    Csla 2

We would love to... but you know, Santa's FTP is always busy before Christmas, therefore we're not sure the update will make it to Rovaniemi in time... Anyway, maybe it could at least ease your return home from the vacations. I figured that could mean any time over the next couple of days, not necessarily christmas or today.

Sometimes. Â They've killed plenty of people from anti-war/indifferent countries, usually there just from poor countries so we dont hear much, thoses Nepalese workers who were murdered, I felt was espically pointless. Has that base been mentioned in news articles before? I remember reading about a U.S base where they said their were "regular attacks" on the canteen as Iraqi fighters knew they congregated there and also apparently had a good idea of their schedule.

I think i'll play around with it more before i deicide anything, aside from the lag all the other bugs should be pretty fixable though, like the bridge.

    Military Humor

Chips, the War Dog A German Shepherd/Husky mix, Chips was a member of the first War Dog detachment sent overseas from the United States. He first distinguished himself by catching Senegalese natives who were stealing clothes and equipment from his base in North Africa. He also served in the guard of Prime Minister Churchill and President Roosevelt when they met for the Casablanca conference in January of 1943. But his real fame came when he was sent to Sicily. During the initial amphibious assault, Chips and his handler, Private John Rowell, went ashore in the face of fierce fire. The entire detachment was soon pinned down on the beach by a hail of machine-gun fire from an enemy bunker. Trapped and nowhere to go, Chips shook off his handler and charged at the enemy. The Italians in the bunker realised what was coming after them and they desperately tried to shoot the approaching dog. A bullet nicked Chips in the scalp and another went into his hip. Still, he charged and moments later he tore into the bunker. All that the soldiers on the beach could hear were the agonized screams of the Italians inside. One man staggered out with Chips clamped solidly to his neck. Then, three more men came out and surrendered in terror. Chips had captured the machine gun nest and undoubtedly saved the lives of many men that had been pinned down on the beach. After the action, Major General Lucian Truscott, commander of the American 3rd Infantry Division, awarded Chips the Silver Star for bravery, and the Purple Heart for wounds received in action. On November 19, 1943, Chips stood in a churchyard in Pientravairano, Italy to receive his medals. His citation read: For a special brand of courage, arising from love of master and duty. Chips' courageous act, single-handedly eliminating a dangerous machine-gun nest, reflects the highest credit on himself and the military service. Sadly, Chips' medals were withdrawn. There were protests by some who felt that it was inappropriate to award an animal a decoration meant for humans. After recovering from his wounds, Chips went on to fight in Italy, France and Germany. The famous dog even met General Eisenhower when he stopped by for a visit to the Division. Chips, having been trained to be suspicious of strangers, bit Eisenhower's hand as he tried to pet him, because the General was not in full military dress. When the war ended, Chips was sent home and discharged. He was unofficially awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with eight battle stars by his unit. He later returned to his original family in New York, where he remained for the rest of his days. http://www.geocities.com/pentagon/bunker/3351/allmen/anim.html

USA Politics Thread - *No gun debate*

Freedom of speech dosent extend to the private sector though, clear channel have as much right not to play music they dont like because of the artists belifs as shops have the right not to sell it. Â There are plenty of U.S celebrities who are critical of the right, its just that if your fanbase are mainstream or right leaning then they usually want celebrites they admire not to challenge their world view. Â If your a platnium country artist you know that kind of stuff is gonna give you shit, thats why that girl from the dixie chicks said it outside of the U.S. Your supposed to pander to your audience, the Nuge is a good example of someone who knows how to this. Springsteen can say what he wants cause everyone knows where he stands already.

I seem to be the only person who finds it totally believeable that he got 3 years. What about the U.S militarys track record on dead foreigners makes this a shock, theres a long list of controversial/dodgy sentances given to U.S soldiers when they kill civilians or friendly non-american troops. A U.S president/government's more likley to worry about the negative effect that a harsh sentacnce on a soldier will have on thier image at home, than the effect of a lenient sentance.

