    Armed Assault - Self Publish?

Seriously. What's wrong with EA? They can ensure that BIS gets maximum shelf coverage, marketing resources etc. Only reason people bash EA is because they are big and succesful, there's no other good explanation. It's like the unwarranted hate towards Microsoft (which for some reason seems to have lessened by each year). More sold copies = more resources for BIS. Activision would be nice too, they can handle big releases. And why not Microsoft? The Cafepress idea sounds bad to me too. BIS would probably get a bigger distribution if they used hot dog stands . marcus

    Gameplay Improvements

They allready do, dont they? Well, the do get prone but not due to suppression fire. Just as often they charge or do something weird. You can of course use a script to simulate it but from my knowledge the best variant requires the use of disable AI commands (btw, wouldn't including an "enable AI" command be a small thing to code? If the other stuff is too heavy) AI is good at flanking though. BM

Armed Assault - should the name be changed?

They can call it Armed Ass if they want I don't care. The name of this game is the least of my worries. marcus

    Gameplay Improvements

the_shadow describes the dream game . At least some sort of "event" for soldiers going prone when shots are fired nearby. I mean, the animations etc already exists so it would (hopefully) just require some new events or something. I doubt this game will be budget priced so I expect at least some "real" updates as well as newer graphics. Keeping my fingers crossed. bm

    Gameplay Improvements

Why would that be? I can't think of a single fault with that question. It's a simple consumer question which decides whether purchasing is worthwhile. Browsing through the 4 pages I don't see it asked yet either. If graphics updates is all there is to it then I'll simply wait for game no 2. I never thought OFP as a game for graphics fantasts but rather for those who wanted realistic infantry/combined arms maneuvers simulated. If both then nice but i prefer the last one. The one thing that made me hopeful was that they said updates were expected from the "pro version" of OFP. I never played that, but I sort of expected that version to have better use of tactics from AI. I doubt Human Waves ala USSR anno 1940 style tactics is used by any real army . Btw, if asking questions is so sensitive then I'd suggest putting the entire forum on hold until important parts are worked out. New users might be scared when they see an entire forum with only locked threads. marcus
  6. Trigonometry was never my strongest suite. Is there a(or some) good script snippet/s for creating random road blocks and stuff for villages? I don't mean anything complex as those mapfact scripts but simple stuff to distribute sandbags, some wires and perhaps a mg nest or two. Just creating random stuff would be no problem for me but to make them actually look organized would be more challenged. Maybe using a trigger radius as a starting point? (in order to adapt them to different sizes of villages) I'm thinking of modifying a dynamic campaign with this. Thanks in advance BM

I tried to put it in as plain English as I could but you refuse to listen. In other sports contract is not an ISSUE when it comes to international competitions. They are obliged to take part. And I've got info for you. Watching sports on TV with a six pack doesn't make you an expert on a sport. Having actually played it makes a difference. I've tried most sports at least once. And yes I know the rules of hockey perfectly well. And yes I have the right to issue opinions of the state of hockey and the players with their greed destroying a sport I actually happen to like. Nevermind their choice of equipment(since that apparently is important to you). I also enjoy boxing as well, with the only equipment being a pair of gloves and shorts . Can I make my statement more plainer? You can choose to disagree but no need to insult. marcus

It's a question of scale so i am impressed. This is just the beginning of it all . I think the Japanese are onto something similar. Soon we'll have Terminator for real . marcus

No I'm drawn to sports where they act as sportsmen (ie loyal to their country). Whether they wear spandex, armor or are naked doesn't matter. It's acting like a true athlete that coutns. Like football and rugby players for instance who also happens to have contract with their clubs, but they also remember that they are citiziens of a country. You are forgetting my key statement here. The country (in this case USA) participates in a championship, it doesn't matter if it's a boring one or a crap competition. It is still the nation participating. Then imho it should be a matter of honour for clubs/players to do that too if they are the least patriotic, it's about defending your nations honour(unless you are flag burning type) and that is not a payment or contract issue you can neglect. If it means you compete in spandex then that's what you should do. It's a bit like soldiers saying "Nah I don't like this war in country X, i'd rather go to Fiji and fight". You wont hear a true soldier say something like that. You may have noticed that I criticise hockey players and not hockey as a sport. The lockout should continue for awhile more and then they will learn more about sportsmanship. You are probably right that maybe this competition is too often or too "unserious" or whatever, then they should change that but until they do they still participate as it is. You also misunderstood the thing about popularity, i don't give a flying f about tv ratings. I talk about the sport getting new talent and more players. In order to achieve that you need to make the sport attract new people. BM

Wasn't gunner the most dangerous position in those? Or am I thinking of the B-17? I'm not an expert on these planes so I don't know whether they had that "glass bubble" on both types. BM

    Ofp...dead?

