Are you sure about the 'prefetch'?

Lol. Anyway, i have NOTHING against pc gaming, but for me it is a thing of the past. Too much effort, time, wizzardy and cash has to go in, which a.o leaves less time for actual gaming (anyway, i use my pc for making music ... brilliant, so again, i have nothing against multi funtional pc's) And if ArmA2 is pc exclusive i will admit i will bit a bit sad and jealous. As for Killzone2, exclusive on PS3 ... yeah a faint feeling of 'jealousy' is being felt by me:) Yeah, i'm a gamer, i like (good) games but i limit myself to XBOX 360 due to several circumstances ... so in the end ArmA2 has to come to me/360, cause i won't/can't go ArmA2/PC.
-
With all the teaser stuff on ArmA2.com and such coming out, hinting on a imminent (pre-summer 2009) PC release i would very much like to have some sort of confirmation (YES/NO) if ArmA2 will come to 360. Questions: 1. Will BIS go for a simulateneous multi-platform release? (my guess ... NO, cause it seems it is too late for that with no signs of any console stuff) 2. When will something be said about a console release (which console, when rls)? I'm well aware that BIS says 'we cant currently say anything on the subject' ... but when (if ever) CAN you say something on this subject?? It would be handy to know if we (console gamers) have to wait till xmas 2009, 2010, 2011 of forever
-
You mean tothegame.com ? That's totally a guess, not official info. My opinnion is that ArmA2 is not coming for Xbox360 and I'm sticking with it while there's no solid proof to the contrary. Which would a REAL disappointment!!! but i can go along with your line of reasoning, me too i haven't seen one single shred of Arma2/360 evidence:(

Ports are not necessarily the exact same program. Â For instance, some Need For Speed games were parallel developed on the major consoles, plus the Nintendo DS or PS Portable or whatever. Â Obviously, the DS version is not the same program that runs on the PC. Â The PS2 version of Chaos Theory had none of the graphics excellence of the Xbox version, and GRAW was completely different on the consoles. Â The min spec requirements for the TBA 'Next Gen' console version may not be the exact same program as the one we will see on the computer. If i won't be a simultaneous release (and the signs point in that direction with the TBA stuff for console) then probably you are right, and ArmA2 gets the 'Elite' treatment. Couldn't hurt for the quality of the console version , but the wait will be (too?) long:(
-
I thought the 'min' spec would be a $200 Xbox 360 ... i could be wrong though (i am curious what the FIXED 360 spec and ARMA2 with hopefully enough optimisation from BIS results in)

