Thanks Dan mate, Im currently self teaching myself 3d max modelling and just getting some basic tutorials out the way. Will post up some pics when i get something worth showing (UKF forums).
Thanks for all the links so far guys, really appreciate the time you guys have taken to give us some ideas of what i need.
As for 3d max modelling, im so used to making models with o2 now and placing verts everywhere that its quite hard to get out of that routine. Im also always trying to move the model around with w a d and s
Will get there tho in the end Regards
Jeff

I could think of other reasons why some mags/sites reviews are so wrong.... Say i give you a certain percentage of my profits for giving my game a good score

Thanks very much, very interesting and its great to see such a scene that enjoy making and playing games instead of seeing the $ signs

-
It is a terrible shame and i believe it will always be the way from generations to come.

No offense, jeftec, but I'm slightly confused.I can understand your being opposed to the war (I also was against it from the start), as that's a common sense opinion. Â However, I'm intrigued as to why you'd "never fight for England". Â First off you'd be fighting for Britain, and you'd be fighting for your country - not the politicians. Â Are you saying that it Britain should go to war with China tomorrow, you wouldn't serve if the call came?
And I find it hard to believe that you wouldn't fight when you obviously must spend quite a bit of time playing on our very own military simulator, or be a part of UKF (whose team members are of a very high calibre).
Not religious at all mate as that too is a thing that is problematic from past to present.
Just for the simple reason that im dead against taking someones life just because im am told to do so. Wars are always started due to someones ideology and im simply not a follower. Also as stated the veterans of past wars are treated like dirt here with younger generations having no respect for them, freezing to death at home due to not being able to afford fuel bills, being robbed by drug abusers (list goes on)
The only time i would fight is for my family and friends and that would then only be if their life is in direct danger.
And as for playing a war simulation, that is all i see it as. I do enjoy a good old blast of flashpoint and i know the difference between real life and a computer simulation.

Only thing i dont like about grass in most games is that if you lay down you cannot see threw the grass, yet the guy some distance away can see you (since in most games grass only appears with in a certain distance of the player) meaning you get your head blowen off and not being able to return fire.
That was a major prob in Joint ops. I really hope that AA doesnt have that sort of grass that does that as its highly frustrating, because you think you are well hidden then you get shot because you arnt hidden from a distance due to the grass not being drawn at certain distances.

Yeah i was thinking the same about how much of a profit do they actually make. Saying that if you do well like BIS and sell over a million copies at 30 english pounds each your gonna make 30000000 but thats before everyone has their fair share (or not fair) of pay. Glad the indie scene is thriving (got any links?)
-
A quick post here from moi. Havent really read much into this but i thought i will give you my quick thoughts on the war. Its all to do with money and ego's plain and simple. I dont know how true the stats are of how many civilians have died (30000+) but its gonna be a bloody big number by the time the egotastic bush and blair pull out of the country.
Really disagree with this war and always have. I would never fight for England (may call me spineless or whatever but send the people who start the wars out there instead) as you just have to look at the old veterans to see how badly they have been treated for giving their lifes for this country.
I can understand why some people in Iraq are taking up arms and shooting back at allied soldiers. Think how you would feel if some other country came over to your country and started blowing the shit out of your town/city and killing friends and family? Would you sit there and watch everything you have be destroyed?
Maybe they should just change this "war on terror" to "war of terror"

Been reading about some game companys in the UK trying to survive due to how the games market is played now. Â Its really sad but the industry is just getting a bit greedy now and the development teams that aspire to create new and highly playable games are being closed down due to lack of funding. Â This is why we are seeing so many bloody sequals now as they are a safe bet of making a profit. Â This in the end i believe will kill the industry as the public will just get bored of playing remakes.
Why in the hell does it take millions to make games now, is it due to the size of development teams? Â is it the advertising? is it just men in suits who have no interest in games making a nice tidy sum?
Your views please Â

-
Dont believe reviews, simple as that. Â If you look at some games reviewed on certain popular websites you will notice that public reviews sometimes totally go against what the expert reviewer has posted. Â Ive noticed most sequels in their 10th or 11 form are still getting 90% scores even tho the game itself is exactly the same it was 10 years ago (with changes to gfx, sound, etc) Â Simple way of getting people to buy this game is to recommend it, post your thoughts of the game on several forums where you read these reviews. Â I only buy a game if its worth buying now either by hands on experiance or recommendations from friends. Â Â

Quote[/b] ]Looking at the picture of a soldier I get the impression that pro 3D applications will not be supported. I am just guessing but It'd allow to kick the game to the next level for animation or its looksSome addons in flashpoint were so darn good looking compared to models in other games that used pro applications. Must admit animations needed more supprt.
Quote[/b] ]On the update part, I get the impression of Spetznaz, Duke Forever or games "always in the update-developement-improvement" stage that never see the daylight. I understand that BIS has a need to reach perfection but in the game industry 5 years is too damn long. In such a fast paced progress, I'll see a 7800 cards or X2 CPUs in phones in two yearsBIS have been very busy bunnies of recent years and also making games is a very time consuming buisness. I personally dont care how long it takes for them to release the game as i know its gonna be something special when its complete.
-
Im guessing its gonna be the same as any streaming technology (video, music etc) its just gonna constantly stream the map out instead of loading it all up at once and keeping it in memory. Im also guessing that this will improve multiplaying no ends as streaming technology reduces bandwidth usage hence why i think bis are now saying 60 players. Looking forward to seeing a demo of it, fingers crossed they may release one before the release date.
-
Great work BIS, looking forward to when this game is released and i know its gonna be a corker.

