Legaity is a hard term to define, depending on whether one is objective or subjective, what people's motives are, etc, etc. As far I'm concerned the Uk and US did not get support from the Un to attack iraq because they were meant to have WOMD. We shall see in the next few months which camp was right.

The attack by the coalition force makes ordinary iraqis volonteer for the army and Baath-party. The reason for this is that even though most iraqis hate Saddam the collective hate of an invasion force in their homeland is considered as a greater evil. <span id='postcolor'> If someone illegally attacks your country your gonna fight back, maybe not everyone, but I'm sure a large amount of people will do. War isn't solely about figures, statistics, and scenarios, passion, emotion and feelings play a huge role in determination and resolve, which leads to victory or defeat.

Apparently Baghdad has over 5 million people living there (London is about 6-7 miliion people), the coaliton invaders are going to need reinforcements if they wish to take baghdad, especially if the resisitance from the Iraq side continues like it is, or if it intensifies.

Al Kut seems a strategic point, is there any news on whther the Iraqis are still in possession of that city? Thanks for the map Denoir, that website I recommended has some good resources, especially the ethnic regions and terrain makeup.

http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps....003.jpg Man Baghdad is pretty complex in some places, could get hairy in there.

And actually, it was the British Govt. (customs) that intercepted the last few sections of the super gun's barrel, which was being shipped under the cover of oilfield piping. Of course, oilfield pipes don't taper lol. That, and the man who was designing it for Iraq was knocked off courtesy of the Mossad.<span id='postcolor'> Matrix-churchill were given the go-ahead by the British government, from what I read and heard when the Scott report got published. Just those slimey consevatives got away with it. Anyway, the Brits are experts at selling arms. O.K it wasn't finished, but I'm imagining that it would be. As to Baghdad, what would you do if you were in the Iraqi army, how would you defend?

Well seeing as were fighting a toucy-feely war in some respects it's gonna be tricky, so no comparison to tactics in Berlin in 1945 can be made. Its heavily civilianised, so as we have seen civilian casulaties are a touchy subject, so that will be a big problem Could split the city up into quadrents and do it that way? Securing areas step by step. But you have the problem of counter-attack, civilan's used as human shields, etc, etc We've seen what happened in Israel with the street fighting that has taken place, especially the church of the nativity incident.

'US President George W Bush has complained directly to his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, that Russian companies have been selling military equipment to Iraq in breach of UN sanctions. The White House says it has "credible evidence" that Russian companies had sold military equipment such as satellite-jamming devices, anti-tank missiles and night-vision goggles to Iraq, despite Russian denials. In a phone conversation with Mr Bush, the Russian president said he would look into the allegations immediately, White House spokesman Ari Fleischer said. Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov denied the claims, saying that relevant agencies had investigated the allegations and found them unwarranted. "Russia strictly fulfils all its international obligations and has not supplied any equipment, including military, to Iraq in violation of the sanctions regime," he said. Relations strain On Sunday the Washington Post newspaper reported, citing sources within the Bush administration, that one Russian company was aiding the Iraqi regime in efforts to jam satellite signals that could guide bombs and military aircraft used by the US-led coalition. A further two companies, it said, had sold night-vision goggles and anti-tank missiles to the regime in contravention of United Nations sanctions. Officials within the Bush administration have long been frustrated by Russia's perceived failure to crack down on arms sales to countries the US considers sponsors of terrorism. However a Russian deputy, Andrei Kokoshin, suggested that Iraq could have obtained Soviet-era weapons through a former Soviet republic such as the Ukraine, Russia's Interfax news agency quoted him as saying. BBC Washington correspondent Rob Watson says the incident could worsen relations between the two countries, already soured by Russia's continuing opposition to the war in Iraq./ Hmmm, like calling the keetle black. Like us British, who sold the Iraqis a super-gun. Yeah, anyone else remember the supergun. Surely, that would have been taken out if Iraq had one.

