Does camouflage actually work against the AI?
mr.g-c replied to BF2_Trooper's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
The honest answer at this time is that NOTHING works "against" the AI currently. They can spot you even at insane distances and way worse, they do spot you behind everything, no matter if hills, trees, houses, vehicles, whatever - they are simply cheating! -
the more AI the lower CPU-Usage
mr.g-c replied to jumpinghubert's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Can you please post it in the dev-heaven A2Commnity-issue Bugtracker? With reference to this thread? -
Well here i have made a Video Sniping with a Ghillie suit from more than 500m distance. Like you can see and hear, after i fired the FIRST ROUND, lying below a bush prone, they still could detect me instantly and firing on me. This is typical for the cheating AI. Then the way they take cover is bugged.... i don't know what to do if you and your team are under sniper fire in RL, but i would clearly not advance through the open field! Then they are going prone in the middle of anywhere and i can shoot one after each other...

ARMA 2 DE 1.01 (final) Impressions - Post ALL Impressions/Videos/Screenies Here

If there is a interest i would be able to make a complete english translation of the 5 page review from Gamestar. -
Indeed it would be nice if there would be some sort of config multiplier. I think its not hard to do at all, especially if you are BIS and can modify the core engine to understand this. I mean it would be also doable with scripting/eventhandler combo - but like Headspace alrady told there is this MP locality issue for created "vehicles".

That is all true what has been posted here in regards to Arma2 ballistics. Air friction and bullet drop is really cool modeled. I don't mind if Wind effects is implemented or not, i rather care about the lack of correct muzzle velocities for different guns. Arma2 like Arma1 uses to put the initspeed (= Muzzle Velocity) inside the magazine-class definition. So you have a Stanag M855 30 Round ball Mag and it is set in Arma2s configs to 900m/sec. But this is simply wrong, because barrel length, twist, etc. has a huge influence on muzzle-velocities in RL and the Muzzle-Velocity has of course a huge influence on range and damage in RL, as much as it would have in-game if proper made. You would wonder how much difference it makes to fire with the same ammo on 500m with an M4 (14,5" barrel) or an M16(20" barrel)..... they will completely different penetrate and wound hit "things", even though fired the same ammo. I read a lot of Iraq/Afghanistan Reviews and people complaining about the lack of wounding and penetration power by their M4 beyond 300m, compared to the M16 which still does good wounding beyond 400m. The Problem here lays when realism Mods like ACE wants to change that, they have to create countless of magazine classes and a script system to euip your with the fitting magazines with the correct Muzzle Velocities defined.

mr.g-c replied to koroush47's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - SUGGESTIONS
Yeahh, well its hard to put my thoughts into english words.... let me try it again. So we simply assume that basic simulation features are today in basically every more-or-less successful 3D game by default (examples are GTA4, Far-Cry, Far-Cry2, Crysis, Stalker, etc.), then those games - and they are only "Shooters/Fungames", not Simulations - set these features as a standard (despite other great thing ahead of Arma2 like Physics). Now when you bring out a game today and call it a "(Ultimate) Military Simulation" and hype the game so much like Arma2 was hyped by the early Videos and Pictures, etc. , you must actually make sure that your product has a bit more than all those "modern standard-features", even the many shooter-games released earlier, have implemented. Now understood? :p (its sound like rubbish, i have a mind blockade today - dunno how to explain it else) Fair point and such, but "To get over it" is easier said than made, mate.... You know when i recall my early life then there were no comparable big disappointments, where i was following the more-or-less whole development process , and later disappointed like with Arma1 and now Arma2. It feels like hit in the face by a 10kg Sledgehammer. And yes i am patient... i was patient with OFP1, i was patient with Arma1 and i will be with Arma2 of course. -
Dunno if the Radio Interview did meant anything to you, but for me it meant much when the lead dev personally confirmed such a feature at that point! To the "mr.butt-hurt", i reported your post ;)

You have a point here of course! When we would assume that a "simulation" has the basic environment stuff like day-night cycles, weather effects, big open world, etc. then i must say that all games i played in the past would have been "Simulations". GTA4, Far-Cry, Far-Cry2, Crysis, Stalker, etc. However i would not dare to call those games "Simulations" at all :p And i think there is the the point when Christian Schneider from Gamestar says "With Simulation/Realism in modern Standards Arma2 has not much in common..." So Modern Standards are that even shooters have those parts of these basic simulation aspects by default, get my point? -

Funny ridiculing remark! How about stay a bit mature with this issue? You marked the wrong word in italic, the "ultimate" is not the problem... the "Simulation" instead is the real problem i see here. Well it would have been nice if there were ANY even slightly obvious and believable physics, but i'm failing to see some. Well no comment here, would be to much truth for some of you here, as it seems.... With your post we can see what happens when closeminded adicted fanboys get confronted with the truth.... Dude seriously for me there is also no other games currently playable than BIS games. But its time to see the truth, Arma2 is not the holy grail many many of people expected it to be, and i fully leave myself out here currently when i tell you this!. To you funny point with the "fcking spoksperson" - in oppposite to you, i can read german and i can read german comments on all review sites.... this is enough for me to recall some 100 rather extremely negative views regarding Arma2. Then there is the community "meter", a "rating" by the community and its on 61%, is that not enough? -

You don't get the point as you have not read my post entirely! Read it again please! I simply was expecting SOME more realism and have been disapointed, but its not about me here - its about the other 1000s of buyers which are now disappointed. And the bashing about the slogan gets in my opinion 90% towards the publisher and anyway, come' on this is 100% justified - the slogan is simply a lie! -
Unfortunately it was one of the big features advertised with back in 2007, however have been scrapped and confirmed to be scrapped in autumn 2008. You can use search function and search for something like "Shoot out of non-gunner positions" or so, there is a big topic about it already. But who knows what the community can do with the "attachTo" script command.

