Yeah, I never said you wouldn't use existing addons, but when you put up the list of the projects I never saw before that you said you would try to use existing works. And I understand that you would want the textures to be matching. I'm glad Semper Fidelis Studios is making headway, the progress although spaced is justified as you're the only modeler compared to the past attempts at other mods which never really showed any work to back up their existence, rather just got a lot of people worked up and asking what was going on.
-
@FischKopp Just a suggestion, I know this wouldn't exactly relieve a lot of pressure on you for the projects you're trying to undertake, but perhaps if you were to not pursue the UH-1N/Y Iroquois as Prep. H has done several versions already and if someone else were to try and convert the already existing V-22 Osprey addon (complete and edit) maybe that would make for a faster and easier USMC air addon process?

@manhunter09 Those are some really great shots. What island did you use for that and are you using the dxll mod? That last one looks very realistic, I take it the Whiskey in the second picture is NXShadows?

Pretty much adding to what Ranger44 and Bobcatt666 have said, to all those who have just started posting and are already demanding(?) addon makers to create units that have already been done before, while they are still in the process of upgrading their previous work for the benefit of the community I have listed several examples of units already done that have been requested by several newcomers to the forums. Â Just a little note to those who nag (not ask politey, but yes nag), but do not create a single contribution...don't. *1st SFOD-D/Rangers 1990's era: Laser's 1993 Delta/Ranger pack* Rangers: http://www.atwar.net/download.php?view.2845 Deltas: http://www.atwar.net/download.php?view.2846 *75th Regiment 2nd. Battalion Rangers: Â Hyk's 1.53 (1990 era Rangers are included in that pack)* Hyk 1.53 US Infantry: http://www.atwar.net/download.php?view.4533 *And I'm probably missing several addons as well, but these were just examples of works that already exist. What I do not get is people who are picky in requesting an addon that doesn't have the "Hyk" camo texture or something like that. Â Unless you're doing something productive like helping make the addon, beta testing or whatever I would see where that suggestion would be helpful. Â But when you're just doing it in proposing for an addon while several others exist out there if you just look on ATWAR, CZ, Org., etc then that's just not productive. Â As for the USMC units (I'm guessing non-MARPAT) you'll just have to wait till someone at either the Semper Fidelis studio comes with some, but honestly there are several different kinds between E&S, Wilco's, and Cpt. Frostbite's NBC units. Â Instead of trying to propose new ideas (and quite frankly redundant ones sometimes) which would only slow down the current projects at hand, wouldn't it make sense to appreciate the ones available and do everything in our power not to delay the ones that are in production.

Marine408 has a point about the American media and their habit for churning out crap, but then go figure in the 1980's we had John Rambo effectively mowing down those VC in a swift move all by himself. Whenever the topic of Special Forces comes to mind and which group is "better" it seems to me there is no way to "compare" who is better or more elite. The very type of operations these proffessionals carry out and the amount of work that is involved is probably beyond a lot of our comprehension. It may just be me, but I don't think anyone in the world with all their knowledge of facts from books can say in words one group is "better" than the other. I believe the US' SOCOM (SFOD-D, SFG, SEALs, MEU SOC, etc), UK's SF SAS, AU's SASR, Pol's GROM, Canada's JTF-2, etc are all in a league of elite. Besides how in any way is would someone guage who is better or more elite (through training, various operations capable, etc)? All of these operators from numerous nations train constantly to ready themselves, unless we were in a world where everyone only trained and operated for X amount of days I personally don't think using the words "better" or "more elite" is an intelligent approach when looking at any special forces.

dabitup I don't know if you had checked out Fischkopp's original HUMMV pack, but that specific version with the canvas cover is included in his Woodland pack which is either at ATWAR or CZ. Just thought I'd mention it if you wanted to use something immediately.

I think what I ment to say that there was more of recommendations that other variations should be made rather than thanks when the first addon came out. Before the criticisms came out many people were asking gunship variations, this and that. I agree criticism is needed as well, obviously for an addon to improve and healthy constructive criticism. Miles Teg I didn't mean to strike a chord with you, rather whenever I say something as I first posted it's rather to cover a group, not one person so hopefully no offense was taken. When I first saw the UH-1N addon I was surprised and happy since no previously visible mention of the project was widely covered or announced. So when it first came out I was too busy playing with it to notice the fixes needed, and certainly the first thought into my head was not which other versions need to be be made, but rather busy in my world using the addon. Again no offense or criticism of any one individual. It's just that since seeing all the addons coming out, a lot of times I've seen some real unappreciative members voicing their opinion on a certain project, again not referring to this particular one. Thanks

Looking at the first several posts and pages of this thread I was surprised to see more criticism for this helicopter then praises. True scaling, shadows, etc should be revised/fixed, and other versions can be made but I remember when people were begging NXShadows to finish and release his USMC UH-1N. As SgtEversman said it's been 2 years something for someone to make this. I'm not here to kiss ass, rather give appreciation. Sure there are some things that could be fixed, but I had no part in making or helping of this unit therefore I think people should express more gratitude than their criticism...that is unless they themselves can come out with something better. I guess what I'm looking for is more of a compromise, voice your criticism or recommendations if you want but be sure to thank the addon maker. Obviously I'm aware there were only a few who this applies to, as mostly everyone is grateful. And on the note of USMC I'm sure we all will see some eye openers when Fischkopp has more free time. So PrepH's Huey should have some company in the skies in the near future.