Yeah, the Patriot is dodgy, remmebr a few years nack seeing an indepth documentary about it, how the report they presented to the committe reporting on their effectivity was 'enhanced' in certain respects. Do big business, who is involved in the military contracting, and the financial stakes all play a part in what weapons are bought and re-commisioned?

Anyone else know if they have bothered to offer anything, fuel truck, jeep, plane, bullet... anything? (hint of sarcasm creeping in)?

Agree with you Denoir, shame that according to the polls in Britain that support for the war has grown. Some people have no spine when it comes to opposing something. But polls are not to be trusted, who carries them out, how many people asked, what age, where was it conducted, what question is asked, etc, etc.

</span><table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="3" cellspacing="1"><tr><td>Quote </td></tr><tr><td id="QUOTE">As for the FF incidents, shit happens when the plane is flying without transponder signals. Its also a WAR, by definition it is not pretty, people are going to die. Since these patriot batteries and planes are being operated by human beings, there is room for error. It is unfortunate, but that is the price you pay when you are fighting in a very faced paced Air-Ground War.<span id='postcolor'> Still I assure you british people are really not impressed by Americans shooting down British planes again, I agree friendly fire does happen.

Agree with pitviper, war is bloody, dirty and will involve death, soldiers are trained to kill other human beings, armies are used as a weapon of violence against other human beings. Though I don't support this action that is going on in Iraq, I do belive warfare should not be bogged down in nicities and media-spin.

'*turns civility regulator to maximum power* 1) Â The plan all along was to capture objectives and leave Royal Marines behind to hold them. Â Leaving a MEU(SOC) in Umm Qasr to mop up a handful of die-hards is like swatting flies with a Buick. 2) Â When we leave an objective it's because the fight's over, or we're needed somewhere else. Â If you think 10 KIA makes a difference to us, all I can say is that you have a poor grasp of our history and absolutely no understanding of the Marine mindset (whether that's a good thing or not I'll leave to you). Â We lose that many a month in peacetime to traffic accidents. Â Semper Fi ' You have to look at it from my point of view, as a British Citizen, trying to get a picture through various media resources. Â My father served and fought in the RAF Regiment for 20+ years, and agrees that our boys have been left to do the dirty work your boys have perhaps given up on trying to accomplish. The additional shooting down of one of our air craft by your forces, also doesn't bode well, and the reports that an ITN reporter was killed by US friendly fire is not helpful. I'm not trying to be vicious or nasty, just a bit tired of these repeat blunders by American forces, and poor old Brit having to go in and do the bloody house to house fighting. Â Maybe some of our boys should take the American forces into Um Qasr to give them a turorial on how it is meant to be done? 'Come on, is firing Nuclear Depleted Uranium shells against the Geneva convention? perhaps you could tell me where it is. Â and, just in case you are ignorant, DU are not nuclear weapons.' It has been omitted that Depleted Uranium shells are being used, and if they aren't banned, maybe perhaps they should be?

I don't mean intentionally shell civilian areas, I mean shell areas with a bit more gusto than they have now. Make sure that they have taken control of cities like Um Qasr rather than going around them and continuing north. But I do stand by my earlier point, war is a bloody business, and why people are so surprised that British and American troops are being killed is beyond me. Maybe the population and meia have lulled themselves into a childish naivety?

The Chinooks or whatever they would use would get shot to shit most likely, if the Iraqis have some adequate air defences. Also, Bagdhad is a big city, lets not underestimate its scale and complexity of passages and streets. What would the recon info be like for these troops to get about in the city, reaction from the civilain popukation is they were spotted plays a part as well. They would never do an air dop too ricky for the Coalition forces, too many casulaties potentially. If they were fighting a proper war, unlike this illegal political exericse they are carrying out, where they flatten areas of resistance ruthlessly, then things would have gone more smoothly than they have. For me, war is war, no point trying to run it like a charity event!