^^ So you expect to make a mission in ArmA2 and thousends of ppl will play YOUR mission??? Dream on;) The reason why ppl don't play your Far Cry 2 MAP (btw a MAP maker, not a mssion maker) is 1. There are thousends of maps already 2. You don't have friends? (don't worry, i have have the same) The Far Cry 2 method is imho THE WAY to publish mission for ArmA2/OFP2 on 360 (in fact, i don't see any other way to do it on 360, cause your usual usb stick solution won't work with a closed system like MS/360)
-
Errmmm? Nothing could be simpler. Just take at look at how Far Cry 2 does that on 360. 1. Make map 2. Publish (to ubi server) 3. Others can download (from ubi server) or even 1. Make map 2. Host map (others have to download to join, and can save map) Plz don't make it more difficult and DONT pretend as if consoles cant do this and only superior pc's can 'handle' this. Mission making AND sharing can be done on 360 (PS3) ... so JUST DO IT! (oh, i made my own crappy ... granted, the mp of fc2 is prtly broken, bt the map making/sharing works fab)(And tbh, i don't care so much for mod making, but mods avail thru DLC would be welcome)
-
A good MISSION editor and a FarCry2 system of sharing/downloading (plz Bis, take note of that sharing system) will already be Fabtastic On mods, well a fully finished quality bug-free mod could be 'handed over' to BIS and go thru certification as DLC ... if paid DLC, some of that money COULD flow back to the mod maker(s) That could work, if all parties were alligned (modmaker, quality, BIS and M$
-
Wasn't this the cause of the 'crises'? (spending money which you didn't have) Anyway, i hope ArmA2 will see the light (on 360 too), and hopefully in 2009 i might add.
-
Well actually i disagree with this, or Codemasters behavior on this. I think its rather BIS right, and hell BIS really should mention it more often when press is there/whenever that "they have made the awesome OFP1" - not codemasters. For the part that they invested more.... well... what they did is: They laid-off the model-work or even more to a company in malaysia, in which the average wages are probably 1/10 or less (speculation) from the ones in their homeland great-britain. Do i need to say more? Â You are too romantic:)
-
No, because of the name CODEMASTERS:) 'From the makers of the very succesful DIRT and GRID games, now comes the ultimate military simulator, the sequel to the million seller OFP ... we present Operation Flashpoint 2' Or something along those lines. With simultaneous release on PC, 360 and PS3, with demo's and stuff to boot and a lot of marketing ... i think you get the picture here:) (otoh, CM needs to sell more, cause i guess they have invested more in developing OFP2 ... and those bills have to be paid ... i think the target should at least be 1 million copies)
-
300k? Hmm not that bad (but still only 20% of what OFP did) Â Perhaps 500k for ArmA2 could be possible (with the other million+ to CM's OFP2?) We'll see. (And to make it clear, i wish both companies the best of luck/sales and i will buy both games ... on 360!!! that is)
-
Where all those million(s) of sold copies of OFP then went? Did BIS and 300 BIS-fans buy them? I just don't understand what is so hard in this? Someone care to explain? OFP wasn't first game which was unknown title but from it's release it "skyrocketed" and earned it's name... And sold quite well too. And it is not last of that kind either. So HOW MANY copies did ArmA sell? Take THAT number and you can have a pretty decent prediction how ArmA2 will sell. Of course consoles could help a bit if the game will be any good (like in FUN, possibly a forbidden word) There is a change that CM's OFP2 will sell a million copies. That game will probably be a bit more 'gamy', will definitely be multiplatform, will have the NAME, a bigger dev team, and the DIRT/GRID engine fame to add to their marketing strategy. Thinking 1 million OFP = 1 million ArmA2 is just much and much too simple (and dangerously romantic)
-
And your point is wrong. You see casual gamers as dumb asses who understands nothing out of your "casual gamer" stereotype. That is pretty elitist view and wrong. How come they still buy and play (and enjoy) those games? GTA is hard as nails to learn to play well, atleast back in days of Liberty City. ArmA's flightmodel is eaaaasy compared to it. Try flying 15 minutes and then crash to ground just before you were to finish that mission. Aaaaaand re-start from start after getting out of from hospital, stealing car and be chased by polices. What is realistically difficult in ArmA??? Sniper AI performing shots which world's elite snipers would not be capable of? Thru darkness without NVGs. Sure wrap in you niece-gamer wrappings. However reality has already proven multiple times that you are wrong. I don't know what you are on about??? ArmA2 will be a small game compared to the CoD or GTA franchise. So, a niche game built by a small dev team. I would really be surprised if masses of 'casual' gamers would pick up ArmA2. Why would they? Even the name Armed Assault doesn't ring any bells for casual gamers arma2 360 on gf If you think that is an elitist view? I just think that it is plain common sense.
-
^^ But i'm 99% that if you throw ArmA2 at a casual gamer he won't like it. A casual gamers simply won't 'understand' a game like ArmA Â (heck they have even trouble to 'understand' a big map like GTA4 or FarCry2 and want a 'fast travel' system) Now try to explain 'ballistics' to a casual gamer, a gamer who is used to laser like shots. Now try to explain that you could be shot by an unseen bullet/enemy after a 15 minute 'walk' without having fired 1 shot Above are just a few simple examples, besides the usual gfx stuff. Trying to sell ArmA2 to casual gamers you should first make sure ArmA2 is a good GAME ... which is a heck of a task if you want to keep the 'difficult' (realistic) bits. Tbh, i don't see that happening and therefor i said that ArmA2 will be a niche game, unnoticed/unwanted by the CoDMW masses.
-
Look, ArmA(2) is a very HARD-CORE game ... Don't try to sell that to casual gamers. Yeah, if you want to sell it to a happy-go-lucky-run-and-gun-cod-console kids you will get these remarks. Nope, sell it to the guys who once played OFP1 and you will have much less 'dumb' reactions. I have played OFP1, on pc. Played Elite on Xbox and am eagerly awaiting ArmA2 on 360. I know what to expect. Sell ArmA2 to me and hopefully to some borderline BF/GR/RS guys who look for something 'a bit' more realistic ... that is your audience. ArmA2 is a niche title, face it. Focus on that, NOT on the zillion Halo (the instant-gratification kind of) kids outthere:)
-
I know (well since demo ofp i guess) OFP is for the most part, a long range affair. In FC2 you can sneak up to a base, get in real close (couple of meters). With mp5 or the silent makarov i aim for the head(ish) part. Although a closeup headshot with the silent makarov means a 1-hit-kill i usually pull twice or triple 'just to make sure' ... The mp5 has some 'spread' so you have to take that into account. And yes, i'm aware those guys wear t-shirts of a special kind, the 'bullet-stopping' kind:) And i'm also aware that the game doesn't have ballistics (at least, not that i've noticed) so i can't say it is very realistic ... but ... The game is real good fun for me, a kinda very nice teaser for what might come in 2009 on a.o. 360 with OFP2 and Arma2
-
So your OFP tactic is to just aim for the head? Â You're suppose to aim for the centre of mass (AKA the torso) with real life weapons. 'Headshots' is just video game BS. My point was saying he is a 'bad shot' in a nice way. Any OFP vet should know they are doing something 'wrong' when you waste 30 bullets on 1 kill. You can adept to the game(rules) or you can bin it and go back to our beloved one and only OFP where you 'aim at the torso' (tip: don't apply ofp rules to Dead Space) Btw, Red Kite, i was wondering about the watch to. It is not in the 360 version (weird because i saw screens of the watch on the net)
-
^^ 30 times to kill somebody? A whole clip? Jeez, i take down most with one headshot with sniper rifle or handgun. Mp5 takes a few, depending on distance because of the burst/spread. Seems all pretty normal to me. Mounted weapons? A few rounds and they go down. Though i hardly use other rifles and machineguns, true i don't like them so much (in the game) (aim for the head in short bursts or better with a single shot weapon ... but why should i even bother to tell this here, in the holy grail of SIMULATION which is OFP?) Anyway, i found Ursa Major in the game (and pointing north, i checked;) Appearantly OFP is not the only game with a 'modelled night sky' Yesterday i went on an assasination mission (INSANE difficulty), take out 2 drugsdealers in 2 locations. It took me 3 darts (2 dealers and 1 sniper on the lookout) to get the job done undetected. Very, very cool game (only the zebra's and impala's knew i was there:)
-
I guess it is like this: PC release Q1 2009 Console release TBD (hopefully 2009, and probably 360 because of Elite dev experience)

