  1. [*] The electoral collage should be dumped in favour of a popular vote. When you are voting for the president, you are not voting as New Yorkers or Californians etc, but as Americans.

This is done so that vote is not decided by NYC and California alone. It's a (slight?) re-weighting of states, IMHO not so bad.

What I don't get is why they don't split the electoral college votes based on the state's results? That would keep the weighting of the votes in favour of the smaller states, while really making all votes count, - not just those in the 'swing states'. This would make for much more balanced results. At the moment, if you're living in Texas as a Democrat or in California as a Republican you might just as well stay home on election day.

  2. The funny thing is I can still buy OFP:CWC in my local games shop - but nowhere do they have GOTY or Resistance... I think that's quite a bad thing for people who buy CWC now (because it's cheap ). They'll have no chance to see how OFP improved over the time as they'll be stuck with 1.46...

  3. If anything vehicles that are currently flying. It's not much work - I'd just have to also record the speed (not just the speed mode), grab the vehicles' vector and record that, too. ATM that's not as high a priority as getting more info on the waypoints. The waypoint positions are a start, tho. Thanks for the hint.

The weapon & ammo loadout is solved, thanks to another forum post I just read.

And thank you very much for the rank script - as I have the crew units I can query their rank directly ignoring the (basically 'rankless') vehicle. Didn't know the rating at mission start (which is exactly when I'll record it) represented the rank... Nice trick!

  4. Hi, I'm working ona script that analyzes a couple of given groups (only the group names must be given to the script) and then stores the information nescessary to spawn these units with most of their original properties (similar to ai on demand by CoC). Unfortunately I'm still figuring out how to obtain as much data on the groups as possible. Maybe some of you can provide some help with this:

Waypoints: I have the initial formation, formation position and direction, speed, behaviour and combatmode. I need: a way to obtain the same information for the group's waypoints placed in the editor, ideally including the type of the waypoints.

Units: I have the unit type, health status, skill and position. I need: a good way to obtain a units weapon/ammunition layout (if possible a function returning a command string that would equip a newly spawned unit with the exact same stuff). Also is there a way to query the rank of a unit?

Vehicles: I have the vehicle type, dammage status, position, crew and cargo slots. I need: maybe something to detect flying vehicles (very low priority, tho).

  5. Famous names don't make good voice acting. MGS/MGS2 had the best voice acting in ages with relatively low-profile names. The Getaway had some good voiceacting too, and I didn't recognize a single name from the cast listing there IIRC tounge_o.gif

True true. But voice in Tachyon are good though (i have the game yes). Bruce Campbell is a funny guy is Xena, and kinda sarcastic like in Tachyon.

I have to second that - While Xena and all that is utter crap in my opinion his voice acting made Tachyon really stand out. The game's good, but the voice acting (also the other parts) gave it that special atmosphere I very much enjoyed.

  6. I hope we'll play today (Wednesday) - even with Bals off to the RealThing. How about it Llauma? Or what about moving it to Zeus and having some games with the guys there? There's usually quite a number of forum members on there as well - and the gameplay is usually mature with good coordination.

  7. New Florida vote scandal feared

Quote[/b] ] Two e-mails, prepared for the executive director of the Bush campaign in Florida and the campaign's national research director in Washington DC, contain a 15-page so-called "caging list".

It lists 1,886 names and addresses of voters in predominantly black and traditionally Democrat areas of Jacksonville, Florida.

An elections supervisor in Tallahassee, when shown the list, told Newsnight: "The only possible reason why they would keep such a thing is to challenge voters on election day."

Ion Sancho, a Democrat, noted that Florida law allows political party operatives inside polling stations to stop voters from obtaining a ballot.

Political party members allowed to prevent people from voting??? Jesus, that's worse than a banana republic! So much for constitutional rights...

  8. If you only play a few games and surf the net then you might not need the flatrate. GMX has good offers for volume tariffs (much cheaper than T-Online) while still using the Telekom infrastructure. For the flatrate I also recommend t-online. Good quality connections and great pings if you use fastpath.

As for the 1&1 offer: make sure that's not just the flatrate but also includes the dsl connection fee (which I doubt).

  9. @ Joltan: lol. Political refugee status in order to get a free stay in another country and set up with a job?

Hehe, just showing you the possibilities... wink_o.gif

Seriously, if you think about emigrating it's always good to checkout possible countries beforehand. The best way to do that is first to go there for an extended vacacion and if you like it, then check whether you can find a job there for a duration of 1-2 years. After that you'll know if you really want to settle there - and you still have the possibility to return home quickly if you don't.

And no, political refugees are usually not 'set up with a job', but they have the right to stay without already having one (usually a prerequisite).

  10. Well, for the object placement a 1:25000 map should be fine. If you're really into details then there's also 1:5000 scale maps ('Deutsche Grundkarte') available. But then those might only be interesting if you're really into details. Here's the links to the TK25 products for Hessen and Thuringia. Unfortunately both links are only in German - I haven't found an english page yet. But as I said, your local map shop (sometimes a good book store, too) should be able to order the maps for you and help you in selecting the exact sheets you need.

  11. Anyone know of a website that I can find good maps on?

Depends on what you really need. Elevation models with 50m or better resolution? Topographic maps 1:50000 or better? The best (and most expensive) source for these (at least in Germany if you're really interested in the Fulda Gap) would be the Landesvermessungsämter. They sell the digital data nescessary - although at a price - and they are very, very strict about what you're allowed to use them for (although that depends mostly on how much money you've got). Oh, and if you find an error in their data you are responsible for fixing it - and for submitting the fix to them. For free. In short: they are bastards.

Alternative: buy an official topographic paper map 1:50000 or 1:25000 and create your own elevation model by digitizing the elevation lines (can be done on screen after scanning and rectifying the map - use GRASS or another free GIS). The maps can be bough in map shops (bigger cities have those and if you're not in Germany the local shop should still be able to order them anyways) or via internet. You'll be needing maps for Hessen and Thuringia.

The free data available on the net are usually too coarse, but the paper maps are cheap and high quality.

  12. "Best way to control guns is prosecute those that commit crimes with guns" crazy_o.gif

What did you expect? [sarcasm]If they're as lucky as they were in Columbine High they don't even have to prosecute (= saving money for the war on terror = good!).[/sarcasm]

  13. I'd say if prizes for clothes from certain brands are more important to you than possible employment chances (or did I miss your questions about those?), then forget about emigrating. Rather try to move inside your own country. Immigration laws usually expect you to have a job contract before you get the right to stay... And I don't think Canada would accept you as a political refugee (they would probably if you were a deserter from the US military, tho).