Fact is that no-one asked for a "Professional" military simulation, but if the game manufacturer and/or the publisher claims it on the packaging "The Ultimate Military simulation" you should at least could expect some sort of Realism. Arma2 has none, or not much more than its 9 year old Predecessor OFP1. Fact is also the whole german press laughs about this really ridiculous slogan and the gamestar review even starts with it as the slogan sets the expectations really high! I don't know if i describe this slogan as a "simple lie" is enough to express my and others feelings about it..... A fair and honest one would have been "The ultimate military arcade shooter" - but "simulation" is really 100% missplaced here. -

As much as im a BIS games fan, i disagree here! I played GTA4 on the release Date and it was much much Fun and i never encountered one single Bug i can remember. So there were no gameplay braking things at all! Thats for sure in the case for me and my one Brohter. We played GTA4 even countless hours in LAN game and it was much much fun (especially if you had some beer before :p ) Arma2 is full of Gamplay breaking Bugs! AI heavy bugged, Campaign terribly bugged, MP bugged, performance and engine bugged, etc. Im sorry to say but they completely screwed the german release and the 66% are fully justified! Its even worse bugged than Arma1 was at some spots - at least the campaign i could without problems play in Arma1 with version 1.01 (release-day patch). -

But he is right and he was fooled like the most newbs by the packaging with the slogan "The ultimate Military Simulator". I've marked the important part bold, where i also would assume "Simulator = Realism as Focus". However in Arma2 this is clearly not the case. "The Ultimate Military Game" or "The Ultimate Military Tactical Game would have been much much better and such statements like "Arma2 is about realism, right?" would have not been brought up here and elsewhere so often. -
please scrap the SP before international release
mr.g-c replied to okarr's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
Yes Campaign is extremely bugged, even after 1.01 final. In some famous mission you even can't continue the campaign anymore... Countless of bad Voices in Germany saying the last days, that Arma2 is MORE bugged than Arma1 was. And even though i personally say that its "different" bugged than Arma1, the bugs are as severe as others in Arma1. Conclusion list so far: SP Campaign heavy bugged AI Heavy bugged (part why the Campaign is not working) MP Mode bugged Coop Campaign heavy bugged As i said before, the German release was/is a same debacle as with Arma1 - its screwed completely already! The game never will get more than 70% in the final reviews appearing this Month - and 70% is rather average->bad in todays gaming-press ratings! And this is so extremely sad as the game really has the potential to get a blockbuster! Now Problem comes when they release the game in 1.01 Status International. This will screw the whole thing worldwide i assume unfortunately, at least if the International Press is as perfectionist as the German one is/was. -
Lol yeah, even though half of the forums complained against it already since the first screens ~1 year ago with this stuff appeared, they did not remove it and nor implemented a option to disable it

AI Urban Building/Combat Positioning Script (with Example Mission)

A very nice script!, but why in sqs? Isn't sqf far better performance wise? -
so 25 fps in chernogorsk missions - on normal and very high
mr.g-c replied to garack666's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Can confirm it here also. Is there a ticket about it already in the bugtracker? -
1. Facts are that AI Cheats very much in Arma2, at least their detection mechanism, even though no direct line-of-sight was ever made they still detect others (and player can do it too!). It also goes through buildings/bushes/whatever and especially worse after you fired at shot at them - even on 700m distance with a damn ghillie-suit and a sniper-rifle crouching below a bush, they instantly know where you are! You can argue as much about it as you like - its a fact! 2. AI is not as ridiculously accurate as in Arma1. However keep in Mind that modern 5,xxmm Rifles are pretty accurate and a skilled shooter (= Soldier) should be able to hit you even beyond 200-300m. I say its pretty well optimized in A2 and together with the suppressive fire, it turns out to be great! And i player only with AI set to 1.0 skill (max.) so i think i know what i'm talking about. The issue portrait in this topics very first post is thus non-existent (it was in Arma1 though!)

I think the dynamic destruction system is rather average realized and to be perfectly honest, in this stage i could rather have waived on that system. In intense fights it really breaks immersion that you can destroy parts with normal guns also, as its (i suspect it after observations) entirely hitpoint based. It happened quite often that Tanks/Hmmvee shot parts away after some heavy 50cal fire. Also its quite bugged. Sometimes invisible parts of later-on destruction lvels gettig spawned and you can not move in the buildings anymore or cant shoot out of windows, etc...

I only see a big issue with the release in rest-europe and elsewhere when BIS releases it in 1.01 status to the press (and considering rest-europas press is as perfectionist as our german one = they "care" about AI issues), as the AI is still extremely² buggy! Keyword horrible pathfinding and non-reaction/stucking/whatever which has NOT been fixed with final 1.01.... I was shocked that Even the german Computerbase.de Arma2 Test/Article from yesterday - and computerbase.de is a very very fair magazine - give no buy recommendence for Arma2 (besides for the true fans) since its so terribly buggy and the most buggy part they criticised was again the AI and all its related issues. I really wish you all the best BIS for as much sales as possible after the screwed german-area release, but in this stage i have a bad feeling about it.... AI issues aswell as Singleplayer+MP Major issues fixed and i would say it could get a 85%++ Rating game. I would think about this.... German Major Magazines will hardly give better than 70-75% Ratings, which is sad as its resulting from Bugs alone!.....
