Cs is planned to be banned in germany by bpjs!

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote (Ex-RoNiN @ April 09 2002,18:28)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Germany always ban everything  <span id='postcolor'> Well, these games are not "banned", but restricted. I think about the only game that ever got banned (i.e. ownership was ilegal) was W3D because of all the 3rd Reich insignia. The restricted games are legal to buy and own - if you are over 18 years old. Also you are not allowed to make advertisements for these games (something that isn't nescessary anyway, as they are usually well known among gamers before they are restricted). The only problem is, that as the shops are not allowed to put the games on the shelves (which counts as advertising them in public) but only to give them out on request, so they think they won't sell many of them anyway. Therefore after being restricted most shops will remove the game from their stocks. But of course they usually can order a package for you anytime - so if you can prove your age, you actually can buy them. And, you always can order a game on the internet... I think it is ok to restrict very violent games to adults, as is done with movies - especially as the games look more and more like the real thing. That's all that this is about.

    Installed mods

I really like (and use) Ash's addons (RealMBTs, RealAPCs, RealWestChoppers), the Ranger-addon, UCE's Russians (normal and winter camo) and Kegetey's Winter Kolguyev (together with the ArcticArmour and WinterVehicles packs). Oh, and Flipper's Barrett (sp?). Once a good Huey is available, I'll probably install Jungle Everon and get some Vietnam-era addons to play with. The desert stuff on the other hand seems a bit boring to me, so I don't use it at all.

    Textlog & debuglog

Whew, what a coincidence I just posted the same question - It would be really good if someone (Suma???) could help us.
  9. Ok, I want to utilize the TextLog command to collect some ingame data. The instruction seems to work fine when called with a string variable (well at least I don't get any error message and the script runs fine), but nowhere can I find the output. BIS command reference tells me, that the instruction dumps the content of the variable to the "debugging output". Well, is that a path or filename I can define in a config file, or will I need a real debugger (that is to install a c compiler)?

    Tides in ofp

Does OFP have real tides (rising and falling sealevel over the course of several hours) or just waves? It would be cool if the passage from one island to another (within the same map) was only possible during a few hours. Like in the North Sea where you can walk from island to island during some hours of the day.

    Tides in ofp

Ok, this evening I decided to have some fun and go experimenting. I put a M113 somewhere in the sea (hb66, Malden map) and measured it's elevation and the current time. This was done by a script, which repeated the measurement 50 times (one measurement every 5 seconds) and then advanced the clock an quarter of an hour, only to repeat the whole procedure. This was done for 12 hours. The effect of single waves was eliminiated by recording only the medium of each batch of 50 measurements. Day was May 10th, from 8.07 to 19.73. Results: max. difference of sealevel only 0.42m during that time, difference within one batch up to aprox. 0.2m. The resulting graph (sorry, no graphic server right now) indicates a slow rythm (aprox. 6-7h peak to peak) overlaid with a lot of short term oszilations (sp?). Maybe they simulate real tides (following a 27,32 day rythm with two tides a day). Would be a big effort for an infantry simulation, so I doubt it. Also I found the time between a maximum and a minimum to be more in the order of 3 hours, which would mean 4 tides a day. But then this little experiment has some flaws (no random sampling, big clusters, low temporal resolution, only a period of 12 hours covered), so I'd rather not trust my ass on it. If it were possible to log the measured values automatically into a file, a more precise and exhaustive evaluation would have been possible. BIS: any detailed infos on that? It would be cool to have a kind of tidal calendar for the isles, so we would know in advance at what time we could expect high or low water. Edit: Seems that I found a way to log the variables to an ascii file. If it works (textlog command), I'll improve the analysis...

    Just who are you?

Well, I'm 29 years old and live in in a small city in southwestern Germany. I'm graduated in forest sciences and doing my PhD in remote sensing and geographic information systems now. Main interests? Well, in addition to computers and my job I like to go out with friends, can't say "No!" to a good bottle of wine, like travelling a lot, prefere a good book to a bad movie (and a good movie to a bad book ), enjoy inline skating and trecking,... in short: there IS a life besides OFP. Yeah, some tropical island group would be cool. Once wrpedit is out, I'll tweak one of my DEMs to fit in ofp. What buggers me about ofp is that the engine can only manage one waterlevel: no inland lakes or dams possible. That would be REALLY cool.

Do you (anybody? BIS! ) know how much the sea level changes? Tide would make for some cool islands if taken into consideration! I guess I'll just have to grab part of one of the dems on my hd and start experimenting...

    Terrain modeling with dem's

I'd like Corsica or Creta, but I guess they're just (a little bit) too big. I guess the Falklands will be done by the guys from the Falklands mod (I think there was such a message on the ofpinternals forum). Mhhh... What about a group of medium sized islands that fit in one map? Arctic or maybe caribean style (with a reef perimeter!).

    Uh-1 huey

Whew, just got my Apcalypse Now Redux dvd today. After seeing this movie again, I can't barely wait to get a Huey (and a Littlebird or whatever the other Heli from the big chopper scene is called) for OFP. We already got the boat (unfortunately only with the front machine gun), so you modellers just have to give us the chopper and the tropical river delta to play with. Eviscerator, I just hope that you succeed in finishing that chopper soon, looks very promising.

I have access to tons of maps but I'm not sure if it will be legal to use them because they are produced by defense mapping agency<span id='postcolor'> Mhhh... I guess this depends if they are considered confidential. Usually if you buy a topographic map and generate your own dem manually from it, it's perfectly legal to put the dem to whatever use you plan to. Of course that's for comercial maps, not military stuff. Also comercial topographic maps aren't very expensive and if you plan to generate the dem manually you won't be able to process too many of them anyway (lots of work and not much fun). So why not just grab a comercial map instead of the dod ones?

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote (USSoldier11B @ April 15 2002,20:42)</td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">Also be aware that it is hard to find good DEM's for other parts of the world. (Outside of U.S.)<span id='postcolor'> Not really, it's not that hard to find good DEMs (50m or sometimes even better) for most parts of the world - you just have to pay for them. Here in Germany a km˛ (at 50x50m grid resolution) costs about 3€ if you buy data for less than 5000 km˛ and gets cheaper if you buy more (down to around 0.30€/km˛ for more than 50000 km˛). Of course 25m, 10m or 5m resolution are much more expensive. For a standard OFP map (12.5x12.5km) that would be around 375 US$ (less if you consider that the islands won't really occupy the whole map area). Probably too expensive for a noncomercial addonon, but definitely available. Hell, you get these even for tropical forests in Mexico (used one once - good quality, delivered as GeoTIF by INEGI). Just check the website of the country's (or state's) geography and mapping department when looking for dem data for any part of the world. Edit: Also you could digitize the elevation data from topographic maps (1:25000 scale or better recomended) and generate the elevation modell yourself.