    The Iraq thread 4

No one ever took responsibility for Margaret Hassans death, personally I think it was because it would have been considered unnacceptable even by many anti-western Iraqis, I trhink the reason it was done is because somebody wanted to make a point that it didnt matter who she was married to, or how long she'd helped the Iraqis, she was a foreigner and thats enough for them to murder her or anyone else. Didnt the company that uparmours humvees say the could double production like a year ago? I'm sure i read that.Besides Rumsfelds statement was bullshit anyway, Iraq wasnyt an imminent threat, it wasnt Nazi Germany at the start of WW2, they had all the time they wanted to prepare for that invasion, thats not what it was about though, their arent enough uparmoured vehicles for the same reason there wernet enough troops on the ground to begin with. War is not a business venture with a bottom line.

    European Politics Thread.

I dont understand this arms embargo, France sells choppers to China, they entered a joint venture to supply eurocopters in the late 90's to he PLA. How can that not be in breach of the embargo? I cant speak for other countries, but from a British standpoint its a bit of joke, Blair paid lip service to an "ethical foreign policy" a while ago, we sell to Indonesia, they give us a promise not to use weapons in "internal repression", they do, we say they'll be an investigation, then the medias interest fizzles out. Why make exceptions for China at this point, the SAS trains notorious Colombian military units, etc, etc.

    Dying For Your Country

Its only really been since the end of WW1 that the perception of war as a "glourious adventure" has really started to be dented by reality, so I guess looking at it as dying for/becuase of your government may be the most appropriate view, since politicians seem to be the biggest war junkies of all - at least in the 20th century. I mean I support the American ideals of democracy and freedom over the ideals of communism since reality tends to make communism a lot more unworkable, but the problem is people like Henry Kissinger who decide its acceptable to drop 20 tonnes of bombs on every square mile of a country their nations not even at war with. In a democracy, it could be argued that your country sent you, not the government, since the government is elected to carry out the will of the people. (can anyone spot a flaw in that argument ) Ultimatley it comes down to individual belief, you cant tell someone something they consider to be a basic truth, like the rightness of a war is bullshit and expect them to see it differently. Its a view that would be shaped by your background and probably by actual experiences of war.

    Dying For Your Country

Vietanm and to a lesser extent Korea were fought for U.S interests and ideology, the domino theory never came true and the gulf of tonkin incident was staged. They werent true examples of defending a country by proxy any more than U.S interventions in latin america was. Should'nt the failure to stop the whole of Vietnam becoming a Communist dictatorship have led to more serious reprecussions for the cold war if the domino theory was valid? China flooded Noth Korea with troops after the U.S ignored warnings not to deploy troops to close to their border, yet the Chinese and Russians ultimatley werent willing to openly support North Korea in the way the West was willing to support South Korea.

    Dying For Your Country

Broadly, at least for Western nations , theres a lot of peacekeeping more than war now, so I guess technically thats not dying for your country, although perhaps for its interests. European soldiers who died in colonial wars in most cases were fighting for the benefit of their nations elite, rather than of the country as a whole, but those people had dififerent values so they may have seen it as dying for their country and plenty of people probably still do. However you could die in a foreign country protecting your own citizens, what then?

    Dying For Your Country

I think it depends, im not trying to offend anyone but when I hear americans talk about "defending their country" in reference to invading a nation that couldnt possibly threaten them, I just think yeah, whatever. Also, when people talk about it like its a glourious thing, they should think about people who gave their sight, or their ability to walk or suffered wounds that will affect them for the rest of their lives. Ultimatley the side you fight for, and for most people their idea of who the good guys and bad guys are is determined by where youre born, in modern times its mostly political I think, unless you believe in "my country right or wrong." Which can take you to some fu***d places.

  24. I've got 2 triggers set up, 1 is West detected by East, the other is Res detected by East. Â In the activation lines of the 2 trigs i have: t1 = true for the 1st trig t2 = true for the 2nd trig I have a tank with a waypoint its supposed to wait at until one or the other trigger is activated, if i put T1 in the condition field of that waypoint it waits just fine and then move when that trig is activated. I thought i might be able to put "T1 or T2" in the WP's condition field and it would wait for one or the other but I get an error message when those units reach the WP. Is there something I can put in the condition field of a WP to get the desired effect? I screwed up the title of this post.
  25. I've sort of gotten round it by using [groupOne, 1] setWPPos getWPPos [groupOne, 3] to make them move to the right waypoint, I dont get why the other way dosent work though.
