  1. True to a point. I upgraded to 290X from a Nvidia GTX760. I get double the framerate in other games with 290X compared to GTX760, in Arma 3 I get the exact same FPS. A 2 gig VRAM card released in the last 4 years should do it graphicswise. Rest is down to CPU.
  2. From my testing with AMD FX-8350, overcloking it from 4 Ghz to 4.8 Ghz, I gain maybe 5 FPS. Local multiplayer scenario. The fact that I use client and server on same machine nets me another 5 fps compared to only running the mission in singleplayer. I've tried adding a HC too but that requires more than 8 gigs of RAM. I only have 8 gigs so running the HC means the game puts additional 2 gigs on pagefile. Game gets really slow and bad dips, we are talking dips to 3 fps when theres action. Normal FPS at start of mission with 150 stationary AI (mostly, AA, mortar etc, maybe 50 units moving): 40-50 FPS At a total of 200 units it's down to 30 FPS At a grand total of 300-350 units, I'm getting 10-20 fps, depending on the level of action. I have planes coming in to bomb the place etc. The mission is staged at Kavala and I feel it becomes like finding a needle in haystack as infantry if theres any less than 100 enemy infantry in town. So yes, I'm getting real poor performance at mission start but the gameplay when theres 150 enemy units left is what I like. You could say, why don't you just put down 150 units? Because they would be 100 or 80 in a matter of minutes, which would be really boring (needle in a haystack, again). Now, to settings. I feel Arma 3 suffers from the same thing OFP did with it's Transform & Lighting (Pixel and vertex shaders, it was new back then). Don't go crazy with it, set to low or turn off. Otherwise I experience mouse input lag and aiming becomes impossible. Was like that in OFP, is still like that in Arma 3. Rest of the settings I think others have covered. Objects Standard, 2km draw distance, Shadows high, Textures whatever you like, particles and clouds low, PIP low or off. Vsync always off unless you want even more input lag. I have an AMD 290X and it's sleeping half the time. It can go up to 1070 Mhz but it rarely goes over 600 Mhz. So yeah, big bad bottleneck in the CPU. From what I gather, an i5 would net me maybe 3 fps more. Still doesn't make the game playable. I have 1000 hours in Arma 3 but most of it is from mucking about in the editor, trying scripts, mods etc in various missions. I used to be an online player, Arma 3 killed that for me. Various issues, like pisspoor performance, systems I don't like, like Sway and fatigue. I would never pay for those features but I would pay to have those removed! Non-existant injury system (pretty much), poor physics when it comes to driving anything with wheels. Can we please have a motorbike that isn't used in the circus? It rolls over at every bump in the terrain. Ragdolls that just look stupid, dead enemies rattling all over the place. The list just goes on and on. Still an early access game and mostly nothings been fixed of the original issues. Yes, I'm annoyed.

    Soldier protection (dev branch)

I don't play against unarmored targets. Every soldier has armor on by default. Gameplay should reflect that. Both sides have weapons with 5.56 ammo AFAIK. I'm actually not sure, I always use VAS for my loadouts. I would use MK20, TRG etc but they are peashooters. It's like running into a war with a grenade only. OFP was more realistic. You shot someone in the leg, they couldn't walk, shot an arm, they couldn't aim properly, player or AI. I would like to think games evolve instead of take 2 steps backwards. It's like a car game having rubber tires in its first incarnation but the 2015 version went back to using wooden tires.
  4. How much RAM do you have? How much VRAM do you have? How big is your Pagefile? Looks like it's not loading stuff.