I think that graph should be more "bumpy" myself . I mean, my interest has gone up and down and up again since 2002 or so(when i first got it), even bought the game twice. No game holds a constant interest due to other games popping up now and then. I'm sure the interest will soar when OFP2 comes out. Hopefully even more with all the addons already made which will only add to the interest. Stuff like I44 etc. marcus

First of all, the players are LOCKED OUT. Its not a strike. Second of all, you are calling hockey players "prima donnas"? Obviously you never played the game, to say they are inferior athletes to runners, and skiers is just ludicous. With the exeption of Football players ( North American ), they are quite likely the toughest athletes on the planet. I'd also have to add Rugby, and Lacrosse players too. Also  tough athletic breeds. How many athletes do you see get their faces stiched up, on the bench?? Or get their teeth knocked out, and don't miss a shift. Prima Donnas, give it up. And thirdly, only NHL players that are NOT in the playoffs are eligable to play in the tournement. They don't have a choice. They play for their NHL team, and for the Stanley Cup, which means alot more to them . Besides, the Olympics, and the World Cup are superior tournements anyway. And who gives a crap if Hockey is not growing in popularity. It is for the people who understand it, and have had the balls to put on a pair of skates and PLAY the game. If you never played it, you won't get it. You won't understand what sacrifice, heart and disipline is. Would you dive in front of a puck risking injury, even to your unprotected face?? Many players do. Why? to win the Stanley Cup. Have you ever jumped from a 90 meter cliff with skiis? So let's not "jump" to conclusions here, you could actually die for real if you fail badly . And Rugby is way way tougher than Hockey. Not only that but all those answer when the nation calls for them. They don't first ask themselves "What can the country do for me" but rather "What can I do for the country". This is what makes them real atheletes and Hockey Players mere Circus actors in my book. Who also happens to have their teeth broken now and then ;). Lastly. Football(soccer) players also makes loads of money. Yet they wont hesistate when the nation calls for their services. No bs like "my club needs me". This is what real athletes/sportsmen does, they pull their weight for the big team, namelly the country. So I don't know exactly how those hockey players "sacrifice" themselves, other than crying and whining when they dont get that extra buck. Not even boxers are that whiny. Btw, I think most in this country has tried hockey at least once or at least Bandy . It's still not as tough as Rugby(which also isn't particulary big here) marcus

    VE Day

Actually, Israel first became a nation in 1312 B.C.E. As far as my family goes, my dad's brother was a saboteur during the German occupation in Denmark, he was ultimately caught and sent to a concentration camp. Neuengamme it was called. My dad's  sister's husband was also sent to a concentration camp, not sure if it was the same one. He had apparently been storing some weapons for the resistance in his summerhouse. The story is pretty unclear, but that was what I could get out of my dad. But was this flag(in your sig) even set in stone at that time? (45) that is. I'm fully aware of the jewish volunteers fighting for the allies. One could argue about "nation" though since proper nations didn't really exist until age of nationalism. marcus

My grandfather (and of course others) served in the homefront as AA man in Finland, he was mainly active in the Civil War so I'm aware of those wars . One could of course also wonder about the inclusion of Israel, a nation that didn't exist until 48. BM

Just one question about that poster (way up). Wasn't Finland techincally on the wrong side of the war? Just curious about the choice of flags on that poster. Same with Sweden, what part did they play really? (minus volunteers on either side) I mean just for coherence. There's obviously no Italian or German flag in that poster . marcus

    World Hockey Championships

Sorry, didn't mean to jump on you . It was more criticism of the hockey players. They are more like primadonnas in a circus than real athletes. Thankfull there's allways "real" winter athletes to watch such as ski jumping and downhill . BM

    World Hockey Championships

So what you are saying is that unlike swimmers, skiiers, runners and other "real sports men" hockey players have other priorities rather than defending their nations colors each year? Let's hope the strike continues then so they can learn that . I think this short sightedness is doing little to promote hockey as a world sport. BM

But that's why it should be put eariler as not to crash against those. It's about a nations honour after all. Who could not be interested in that? BM

It's not so bad when you think of it. Saves some time and makes the mission flow faster. If not else to avoid the (sometimes) endless maneuvers for AI to get on the right track. BM

    Dynamic World War II

You could consider "cheating" a bit like I did in my little mod. IE just put the thing in air with the guys inside . If you think of it, that's basically what happens in the extract action. bm

    Dynamic World War II

Well. It's still good to see people churning out more variants on this powerful concept. Two thumbs up for the effort Winters. I am myself working on modifying it for a UKF/Woodland type of setting but i doubt it will ever be good enough for public consumption . This is exactly what OFP needs to keep up the flame until OFP2. bm

    World Hockey Championships

Even if I watch. I could never understand why they had to put it that late in the season. I mean it's spring(almost summer) outside. I have already put the hockey season behind me(thank you VFHC for the gold). Now it's football(soccer) all the way in my mindset. Hockey World Championships should be in eg. February when it's still winter. Any good reason why it's so late? I'm assuming that US/Canada too is more focused on other sports this time of the year. (btw I know it's normally NHL playoffs now but would it kill them to have a 1 week pause for this?) bm

    Dynamic Campaigns

Hellfish, what i did was basically a variant of the existing script. I simply blacked out and put everyone in the Hercules(the only plane i have), the plane in air, flying at a set velocity. Maybe less immersive than the actual take-off but i thought it sort of fit well with the "quick to action" feeling that the existing scripts had (now thinking of the Afghan scenario). The only drawback was that it looked a bit ridicilous with 12 guys in a Hercules . Maybe if i figure out a good platoon command thing (or Honcho and his guys does it of course). Honcho, Thanx for the tips. Got a good one from the scripting forum too. These two combined will do nicelly, didn't want anything too fancy(like the powerful mapfact ones). I also want to thank these teams for bringing OFP to a new level. These missions exceed most addons in usefulness imho. marcus