I checked the map editor. The thing is a marvel! Plantation Reloaded Trailer Plantation: Plantation Reloaded: More info on www.maxqubit.com/plantation/

thats why i miss civilians.. so that you get the addition to be careful what the hell you shoot at... at about the 5th mission i started going in throwing handgrenades and molotows all around me and just brining chaos to the place... just, quick in, quick out... if there actually where civilians and such there i would be much more careful... also, civilians could be a great resource of information.. the game has a huge potential but just dont go more then halfway for me.. it´s a shame really... Civilians have fled the region (as is explained by the intro), which would seem normal to me, i don't expect civs to 'drink a cup of tea' at some roadblock:) So yeah, the outset is quite simple, but imho FarCry2 is a marvel nonetheless ... So much (working) detail ... ... the engine alone should make other devs quite nervous. For coming ArmA2 and OFP2 i now have a reference to FarCry2 (talking 360 here), it sure raises the bar significantly. To me FC2 is a major step forward in the traditional FPS genre. At heart a simple shooter, but very wel excecuted.

Errr, you play a lone mercenary, in case you didn't know. A guy who kills for money. In trigger happy country. You have some friends but no troops. What is the prob? All these games with US troops stuff this and that is boring as hell anyways. Always playing the so called 'good guys' brrrrrrrrrrr.

Co-op (because it expands on the SP affair ... SP=ME against ... COop=*WE* against;))
