  1. That's all fine, but Jewish law only provides rights to Jewish citizens. Palestinians born in Israel have a fraction of the rights of Jewish Israelis. Until they're afforded some voice in government, like minorities in every other western state, until Israel is done with their own apartheid, there will be no peace in the middle east.

  2. Put a tarp over the chopper? I mean, the animation could be to add the shape of a helicopter covered with some sort of tent to protect it from weather... That way, you have one animation that would work okay, vs having one animation that works okay for one chopper.

  3. multiplay has taken off for me with ACE. even in the first days of arma and even OFP has multiplay/singleplayer/map making never been so enjoyable. and a download that's less than 700GB - that's pretty reasonable if a little small for my taste.

fantastic mod. sure it needs tweaks but really this is something else! and the devs care so much about it that it's refreshing.

love the limitations (weight/stamina/damage/etc) as much as the other features. it forces tactical thinking and teamwork. just what i am looking for...

the coming tweaks should be great.

I echo the hope that other great mods can be made 'compatible' with ACE so combining them makes arma the modular/integrated combat system it could be.

Cheers mate, im glad we were able to achieve this with the Beta!

    Other mod & mission compatibilities:

[*] Should use the well spread and used "XEH" Extended EventHandlers systems. (Many use vanilla eventhandlers which breaks their addon with everyone elses biggrin_o.gif)

[*] Should use the S_Hole XDEH (Extended Display EventHandlers)

[*] Should not relink/break the ArmA default class inheritance tree (many Islands, but especially Sound Mods, do)

    So basically we don't have to be compatible to others, and others don't have to be compatible to us;

All of us should simply be compatible with XEH+XDEH+Non Broken Override Configs, and we will simply be all compatible with eachother biggrin_o.gif

The only issue of course is when there are 2 same kind features in 2 seperate mods. You will have to make a choice by disabling or removing one smile_o.gif

Maybe we should maintain a list of Addons that are XEH/XDEH compatible and thus also compatible with us?

Incl overlapping features etc. But I believe this is a job for the Community  thumbs-up.gif

All the aircraft I have converted from Ofp are XEH but what is XDH and where can I read up on it becuase I've not heard of this before.

Compatible aicraft at the moment are:

    F-35

    F-111

    Su-27

    Mig-29

    Mirage 2000

    F-14

    Eurofighter

    Su-47

    Southy

The KA-52 is also completely compatible, and is great to use in ACE. Unfortunately, the Mi-24's aren't set up for XEH. sad_o.gif

  4. I tend to agree with g-c, Arma can chew my processor to pieces sometimes, but I'm able to run Crysis on high and Supreme Commander at max settings, and these were designed to take advantage of multiple cores. And I do NOT have a nice processor, it's a dual core celeron D, but it is better for Crysis and SupCom than a high end single core CPU.

  5. For what it's worth, my little brother and I play Arma online since he lives in a different state. I have enough trouble trying to explain mod-folders to him as it is over the phone, and having a simple unified installation for the ACE mod has made playing with him easy (It's even got a shortcut for 1.15 "out of the box!"). We're not all computer whizzes, and while most of us have broadband and a spare hour to download a large mod, not everybody would be able to wrap our heads around another layer of complexity like downloading addon-modules for an addon-mod.

  6. A last word from me concerning the "throttle" for aircrafts.

Please give us, who fly with joystick, the old OFP throttle control back!

Again a small video that shows how precise the OFP throttle/brake system was, here the "brakes":

    http://lee.plankton.ch/OFP_throttle.wmv (right click save as...)

    = <- 100% Thrust

    -

    -  <- 50% Thrust

    -

    = <- Deadzone

    -

    -  <- 50% Brake

    -

    = <- 100% Brake

    Please no more:

    = <- 100% Thrust

    = <- 0% Deadzone

    = <- 100% Brake

    -----

I really hope to see this in the next/last patch for Armed Assault.

    Happy New Year everyone!

    MfG Lee wink_o.gif

I can't stress the need for this fix enough, there isn't another game where I can fly air support for other players who are hunkered down on the ground like in Arma or OFP. There's been a lot of evolution of the aircraft controls in Arma since 1.0, and all of them have been tremendous and awesome. Having a working throttle again would be the final icing on the cake!

  7. Fun just doesn't stop, I installed the windows XP with SP3 slipstreamed onto the disc, and when I got to the windows screen post installation, it asked me for a password. On a freshly formatted system, with completely default settings. I've never set a password, so I can't log in to my PC to get everything set up. I'm using windows XP professional, is there some kind of default admin password I should know about?

    Thanks again,

    -Gabe-

  8. I'm checking out nlite right now, it looks promising. The copy I've got of XP is an old version from an even older raytheon computer, so I suspected it wasn't playing nice with my video card. I'm not sure how I forced it to install correctly last time, I just remember a long weekend of BIOS updates and rollbacks, and pulling out a lot of hair!

I'm going to try the other XP disc with SP2 first, as it's not installed anywhere else (All the PC's are on Vista at the folks' house). Worst case scenario, I can't activate it, and then I'm using nlite to create a disc with SP3 on it. Thanks for the quick response!

  9. Okay, here's my problem. I've had a couple of errors with a re-format of my gaming PC, first, I was trying to install XP with no service packs on the PC, which has a PCI-E video card. It gave me a blue screen at the windows installer, for an error with PCI.sys.

