A player run corporation can be seen as a squad in OFP - people who work together and have fun. Here's a short feature list. Basically if you know the old Elite game then you have an idea what's the game is about. You can trade, hunt pirates (or be one), you can form a corporation and have wars with other corps, mine the belts - or you can just explore the thousands of solar systems. Here's a link to the official FAQ. There's about 4000 - 10000 people on all the time. The client is free for download (465mb) and there's a 7-day trial via the buddy programm, where you can play without the need to pay or even give credit card details. After that the account creation costs 20 Euro (including one month of game time) and you can buy additional game time in 1-, 3- or 6-month packages. Monthly subscription costs are between 15 and 11 Euros (the larger the game time package you buy the cheaper it is per month). The good thing compared to other MMORPGs is that you can advance your skills without being online all the time. training doesn't depend on you whacking hundreds of enemies, but only on the time you have set a certain skill for learning - and the learning process continues in real time even if you are logged off. So even casual gamers who actually got a live can play it and advance their character.

Where are you getting those missions from??? I've still got only access to agent level 1 missions (mostly boring and badly paid - I need to get my connections and negotiation skills up I guss), so I prefer to go out and hunt gurrista pirates for the loot. The Merlin's a very nice ship, but a bit slow (don't have the skills for an mwd yet). I'll keep it but the main goal for the moment is to get enough money & skills for the Moa I'm aiming for.

Ah, I started my character (ingame name's 'Daddl') just a few days ago, so I think I'll keep out of those for some time. I got me the nescessary skills and now I'm just training them up slowly so I can not only fly a cruiser, but also fight properly with it. Till then I'll stick to my trusted Merlin and indys. I'll probably start hauling cargo for a corp soon, too - good money through teamwork and some protection for my badger mk2. I have some friends in EVOL, but I'm not sure I want to join a corp that's at war with several other corps while I can neither really contribute nor defend myself.

Right, Caldaris are the best! Let me guess - you call yourself Longinius ingame, too? I just saw the name in the EVE Online forums and I was wondering wether it'd be the same person...

Ok, I just reinstalled my OFP including the Gold Update (i.e. the Red Hammer campaign) and went straight from 1.75 to 1.96 with the new 'final' patch. Unfortunately I couldn't find a working campaign fix for Red Hammer. The download at Codemasters only works up to V1.85, and another one (don't remember where I got it from) only works up to V1.91. Is there any working patch for the campaign, so it's possible to play it using 1.96 without being forced to update first to 1.85 or 1.91?

Is that 1km from the origin of the artillery fire - or 1km within the area where the shells land? I guess (and hope) the latter, but it wasn't absolutely clear to me from your description. Anyways - sounds like a great idea - and makes the use of artillery a little bit more of a challange (i.e. - first take out the radar, then shell the enemy positions - or get blown away by the counter battery fire).

That was just incredible!!! After the first goal for France I was saying 'Oh, well, at least now it's even - but they'll never... WTF!!!' - but then Zidane was already preparing for his shot. I mean this end was a fine example how a too rough style of playing can cost you a game that you dominated right up to the end. I mean a foul by the goal keeper... Very unfortunate for England, they had a superb defense - right up to that moment. Anyways: Allez les bleus!!!
-
Prediction: it will get ugly if England's about to loose...

Now that's a nice area around there. I can't wait for my next visit to Praha in July/August - it's a beautifull city! And yeah, those 'plattenbauten' can be found all over the former eastern block - and in most bigger west european cities suburbs. In in the former kommunist east of Germany they even build a whole city in that manner:
-
And they deserved it - damn, there were free 'eclipse' glasses available everywhere!
-
Allez les bleus! I'm tempted to send Zidane a walking stick but I still like the team. Germany doesn't play well enough to get even to the quarters - although we'll probably play like shit, just make the cut and later get to be second in the competition - as usual.

Check the UserInfo.cfg in your user folder (i.e. OFP/users/Albert Schweizer). There's a setting called terrainGrid - change that to 50.000000 and you're done (that's the 'low' setting, you can adjust it again ingame).
-
No way - you keep them. Used items only can be returned within the first two years after aquisition (and only if the subject was already defective at the time). We send them off to you decades ago. The guarantee time's over, sorry. Actually if you look around over here, we still have our share of ignorants, and I really doubt there's a remedy against them.

LOL. I'm sorry I left right at the start of a mission, too. My machine crashed (seems to be a device driver problem), so I spend the rest of the evening trying to fix up the system.

Are we intel owners forced to buy new motherboard
joltan replied to Albert Schweitzer's topic in OFFTOPIC
You might be astonished, but there's enough applications where the 4GB limit of 32bit applications and processors IS already a big problem - just think of the memory map problems OFP shows with too many addons, not to speak of serious applications. How much I'd give for a 64-bit workstation at work, but unfortunately we have to use standard pc hardware and Windows. At least with 64bit Windows and hardware I will be able to work on my data without cutting them in chunks that a 32bit machine can chew and without all the problems that this brings with it.. -

I'm waiting to get a new system until next year, when the new technologies are established in the market. There's always some changes that may require you to get a new motherboard, but this time it's a general overhaul: with pci express, ddr2, 64bit cpus and a new form factor for motherboards (better airflow = less cooling issues). The new socket for the Intel cpu is just one thing that changes. The Athlon64 is getting a new socket soon, too - while the AthlonXP is going to be discontinued after some time. -
The point is: everyone has a mouse and keyboard, everyone is used to these input devices and most games can be controlled intuitively as the basic controls are mostly the same (or at least they can be configured to fit your taste). As long as 3d contollers don't have a similar wide range of uses (i.e. they replace the mouse) and get MUCH cheaper (less then a cheap joystick) they will not be very widespread. Why? because most people are not hardcore gamers and most games can be controlled quite good by the traditional means. People just won't shell out the money for something they don't need that much.

Jez, why don't you just make them yourself? The dough's done in about 3 minutes (flour, water, yeast, salt and - if ya want - spices), the topping takes another 2 minutes - and it beats any frozen pizza (never found one that didn't need improving anyways)! Oh, and it's cheaper, too.

[LOL] ... check the ingame browser

Playing on LOL right now...

I'm in (as I'm not sure wether I can make it tomorrow). But where? CiA is down, how about another server? After all it's a forum event and not bound to CiA (even if I like to play there very much).

Update to OFP 1.96 - fixes some of the issues with displaying large maps in the editor. Also it's not a beta patch in comparison to 1.91 (which still had some severe bugs).

The chain of command tomahawk pack v. 1.0
joltan replied to dinger's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Actually I was mostly amazed by the 'video' that could be seen in the intro mission - until I took a peek how it was done. Nice trick, and one that will be copied soon by many people. Sometimes the right idea is all that's needed. Thanks for the great addon and nice intro mission! -
And once again I'm happy NOT to have a tv! Although Germany seems to send something better than a clown this year (a real novelty I'd say). Anyways, to all who watch it tonight: Suffer!!!

I demand this thread to be renamed to 'Barbecue receipts for gamer - survival guide for the summer season' and then pinned in OFFTOPIC till autnum!
