Not bad for a free model really,I see your also messing with the sharp and smooth surfaces, need a bit of work on it but your getting there, and although some parts may be a bit difficult to work with,it will make a worlds difference, heres an example. http://img71.imageshack.us/img71/8647/apachepic0ix.jpg Photo curtousy of NodUnit,he sends me pictures and lets me test some stuff at times.

A large portion of it could be the island, considernig its size is much larger and detailed than that of most if not any game I'v seen, who knows, but I doubt it will be too big in the end,if not,I'm sure the community will be able to make a few gigs obsolete

Ha! BIS didn't include the top stuff in the demo,I was right on the moneh....hmm....interesting idea and yet I don't understand how it would simply make things more smooth, yes I can understand lower graphics but those are tweakable, when somebody plays (yet again) bf2 and they dont have the card to play the highest graphics on it,its their fault if they want to bitch and moan about the inevitable (buy another card if your not happy,if no then use what you got like the rest of us) However not everyone is foolish enough, some play with what they only need and thats good enough for them. This makes me wonder what else BIS is hiding, with textures then obviously they didn't add the missing vehicles and probably only US soldiers were playable (unless they included some kind of editor) as I have yet to see the desert camo SSF (South Sahrani Forces, just a name) in any of the demo images, just developer. As per how things are hard...flying and gunning at the same time if forced to is not hard,it just takes alittle bit of practice and a not so null mind.

If it were known then exactly how would it be the suprise.

Not to mention children playing in a war game,or children in general in a war game alone would raise questions,in terms of realism, blood alone makes a game T rating, adding things like people on fire would make the rating M,I am a bastard and will admit I don't really ever want to see OFP or Armed Assault at the E rating,OFP without blood is like a dog without a bark, its just odd when you shoot people alot of times in these games and they dont show blood, thats one of the reasons I love OFP,as straneg as it sounds.
-
Can't say I'v seen one of those in the images yet,and I basicly horded all of the images released from the earliest to latest.
-
Yup,thats the great thing about the mods,if they do not add it then people can choose to download the effects of watching crews burning to their death,or soldiers being blown to bits by anti tank rifles and tanks themselves,I'm sure you guys remember the one,an effect where,if a person is hit by a strong enough weapon, their body explodes and their skull and a few bones go flying along with a body part or two,and the blood spews out n such, sometimes the bone would get stuck spinning in air,I think it was a leg bone..

:P I'v given a list of the more details that are possibly missed as well as some possible content that MAY be in the game, provided they port over OFP:E's,which I have a strong suspicion they will,it wouldn't make sense to leave it now would it? The list is too long to give right now but its back in a thread called "Facts and speculation" or something of that nature.

Bout time somebody else noticed, though I stated this before,I swear some of you guys just scroll through the post and ignore it. The question is are the reflections showing what is around them or a loaded texture? I'll give an example, yes I must use bf2 once more. Okay so I was staring at the cobra's cockpit glass one day on the carrier and noticed some hills,I looked around and we were in an ocean,ah well. So the next round I take a look at the blackhawks glass while at mashtur city, well I noticed buildings,so I parked it in the desert with nothing but trees and I still saw buildings. I doubt BIS would do that, have a loaded reflection I mean, but if they do then its better than nothing, but I'v got my fingers crossed. But its definatly obvious its a reflection, light in the images I'v seen so far does not bend around the blackhawks glass like that, plus theres the mixture of blue and green, last I saw light only came in the shade of yellowish white and brightened the glass So yes you are correct Bravo 6.

Why? It adds to the feel of the soldier and makes them look more lifelike rather than carrying nothing on their back, the backpack is just a small thing and it won't effect the faces/polies too much, your also forgetting that when done,AA will be optimized,so why are you griping about a backpack? I mean come on.
-
Usually it only converts .tga's into paa's and pac's.
-
Northen forces aren't Russian either, they may have some US stuff, remember they havent been at war and they didnt come to fighting until AA is released.