    Soldier protection (dev branch)

I see the problem from the other direction. There is no point using any gun with 5.56mm ammo. You will have to empty a clip to kill anyone. Unless you have an aimbot. Coupled with the fact that bullets are shed off like a bee bumping into AI, it doesn't bring realistic gameplay. Even if I shoot them in the upperbody, they just keep firing back and usually end up killing me. So to avoid that, having my gun in automatic mode becomes a necessity cause then I have a shot at hitting AI enough times to actually kill them. Unless I'm using 7.62mm or bigger bullets (sniper rifles).
  6. Yes, AI are fokken stooped. Basic functionality not implemented. Only thing I know that might help is this, haven't tried yet. http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=27874
  7. I've had numerous crashes too, memory errors because of allocator. I've tried all of them in the DLL folder, they all have issues of some kind. Poor performance, using too much memory compared to other allocators etc. The beta/dev branch allocator that is floating around here somewhere fixes most of the crashes but not all. Arma 3 still crashes, usually within an hour. Maybe not in MP but I don't play MP, just don't like the new "systems" like fatigue and sway. Gamey crap. Why not have us punch 4 random characters within a second for the gun to fire? Forget I said that, BIS will probably take it seriously and implement it.

Low CPU utilization & Low FPS

Yes but you are asking for the impossible. RAM can't process shit. Even when you load textures to memory, CPU is involved in facilitating that. They could free up more resources from CPU so GPU wasn't bottlenecked all the time but that could mean simplifying the simulation and AI. But if they could they would have done that in OFP, a game that STILL don't run at stable 60 fps with current hardware (that's how bad it is). I think the problem is the engine designers and coders. They don't know what they are doing. Ex-Mafia and Hidden & Dangerous devs in the studio too, those games are notorious for running poorly. If you played those games at launch, you would know exactly how poor they run. At this point I feel it's like asking the Lada manufacturer to make a Ferrari. Ain't gonna happen.

Low CPU utilization & Low FPS

You can't have the whole island and all the assets in RAM so more RAM used doesn't solve anything, the game will have to stream from HDD eventually. And that only affects hitching. Not the overall performance. When I play, I use Client, Server and HC. To get decent performance. But...Arma uses up 7 gigs of RAM and starts chugging cause it writes 2 gigs or so to pagefile as well. It never uses my 8 gigs, seems to be a limit at 7 or it's the hack that goes around it. Just Client + Server uses 5.5 - 6 gigs total (including whatever Windows uses). The problems with the engine are numerous and have been pointed out numerous times.

Problem texture or lights at night

If Arma 3 had realtime shadows (or lighting, can't remember which) like all other games have, the town would be a lot brighter and even the inside of houses would be lit up. Partly related http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=4180

Low CPU utilization & Low FPS

Thats because you only checked in Windows Task Manager. BIS uses a hack to get access to more RAM (32-bit program only has access to 2 gigabytes). I've seen 4 gigs used in singleplayer ( on top of the 1.5 gigs Windows uses). Launch MSI Afterburner and monitor RAM usage.
  12. I was coming round a corner once and saw an AI 50 metres away looking to my right round a corner, at an 90 degree angle. So I took cover round the corner, started peeking, AI headshots me as soon as I stick my head out the 2nd time. All happened in less than a second. First of all, AI shouldn't even be able to see me. 180 degree field of vision seems overpowered, especially when we have 90 at best. Spinning around that fast shouldn't even be humanly possible.

    Interface DLC

And what tells you the solution will be any better? I bet an UI mod by the community would have plenty more success. It has to be customizable. It has to be open to feedback. A ROSE populated by your most used commands for example. 6-9 commands including some custom ones you can make yourself. Like "Pick up gun I'm pointing at and all the ammo for said gun nearby". I don't understand the point of having us pick up a gun and it only comes with the mag that is in it. Can you mention one single situation where you'd want that? Of coz you also want the ammo the enemy dropped. Too much Barbie-doll thinking there. Opening doors and fences are another nuisance. Should be possible to do without having to point at the doorknob.

