Ok. So If I own a regular CD version of ARMA 2 - Not patched yet with the latest 1.7 -
I plan to go buy OA this weekend from Best Buy - Do all I need to do is install OA and patch it to 1.52 (and this will automatically patch my ARAM 2 to 1.7).
Also, is there TWO seperate exe files to launch each gave from?? -- Does
-
Do this SEAL Pack work with OA??

Thanks for the information - Much apprecaited!

I am somewhat new to the ARMA2 gaming world - I currently have ARMA 2 up and running (realtively fine on my system). I am patched to 1.05.
I have never seen a game though so complicated and confusing about either updating to a new patch or adding an "ad-on / expansion" basically (speaking about OA).
My questions (and I've read through this forum multiple times) but I've just never seen a game have so many varying results when adding a simple patch.......or when adding an expansion pack (more or less, of which OA is).... So many posts about vary performance when upgrading to either 1.07 or OA.
1. If I bought ARMA 2 from a US Outlet (best buy) can I simply go purchase OA and install it? Will it automatically be compatible and simply run?
2. Does installing OA automatically update ARMA 2 to patch 1.07
3. If you play SP (not online) is patch 1.07 worth it?
4. Would it be best to simply wait 90 days to purcahse OA?

That's a known issue since v1.0, unfortunately not fixed yet.Ok. No big deal then... Thanks..... I didn't know if I had a corrupt DL or a video card issue. Thanks again...

All of a sudden I'm noticing headless men, when I'm scoping in on some guys. Mainly "insurgent" class. Then will go from having heads...to no heads...to having heads again...(depending on range). Sometmes their pants will change colors as well...
This is a new thing...hasn't happened numerous times playing the same scenarios....yet is happening all of a sudden...

I am likewise very disappointed to hear that OA won't have AI using buildings (inside). At the same time, without changing the feel of how ARMA plays I'm not sure it really matters.......
Just because ARMA doesn't have the right "feel" (for lack of a better term) for CQC.....I don't know excatly what it is....but it certainly doesn't playout like RVS (in CQC) which is fine, in that RVS is likely the best CQC "realistic feel" FPS put out.......But ARAM also seems to lack even the CQC gameplay of OGR even...... I don't know if it is the interface or fluid-ness or exactly what....but ARAM just doesn't feel right when up close in a fight.... The speed or something is lacking.....
But damn...if ARAM could figure that out.....This game/sim would be amazing..

Does changing "precision enemy" effect both single player as well as multiplayer..... I'm a SP only at the moment.....>Just curious as to how this would effect for me, playing only SP.
I adjust currently the sliding bar that is assoicated with "skill level" when making missions.....I'm just wondering how much more things could be tweaked if I decided to adjust "precision enemy / friendly"...

I"m getting decent performance so far with ARMA 2 - My system is the following -
Dell XPS 720 System
2 Quad CPU
Q6600 @ 2.40 GHz
3.00 GB or RAM
GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB
Question..... Regarding "pre-rendered frames"....what would be a good place for my system to be at? I think I currently have them set to "4".
Also, what is a good visibility distance for my system? I think I'm currently at 1200 - Does that seem about right??
I play on screen reso is set lower.....like 1280 x 960 (I believe). Looking for anyways to keep my FPS up (while making things as clear as possibly, of course....so not to have a headache after playing for more than 40 mins).
Thanks for any help.....

I think with how ARAM 2 plays....in the case of Hostage Rescue Operations....the Close Quarters Combat and team control is just handled too poorly to allow for this...... It is not in the realm of R6/RVS (originals) with regard to CQC....

Do I understand this right?You play on profi and tell us it is too hard?
Damned yes it is, profi setting is for people that want it harder as life.
the more experienced ArmaII player tones down accuracy of enemy and own A.I. to levels around 0.450000 while setting skill to 0.85-1.0
with these custom settings in the user.cfg you should be fine.
skillFriendly=1.0000000;
skillEnemy=0.8500000;
precisionFriendly=0.5500000;
precisionEnemy=0.4500000;
you played on this setting:
skillFriendly=1.0000000;
skillEnemy=1.0000000;
precisionFriendly=1.000000;
precisionEnemy=1.000000;
This means you played vs. a world full of Robocops and Westworld adroids.
Human players wont be a challenge to you from now on.
Congratulations!
I know the sliding bar that allows you to adjust "skill' ratings..... Where is the place where one can adjust the "precisionenemy" ratings??