Not in it for the money mate, as long as my morgage is paid and i have food in my belly im a happy chappie.

Just try using google to search for textures, or type free textures and you will find loads of high res textures that you can use
-
Cheers guys. Have a few models to add to my portfolio from flashpoint models im currently making, will have to make loads more tho, just havent had the time due to textures and real life stuff. Taken all your kind words onboard tho guys. Thx very much

Thanks for the info guys, really appreciate the help. How did you get the work experiance set up? did you do the course or just contacted the company for a possition within the company?
Also what sort of work would be needed? as ive seen some highly detailed models knocking around on various sites (100000's of polys) and wondered if i have to produce models like that for companies to take note.
As for the headhunting side, it does sound good, but still quite a few highly skilled modellers in communities that dont have the luck of people finding them. Sorta hit and miss.

Thanks for your reply. Would be nice if i was a single man but my partner would find it hard to move from her current job. Looking more into a place within the UK (London area) for training.

Just a quick post to say sorry for the current downtime of our forums (if you have tried to enter them) Hopefully they will be back up ASAP.

Since being a young lad of 8 years old i have been a major game player. Â From the spectrum days (waiting 30 mins for a game to load, then it crashes right at the end) through to the Xbox and playstations of today, i have never lost interest. Â
Im now 27 and really keen on starting a career in the computer game industry within the field of 3d models. Â Only problem is where to start? Â I've been looking at courses, but most are only 5 week courses which are about 20 hours in total and thats only learning the basics of 3d max. Â Are there any schools/college/univercitys in the UK (london) that offer a course that will lead onto a Job making 3d models for the purpose of games?
Anyone here in the industry that can give me tips on how i can get onto the ladder? Â
p.s
Any websites with info concerning what i have posted here is also welcome.

NETCODE NETCODE NETCODE! Deffo need this sorted as its practically the most frustrating part of Flashpoint that really let it down. Be nice to play (as big red said) a 20 v 20 game with no lag what so ever. Specially as now the normal connection speed has increased so much over the past 4 years.

Been mixed reviews from different mags. There is a topic somewhere quoting the scores the game has recieved so far. It has to be said alot of console games are soley based on how good they look and not on how they play. I havent played many console games tho that have lasted me a week, let alone 4 + years. There has been good things that have came out of BIS making this game for xbox so it hasnt been a waste of time.

It's simply a farce....I still am in disbelief that the US people voted him in again.
At least in the UK the labour party's record has been fairly decent apart from the massive fuckup of Iraq. They have done some positive stuff to the system.
However Bush's resume is just funny. This person really cannot be in control of the world's most powerful nuclear arsenal can he?
..... Â

He is in control isn't he .....
Someone please assasinate this pelican.
My views exactly and im quite sure that 99.9 percent of the world feel the same. Â I have spoke to many educated Americans on my travels around the world and their opinion was utter disbelieve and blamed it on either the uneducated or the fanatical christian side of America. Â Its quite a scarey thing to put everything in perpective now and realise that anything can happen with Bush waging war on anyone that does something that he doesnt like (even tho he is probs doing it himself)
Politics are a sham in every country now and maybe its time we as a society find another system that actually works. Maybe a system that actually listens to the people, as we are the ones that work hard (giving our time, blood, sweat and  life) and pay into the state for it to work for us. Â

Peace out

Thanks for your kind words guys. Very exciting for us to be making these addons and we really cant wait to get them all finished and move on to the next lot of projects we are currently or will be making.
Just like to thank our advisors, beta testers and also the guys who have gathered all our ref images, so we can actually make addons as real to life as possible.

Racial Violence Continues in Australia

You could say everyone in most countries are immigrants as from the past i bet most of us have come from a different country. Â As for Sunday + hot weather + beer + nothing better to do = trouble that is not entirely true as it would happen most days if that was the case. Â
Im gonna sound a bit politically incorrect but some people dont belong in certain countries. Â We all have our own cultures, religions, views, and upbringings and there will always be problems with other people not either understanding or not liking these things. Â I've travelled the world and have found out first hand that some places i would fit in perfectly with the people and some places i wouldnt. Â
I am gonna take it one step further and say that in England we have a major problem with immigrants and you know that when a murder, rape, drug crime etc has happened you will mostly now see it as a immigrant being involved. Â Just check UK's most wanted list and see what percentage are of English national. Â Im not stating that all immigrants are here to commit crime (i know a few people that have moved here due to unfortunate circumstances) but when you constantly hear crimes being commited by immigrants it gets everyones back up and will create a tension between people. Â I think we will always see racial tensions, as its just one of those things that has happened for generations and always will happen untill we speak the same language, believe in the same god and are taught the same morals etc etc etc.