    AI discussion [Any Branch]

This is true even with a silenced sniper-rifle, silly stuff. What AI soldiers could and should do is move in formations. A couple are tasked with providing cover around corners, a few advance slowly etc. So much that can be done. If AI was more tactical I wouldn't have to place down 200 enemies on the map to get challenged. AI don't call arty-strikes. AI arty tanks seem to do a lot of nothing. Planes suck, floating in the air at 200m, not even trying to avoid enemy fire very much. Flying targets. Choppers suck too. Would be better if they entered an area (seek and destroy-wp) at lower altitude and slowly fly forward instead of fullspeed at 200m altitude and die in a fire. Calling in an airplane to drop a bomb...what can I say...do they HAVE to circle around the area for 5 mins before they actually drop the bomb? Sigh... Even if these things got fixed, improved, the game still runs as a turd. A more tactical turd is not really an improvement. Work on performance, then worry about the other shit.
  16. I usually don't run with Skybox enabled so can't comment on that but other flickering is quite distracting. Just look at shadows, buildings etc. It's pretty bad. Shadows can be fixed somewhat by cranking shadow setting up and using 200m shadows. And I think some HBAO and/or SMAA on High. Buildings will still flicker. Another thing is vehicles. Weird LOD issues. Just look at this ridiculous Marshall. http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=1z5sq6w&s=8 Slightly less angle, drawn correctly. http://tinypic.com/view.php?pic=5p2be9&s=8 My texture setting is on High - Ultra.
  17. Was the same for me when I had a 4 gig Pagefile. I now use 8 gigs instead. Crashes seemed to go away. Arma wasn't using the whole 4 gig according to my monitoring program but still it crashed. 8 gigs of RAM just doesn't seem to be enough for Client + Server. Throw in the HC client and I'm stuttering all over the place cause it's swapping all the time from pagefile.
  18. Nice work on the coloring, I'm really liking this mod. TY.

Arma 3 Referenced Memory cannot be read

I would try increasing size of pagefile first, see if that helps. Second, are you overclocking you RAM? See if the timings are right etc. And run stock clocks.

Arma 3 crash Ran out of memory

From what I've seen on my system: Running client + server, client uses 2gigs, server 1-1.5 gigs ram according to Task Manager. But Arma 3 also caches a big load of memory. It should be using 4.5 gigs of ram BUT I'm seeing 7 gigs used and after a while, game or server crashes (30 mins). With bigger pagefile (Bigger than 4 gigs on HDD), ram usage is 5 gigs but very laggy. So I guess the game puts more data on pagefile and it stutters like crazy cause the game tries to load that data from HDD constantly. Arma 3 might report 2 gigs of ram used (in Task Manager) but in reality it's double the amount. Why do I run server + client? Much better performance in any mission I make/download.

Arma missions on a grand scale?

    For singleplayer, WholeLottaStratis or Altis.
  22. But it isn't. It's only CPU dependant. If you have a gfx card with 2 gigs of VRAM, thats all you need. Doesn't matter what brand or model. I went from GTX760 to R9 290X. Zero difference in Arma 3. Doubled my fps in all my other games.

    Development Blog & Reveals

E3 is nothing but marketing and that is all I expect. Grand words don't mean anything. It's just like a carshow except for games. "There has never been..." You could throw that sentence out there every year. Regardless of field or topic.
  24. That (the quote) would really bring in immersion. What about also having islands have a few configs. Right now the terrain, towns etc are pristine. What if there was a choice of "shot-up" island or "light-weight battle" island. So the place looks less like a tourist attraction and more like a warzone. What breaks immersion most for me is the low FPS. Because it introduces tons of input lag and it's really hard to try to aim at anything or do anything, with precision. Floaty feeling.
  25. I have a problem with HC and DAC. Every 2nd time I play, the AI just stops moving 5-10 mins into the mission. It's like HC crashed but it doesn't. HC is running, no program crash, no errors in the HC-window. Where do reports for HC even end up? I can then login as admin to server, restart the mission and usually I can play the mission to the end. IIRC, it's not always the first time I play that mission, can be 2nd run too. Server is running. Some of the friendly AI is spawned on the server and they keep moving. HC AI are not transferred to server when HC stops responding (or whatevers happening). I think this started happening around the launch of 1.38 to stable. I can't be sure, memory fails me.