I did some reading, found out you have to have XP with SP2 to install on a computer with a PCI-E video card. Thing is, I've always only had XP with SP1, and I got it installed last time I did a reformat (I've got a couple of XP discs, one with SP1 and one without). The copy with SP1 freezes up when I get to the GUI installer, at the Installing Devices phase, with 35 minutes remaining. I've taken everything but my HDD, video card, DVD, and RAM out of the PC and still get the error, so it's not a busted component. I'm going to get XP with SP2 from a relative today, but if that doesn't fix it, am I looking at a bad Motherboard or processor?

Intel Pentium Celeron D dual core 800mhz fsb 3.0 ghz

    Intel DP965LT Mobo

    BFG 8800GTX OC 768MB

    Creative SB Fatal1ty Extremegamer

    WD 150GB 7200 RPM HDD

30 dollar DVD-RW drive from Newegg

    Antec 650W PSU

I'm going to be shipping out for WTC and MOS school for the army again in January, I'm trying to get this PC up and running again for my wife (And hopefully, ACE and some FDF before I go) to have a nicer PC while I'm gone. So, any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,

    -Gabe-

  10. Active and Passive IR both work the same way, by picking up reflected IR light in the environment. The only difference between a passive and active system is that an active system provides some of its own IR light, either because not enough exists in the environment, or the IR sensor doesn't have the power to make out anything without the extra light.

Here's an M-577 command vehicle. The black set of headlights are IR Bulbs, called "Black Light Markers." If there's not enough ambient IR light to drive safely at night with NVGs, you can turn those on, and they work like headlights you can only see through night vision goggles. You would then be using "active IR" to drive safely. All IR systems are passive, the only difference is using those bulbs, either for lack of ambient light, or because old soviet IR sensors weren't as advanced as US sensors.

    M577_USA_20.jpg

It doesn't matter if you're talking about IR light from a vehicles headlamps or from the stars, though. A heavily starched uniform looks shiny through NVGs because the starch reflects IR light like tinfoil reflects visible spectrum light. There may be other metals in the fabric that have an effect on their visibility on IR light, but the main reason the Army stopped starching uniforms was it makes you shiny in IR.

  11. I wasn't aware that the new camo disrupted IR in any way. I know with the BDUs, soldiers were required to keep them pressed and ironed, which required copious amounts of spray-on starch. I do know that the built-up starch on the uniforms would reflect IR. Soldiers and Marines aren't required to starch and press the Marpat or ACU uniforms, maybe that's what you mean by disrupting IR?

I should also note that by IR, you're basically talking about the IR headlamps on a vehicle, not some kind of Splinter Cell-esque thermal scanner. If you look at an armored vehicle, there's little purple headlights, those are black light markers, used for illuminating the road at night when driving with NVG's.

  12. Again, I've never noticed it, not for the BTR-70 or Linker Split's tropic island (Which he did paste part of an email from EA giving him permission to use the models).

And yeah, there is some learning involved in importing weapon models. He could learn how to config, do basic edits to create a muzzle flash, retex, I learned what little I know about 3d models by ripping apart others' work.

  13. I don't remember anybody giving Linker Split this kind of hard time, and he used vegetation models and textures imported from Crysis! Maybe you guys should lighten up a bit here. Not everybody has the time to make complicated 3d models and all their associated maps. It's great that some people do, but there's no reason to discourage somebody from what's essentially their learning project.

The team that made Stalker has been okay with others using their models for educational use, as long as they don't make money from the work.

I say keep on, I don't know how to config, or set up muzzle points or anything in O2, so if this helps you learn, by all means continue!

  14. When I was in before, a lot of our Germany maps had red information on them, and you couldn't see it with a red filter. So if you needed to look at them in the dark, you could use green, and still make out woods well enough. Fortunately for me, I was in a TOC that was completely blacked out most of the time, so we had normal lights, even in the field.

I think the best answer is the first one, the red filter is much less visible at night, especially from a distance. Makes you less likely to give away your position.

  15. A lot of people claim to be strict individualists, as long as their individual rights aren't the ones being trampled upon. Yeah, there would still be segregation in parts of the south if the US operated on your model. I submit that an individualist values their own freedom, but also to be a true individualist you must also value the freedoms of others. Part of freedom is freedom from the tyranny of the majority. Put yourself in a minority position, and think about how your views affect others for a minute.

The American tradition has always been a shift in ideals to further value individual liberty. Any race or sex can have any job, and given enough time, any person will be able to enjoy a relationship with any other person, regardless of sex or race and take that relationship as far as they want.

    And now, religion and government:

If you want to know about it in regards to the Constitution, I'd ask the gentlemen who wrote it.

"Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between man & his god, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legitimate powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, thus building a wall of separation between church and state." -Thomas Jefferson

To truly value freedom, you can't allow the government to make laws at any level that restrict the rights of others based on your own religious beliefs. I think this guy said it the best:

"...it will be in the sincere practice of what is good in their own religious traditions and by following the dictates of their own conscience that the members of other religions respond positively to God's invitation and receive salvation in Jesus Christ, even while they do not recognize or acknowledge him as their Saviour." -Pope John Paul II Sep 1998 vatican.va

So, according to the head of the largest sect of Christianity, if you live a good, just life, you receive God's invitation. Turning a blind eye to injustice and inequality, and allowing the freedoms of others to be trampled on or denied because they offend your religious sensibilities is not living a just life. You can be individualistic and also realize that no man exists in a vacuum apart from other men.

If your will is to strip or deny others of their freedoms, either by religious or economic injustice, then YES, the government should restrict your will, to make sure EVERYBODY enjoys freedom, not just the majority, whether they're white, christian, Muslim, male, female, gay, straight, Zoroastrian, or anything I haven't mentioned.