I presume you are aware that they adjust the shadows according to the weather conditions. In clear skies the shadows are sharp, slight cloud around the sun makes them blurred and 8/8 cloud cover gets rid of shadows all together. Will have another look at the screenies but I think what you saw was mainly due to weather and performance saving shadow reduction (ie. shadows cast on vehicles and other moving objects are only displayed at close range). I am,however that contradicts one of the very images, the one of the two BMP's,soldier and T-72 to be exact, however I noticed something odd in the image as well. However the light pole does not have a smooth shadow. http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/1401/armed053nw.jpg Or whichever kind of pole it is. The image of the two T-72's and the lone BMP-2 at the garage type place,I also noticed something peculiar, the T-72's shadows were smooth but the BMP's wasnt. At the sam time I saw in several images that tree and building shadows were soft but infantry weren't. They may have been messing with shadows and defining them, low graphic shadows vs high graphics, that image above may have some of AA's highest graphics and that would explain it,but that still baffles me as to the garage image, however the shadow from the bush was not present and I remember a bug earlier in images showing shrubbery not casting shadows, other than trees anyway. So if worse come to worse, objects will have soft shadows while others won't,however everything may have soft shadows,I can't say for certain as I do not work for BIS and I don't know what they are doing,I can only speculate and create theory's,but at the same time I try to provide some truth behind the theory's,what good would a theory be if it was simply words and no example.

You forgot the dates before... 2004...late 2005... etc. S.D. Armed Assault has been in production and announced at 2005,it didn't exist in 2004,possibly as a rumor but nothing official. To be honest I don't think the games late or anything, some games take up to three years to make, and then of course I'm sure somebodies going to throw out there "Well EA can pop off games in months" or so...well EA has produced a few good games, but, and I'm sorry for those of you being fans of BF2,but it being the most modern and having the most 'in common' with OFP/Armed Assault,I have no choice. Okay lets take vanilla Battlefield 2,it was done, had several maps, several weapons and three teams, also several vehicles, with a few variations between the two. Now lets take special forces, there were several people issuing complaints that it was more CPU demanding,it had 6 or 7 maps and another set of weapons that could even be played with in vanilla once unlocked. The added things however were generally useless, night vision. Okay in night vision you have somewhat the ability to see in the dark, but even the slightest light on a metal or so would give too much reflection, and night vision in helicopters was near useless, damn dark brownish red.... Then came European uhh..something...a pretty big failure, alot of people said the voice acting was terrible,it added 3 weapons and a few more maps, and one side, then of course armored fury and who knows whats next.. Anyway looking past that, alot of people for some reason like to compare EA to Bohemia, quite an unfair comparing if you ask me,as EA is a worldwide company with a massive amount of staff that are overcharged hours and underpaid for them, while at the same time releasing more and more things while the higher ups screw up the employees trying to be nice, the crash to desktop bf2 bug as an example, thats supposed to be fixed in the next patch. Bohemia is obviously not that,a much much smaller staff taking their time to create more realistic games, yes they don't offer the best graphics such as Crytek or EA,but thats what makes Bohemia special,as they stated and as I'v seen myself, these days everyone is trying to make the next gen GRAPHIC game, focusing usually on only graphics. However Bohemia is moreso wanting gameplay over graphics. They also release a large amount of images,be it beta or not,and why? Well obviously we are heard one way or another and they are trying to please the community by doing so,they don't simply tell us everything that will be in it for a suprise factor probably. And its obvious that their not simply after our money, had that been the case,Armed Assault would have been released long ago. When games are rushed they come out half baked, when food comes out half baked its not so good, same with games,it will be done when its done and thats all there is to it,so asking things "when will it be released?" when you already have leads to such things is pointless. And Placebo said the suprise will have nothing to do with Armed Assault.

Not sure what to tell ya in terms of OFP:E,all I know is what I'v seen and I saw a civlian corpse get stuck on my moving tank and didnt get 'pushed off' until I stopped.
-
Collision was improved at first in for VBS1 (probably) and OFP:E (definatly). In OFP you can stay on a moving vehicle until it stops, then depending on the amount it um...energy or somethin like that, anyway depending on the speed its going, you might move forward and fly off it a bit but while its moving you can stay on it,atleast thats how that civilian corpse worked as my tank frontal ornament till I stopped.