I find them switching to their pistols.....after you try and switch them from one formation to another. If I start out in a Diamond Formation all goes well...... Though if half way through I send one member of the team off to a location by himself to provide cover... while telling the the rest of my fireteam to switch to a "V" formation and move......it is in times / switches like these that all over a sudden they have their pistols out and usually #2 will repeat himself over and over and "move, I'll cover"....
Whatever the deal is.... This is basic infantry tactics that BIS has to get fixed.
-
it just happened for me again and i dont get how this cant be fixed...:mad:i mean this bug is around long enough and discussed also. you dont have to mention that its gamebreaking. i expect that to be fixed finally in arrowhead...lets see..
Agreed. Just had this happen to me and it is frustrating as hell. How the hell can this still be a bug within ARMA2...going on years now. This is basic infantry tactics.....
It does seem to happen...when you split a member off from your fire team....and give seperate orders (to the larger remaining squad). It makes no sense....
-
ok....so do I use the ()?
Would it be written just like this
! (alive HVT_Security)
Is that it? Where "HVT_Security" is the units name..
-
I am looking to create a situation that once a guy / security element is KIA, it sets a trigger off where an HVT at that point to try to escape / evade.
I just don't know enough about scripting to do this yet.
I belive using the script
!alive unit "X"
(may possibly be right). But could someone walk me through it a little better.
What I'm going to do is have the trigger (of unit X being killed) sync with a move order on an HVT (who will be back at base camp). His security element being killed will be his first ring of defense that lets him know he should get moving...
-
I belive you just have to add this to the INIT code.... It has allowed me to keep my tactical airstrike abilities....while at the same time stopping any seconadry missions being requested / asked for..
this setVariable ["settings", [[], true, nil, nil, false]];
-
I still find calling in a "tactical airstrike" (via this method above using the SecOps) both very easy...while at the same time frustrating.....in that while you can call it up and get a confirmation......I can't figure out how to place / pick the spot I want the aircraft to "bomb" (there seems to be no ryme or reason to when I'm given the tactical crosshairs to assign where to point to).
-
I've noticed....If you just give the Helicopter a "GET OUT" order...They will it seems 90% land and get out (secure the area).... Just give them a 10 second WP order....Then a return "Get in" order.... Sync that with your infantry unit....and they will come in hard....set it down.....and then takeoff again once you are boarded....
-
Why do AI controled Helicopters that are transporting AI infantry keep their lights on when flying at night?? How can I turn them off..... Kills the immersion factor (let alone gives them away) to my QRF elements...
Now, the helicopter I fly in on at the start of the mission...never has its lights on......but any of the other AI helo's...flying in AI infantry do??

Why ARMA 2 isn't more popular....
I think it comes down to what I've been starting to think / realize lately....ARMA doesn't do anything "great" enough. As a tactical CQC shooter if falls way short...(hell, there aren't really any inside bldg enviroments an the AI doesn't allow for it)...and on the other side, for a larger scale operations involving Mech as well as Infantry sims such as CMSF do a much better and realistic job....
What ARMA2 does offer, fantastically better than any other SIM out there is mod-ability.
The user interface for small scale infantry tactics (especially with multiple fire Teams) is also terribly cumbersome.
-
A small campaign based loosely on the movie from the 80's that I think was called "Navy Seals" would be awesome. The movie starred Charlie Sheen and wasn't perfect but the military part would make for some good missions imo.These type missions don't work well with ARMA2 - Inside buildings, CQC, that is more of the R6/RS days....(though hopefully GRound BRanch willl come out next year and be the first true , tactical FPS to replace R6/RS)...
I think ARMA is better suited for outside (obviously) long range engagements. Or small unit sniper / Recon type operations (from an Infantry perspective).

This is a known bug. Its not that they are gangsters its just that the players character doesn't have the Headgear. This can be fixed using the setIdentity command but I don't know how.Ok.....Hopefully someone will know how..

After some play testing last night.....
I think the best option (until BIS updates the players interface for commanding mulitple fire teams in a useful and effiicent way).....Is to set a trigger (radio alpha or bravo) linked to a move order for a QRF Helicopter.
(prior to that, have your QRF infantry unit with a "get in" WP...Sync with a "load" WP for the helicopter... (the move helicopter WP, should be the second WP for the helicopter.....which is the one sync'ed with the Trigger).
Make the lead element of your QRF "playable"......and thus once the QRF lands in your general area...you can take over from there and get them at least into the fight and placed in a general zone which should be helpful and putting rounds down on enemy targets...(until there is time for you all to evac).
Of course this is somewhat cumbersome having to switch back from your main unit to the lead of the QRF....but it can work..
Just want to say: Thank You BIS!

Is the SECOPS mission a stand alone single player mission?...or is it part of the campagin?....I haven't bought OA yet...plan to this weekend..
