The latest version of the vit apcs didn't come with a config file - maybe you need to remove the VITAPC_config.pbo?
-
No, showing your ID isn't - that's normal, and it shouldn't apply only to foreigners but to every citizen (in my country you have to carry an id card). What is much more critical is the collection of data about people visiting the US that your administration requires the carriers to supply. Note that the information collected goes far beyond what is required to get the visa - including bank details and more 'private' stuff. As this goes far beyond anything considered legal and acceptable (at least for us here in Europe) this is a very good reason NOT to visit the US.

Bush is not the one who evaluates the seriousness of a threat. he's not the one getting the threat messages from foreign intelligence agencies - they are filtered first through a very long chain of analysts and officials. Of course they did not take the terrorist danger serious enough - but that can only be said in hindsight. Is this gross negligence or just a simple misjudgement? Who knows? That's what the hearings are for, and that's why I wrote it is important to look into the reasons. The 'blame game' some of you are trying to play here, on the other hand, has nothing to do with finding any shortcomings and resolving them, but simply with finding a scape goat. Edit: I consider Bush and his croonies a quite incompetent bunch of cretins, don't get me wrong there - but as I explained, there's much better (and real) reasons for disliking them than simply blaming '9/11' on them. Edit 2: some grammar & some formulations

No, that is not what I meant. There were reasons why the safeguards against such things failed (airport security, inter-agency cooperation, evaluation of possible threats), and those have to be looked into. But believing that Bush or any of his croonies actually WILLINGLY IGNORED a threat they themselves considered serious is just plain stupid. So blaming TBA for 9/11 (but for their changes in foreign policy) is just stupid. People can make wrong judgements or not recognize a threat in time, and in afterthought it is always easy to point out the errors. The question is, did someone commit these errors intentionally (not likely), because of incompetence or gross negligence (time to act on it) or was it just an ill-fated combination of minor errors/misjudgements/structural problems. The security agencies failed to act on information they had, the airport security was (and still is) a joke and the govenement was in general quite uninterested in international affairs (apart from imposing steel tariffs & generally pissing off allies). While it is important that the reasons are investigated pinning all that on TBA is just silly. What CAN be pinned on them is how they reacted to these failures, how they acted to prevent such a thing to happen again or to bring down the culprits. They can be blamed for failing on all accounts for that - but certainly not for 9/11 happening at all. They may have done more in advance - but how that would have prevented terrorists from capturing the planes I really can't see. Just look at how lax security on domestic flights in the US still is... with badly paid security personal and carriers competing purely on costs you can't expect each passenger to be scanned thoroughly. And certainly you couldn't before 9/11. Watergate on the other hand was actually a criminal action sanctioned by the White House - that's something quite different. Of course - some things TBA did AFTER 9/11 in my eyes can be regarded as (far worse) criminal acts, too.

I think all this 'could have', 'might have' and hindsight is just a waste of time imo. I don't believe a moment if any of the parties involved had had a reason to believe those attacks were imminent they wouldn't have reacted. There were definitely failures and weaknesses have been exposed - whether the attack could have been prevented is beside the point as it's already happened. What is important is how TBA continued from thereon - how they acted in Afganistan, Iraq, the Middle East - and in relation to the muslim world in general. That is where they really fucked up. Not before 9/11, but afterwards.

I just have to say that I'm a bit pissed by people starting to fight about the 'privilege' to provide a server. Hell, people can play wherever they want, whenever they want. For people in Europe CiA server provides perfect pings (25ms for me) and bandwidth - and it uses addons. For people in the States - or who can't/won't use addons - BlackDog's server may be better. CiA is coop only, BlackDog's server isn't (I may be wrong there). So there's something for everyone - where is the goddam problem??? You also can play first on one and then on the other... I think this is just silly!