Once again,do not take releases of stuff to a very serious point,I have stated time and again and given evidence that timelines don't make sense,I'm not sure why BIS does this but I'm guessing its for secrecy's sake and to keep us guessing, which I like. It looks great to me but I am slightly confused as to the shadows, their not the same in ever pic and by that I mean sharpness which leads me to believe one of these is later than the rest,or different setting perhaps,I don't know but I'v seen a few images with soft shadows on everything, rare, but they are there. I wonder what the normal map on the T-72 looks like (the sheet) in the images I'v seen such as at the commander hatch and whatnot, the brushed metallic or corroded metal..err...whatever the effect, seems to be pretty complex, sexiest T-72 I'v seen.
-
Hmm...either thats also weather on cloudy, such as rain or they got rid of the mega shine problem we saw in the images released on OFP's recent birthday. As for the texture,I wouldn't worry about that, the video may have been shot afterwards or so,the timelines of BIS's stuff doesn't match up in release as to what we see,so I wouldn't worry too much . Yes the island does look immersive and it looks quite peaceful still,I'm also glad they have the palm trees set to different angles, but I suppose the biggest thing I am curious about is what that vehicle is that we see the camera from...hmm...time for more research I think. After analyzing some of the earliest Armed Assault images,I believe I know what this vehicle is now.

Don't forget to do it on the body too, everything flat should have its face as sharp, such a small change can and will have a huge drastic effect on the way stuff is lit in OFP,I wish more addon makers would use it,as it can make addons look excellent in terms of lighting or odd, take a box in O2 with smooth faces for example, doesn't look right, but with sharp it does, you can also define the sharp and smooth effects via points, such as taking two points of a airplane flap where the back end connects to both, making the points sharp will cause the top and bottom to be lit differently and more accordingly.
-
O2 and OFP is quite picky about its lighting, first when it comes to a face that lets say..a panel, you do not want to joing them together unless it is a transparent texture such as a rotor blur. Also you may need to select the points that make up that face in particular and press U/I again but you stated you did that,in terms of flight models you don't want the flaps to be joined with the body, joining the points on a round body or something of that nature isn't really a problem and should cause none,I can't really say I fully understand the issue as I have never run into it,except for a few case scenerios when I make a new face that the face is smooth,in which case I simply sharpen it and all is well again.

Sorry,I was up late that night and quite in a bitchy mood, won't happen again x.x So what your saying is with DX10 that the grass can be rendered from far distances rather than being rendered as you get within 5 or so feet? Rather curious how that works without eating much CPU power, but as it states its optimized for it...wonder how that works anyway,I suppose theres not much to say int erms of positive ther than we'll just have to wait and see.
-
Oh my gosh don't tell me your thinking thats a real image thats new or something, that image is dated past Dec 05. As for Game2,the images were extrelemy beta if even that, the lighting in the desert area was really high but in the woodland areas it wasn't,we haven't seen anything else of game2 so discusion of its graphics are rather irrelevant. Those images are a year or so old,and please stop with the crytek stuff for crying out loud, their not the same game, they do not have the same goals,if you want crysis go play crysis,if want armed assault go play (when its out) armed assault, but for goodness sake stop with the "omg it no has uber pretty graphics" I'm not saying the one about the forest was related to that however I have seen alot of comments about graphics Graphics are nothin but eyecandy, gameplay is more important, and you forget that even if a game has pretty graphisc, not everyone is going to be able to play them at tops.
-
Multtype BDU's selective while in a mission is a bad idea for a game like OFP,this isn't soldner. You would look like a pretty big fool if you had a BDU different from the rest of your squad, plus it wouldn't be realistic, atleast not for the US Side,I'v heard the Russians sometimes use two types of BDU's in squads, however North Sahrani forces aren't Russians (damnit these typos get me when I least expect it.),in the end it would be a rather useless feature simply for unrealistic customization during anytime.
-
If they include it I doubt they would have it where you get stuck. In terms of becomming "distracted" by destroying a building, that is mostly the players thought, wether or not somebody smart decides to use a building as cover and not give away his/her position as opposed to a fool who destroyed it because they think its "fun",thus blowing their cover and distracting themself,ya can only pamper the gamers for so long,if you pamper them too much, they become idiots.
-
Yeah I had the same problem...my textures looked all smeared and whatnot, but I found on brighter colors it didn't do this for some reason, you might have to change the color.