Extraction those are some awesome units! I just have one request, as I'm sure some people and possibly including yourself might want to use custom faces. From using the units I saw that even with the stock BIS faces the facial hair sometimes looks a bit odd. Would it be possible to have it so if someone does want to have that on their unit to make it something you enter via the init field? But again those are some awesome units, that camera really does add a whole new look to it! Thanks
-
Ok, just looking at the pictures I don't care what direction you guys go in. Those last two pictures were great. Call me just excited, but I don't think those units need improvement!
-
Hey Dave, was just curious from looking at all the awesome pictures were you guys thinking about focusing your Mod to strictly a woodland situation? I just ask because your previous start of addons were purely focusing on a desert conflict. Don't get me wrong, either way I don't care or am in no way nitpicking, but was just curious as all the new units were in MARPAT WD or regular woodland. Plus finally there's a facepack that looks something straight out of reality, the shadows on the sharpshooter look awesome. Thanks

Baseball caps sound good. Â They make any of the units so far look like CIA or US SF, or possibly Blackwater. Â As all of you are aware you'll see a lot of operators and contractors both military, federal and private wearing civilian casuals. Â Great job Extraction
-
Awesome units, great addition to the SF units you're doing. Â Extraction are these supposed to be the CIA's SAD? Â Also just out of curiousity on a purely superficial perspective, I take it not all the operators both military and CIA alike will have facial hair. Â Kind of like the random cigar script you're having, so not that every single unit will look similar. Â Thanks
-
I'm guessing there is no one from RHS, COMBAT!, etc or Inquistor who is able to help complete the scripting necessary to finish these addons?
-
Thank you! philcommando this helo addon is awesome! I was dosing off finishing up a paper for finals at 1:33am, but now I'm up and awake! Thanks!
-
Could you tell me how to edit the config in order to combine them? I'd appreciate that very much, thank you

I'm not sure whether or not to put this question in this thread or the Y2K3 as it pertains to both. Is there any way the FlashFX mod could be used at the same time with the Y2K3 mod? Thanks
-
@ruff Yea Laser had mentioned earlier that he was going to have some units with the caps facing forward. I was actually the one who asked that exact question about a month ago I think.

Kaitnieks, as Marine408 has just stated don't make statements until you've clarified what is/isn't true. It was Shadows choice to depart from the mod, for his reasons, those are his own. This mod simply does not reject qualified people on a whim, especially when they have been proven by merit. I don't accept your words as being credible as if you really had talked to both individuals who you have claimed to have had conversation with, you would have never written this post. Not that the number of posts always qualifies as you knowing more than others, but at least it does state how long you've been on the forums. Judging by your authoritive amount of 11 posts I wouldn't suddenly jump to making conclusions when you have yet to gather all the facts, not to mention talking to enough people on the subject. On a lighter note, you're right I won't mind your post as I won't give it any further thought.

Awesome screens Extraction.  Just one question, very trival in respect to appearance.  For any of the units with ball cap hats, is there any chance you could have them facing forward?  Attached in the link is of a AFSOC operator, noting the full 3DES bdu and chest rig setup.  I know the operator in the first picture is not Army SF, but I'm sure you've seen plenty of pictures of those guys wearing it foward, along with their sunglasses. Your screens are very detailed in having them represent those SFG units working in tandem with local forces.  I noticed that indigenous Afghan hat on one of the units, wearing full civilian clothes.  Thanks http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-10/865737/afsoc1.JPG http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2004-10/865737/sf2.JPG

@Heatseeker Yeah, it's going to require a lot of work on the part of namely Fischkopp, Marine408, and others doing the modeling and textures. As Fischkopp stated this will in fact be a full conversion with new OPFOR units and weapons and so forth. That's why it is CRUCIAL anyone with animation, modeling, and texturing skills to contact Fischkopp, or myself as Marine408's Internet connection is currently having problems. I'm in contact with Marine408 so I can relay information to him. I can't speak for certainty as I'm not doing either the modeling or texturing for the OPFOR units, but most likely the hostile opposition will be that of fictious origins, so as to be universal in the theater of combat. But I'd have to check with Fischkopp and Marine408 to be certain. In any case anyone with the previously mentioned talents should contact Fischkopp or any other members of the USMC Mod to make things go faster. Thanks

Judging from the pictures I could be wrong, but are you using Laser's original version of the 3DES camo pattern on your AFSOC PJ. The reason why I ask this is because the texture looks very dark for a desert camo scheme, Laser's Rangers with the second (lighter) texture of the 3DES would be more accurate and ultimately would match up. Just a suggestion. Thanks
-
I was looking through there, but they mostly only had CCT. There are one or two pictures of PJs, but in one it's only a shot of his head and neck, the other is too distant to get detail for textures or to see exactly what his loadout is. Probably best to search on Google.

This is from a Hot Toys (similar to 12" DML (Dragon) figure (USAF PJ) .