Ctd 15 seconds after custom sound is played
joltan replied to Albert Schweitzer's topic in TROUBLESHOOTING
Maybe a bug in OFP's ogg codec (probably only in conjugation with specific soundcards/drivers)? Haven't seen this happening myself (yet), but maybe you can give the ogg file to other OFP players and see what will happen on their systems? You find the custom sounds of other players in your OperationFlashpoint/tmp folder. -
I think most of this will probably have to wait for OFP3 (due to be released in 2008, preorder at Amazon.com NOW!). But even if only some of the suggestions would be possible to implement in OFP2 it would be awesome!

From the BBC article about the incident in Falluja. Ignoring the horrible topic of that article I was quite shocked at hearing such a high number. We hear about 1-2 incidents every other day in the news, and of course the number is higher - but this number is quite extreme... How's the casualty rate now? Anyone still following that up?

Blurry texture after setobjecttexture?
joltan replied to vektorboson's topic in ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Found the problem - the decription.ext was exactly the same as yours. But as I didn't open it with Notepad (as I usually do) but with a script editor is got saved as decription.sqs... Jez, I checked everything before asking here, but I must have been blind to commit such an oversight! -
No I don't think so. LSD would definitely <span style='font-size:17pt;line-height:100%'>not</span> help a pilot fly his plane. But it would explain a lot, don't you think? The video was posted ages ago in this forum - probably in the military humor thread. It's a great classic!

Blurry texture after setobjecttexture?
joltan replied to vektorboson's topic in ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
I tried this and I always get the errormessage "resource scfPreloadTextures not found" when running the script. I just cut'n paste your description.ext from above and then used a slightly modified version of the script you posted: <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">_object=_this select 0 _textid=_this select 1 _texture=_this select 2 _ok = createDialog "scfPreloadTextures" ctrlSetText [100, _texture] ~0.5 _object setObjectTexture [_textid, _texture] closeDialog 0 exitBut even if I don't use variables but give the texture id & path directly (i.e.: use exactly your script) I get the error. I'm quite ignorant about dialogs, but I guess the problem lies either in the description.ext definition or in the way the dialog is called. Could you please provide some help with this issue? -
How much do you need for makeing a good cti server
joltan replied to Colossus's topic in MULTIPLAYER
I would assume 512GB to be more than enough - what's more important is a strong cpu and good bandwidth. CTI (with ai units and lots of players) is quite demanding on the server. So I recommend a 2GHz+ cpu and a fast connection. -
Ah, missed that - intro cutscenes. Well, you have to end it just like a mission (the intro/outro cutscenes in sp are basically just seperate missions). Place a trigger that ends the intro on completing your camera script (use a variable to trigger it).
-
Simple - you faded out - now you need to fade in again: <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">TitleText [" ","black in",2] else the screen will stay black ;)

I see, the papers with the list of winners obviously got dropped and as a result some names were lost lost (and replaced with Placebo's own name to cover up) and the others put back into the wrong categories... Anyways, congrats to the winners!

Check the FAQ and look for 'firewall'.

Just imagine a cruise missile with an engine like that - that would be really hard to shoot down...

Ah, 'new sockets implementation' - uh, yeah, right. VON is only available in DirectPlay mode as the voice com is a feature of that very network service. It's not as if BIS had written their own voice com - they just implemented what Microsoft offered anyways. For sockets they would either have had to write their own voice com or to license a third party product. With many seperate voice applications like TS and RW available the priority was probably low in comparison to improving OFP itself. While it would be nice to have something similar to VON implemented in OFP 2, you never had a chance to moderate the voice channel (i.e. to identify and get rid of voice spammers). For now you still can play using DirectPlay whenever you feel like using the internal voice com. There's even some public servers (like Kyllikki) who still use it.

"She gave unsworn testimony to the 9/11 Commission for four hours already. She wants to give more unsworn testimony to the 9/11 Commission to clear up those inconsitancies." It may be the fact that English is only my second foreign language, but doesn't 'unsworn testimony' mean the same as 'not under oath'? I doubt national security would go down the crapper if she would answer some questions in public - on the contrary, it would actually strengthen TBA if she showed that they don't fear some questions. But it seems she's too frightened (not from the comission, but from the possible public reaction).

Why can't she testify under oath?
