ARMA 2 In-game HD Video released

And now for something completely different: MY in depth analyze of the trailer.jk... Wow, dogs! Forget the AI, we have dogs! And yeah, while working on those HALO anims, please take look at MODUL's work;) Now, seriously about the trailer: Although not being breathtaking, it looks good, feels more ofp-ish (contains dogs), it's in HD, and makes me want to play the game right now. Oh, and yes, there are the dogs. ps The dogs will be included in the final product.

Petition for more Realism in Arma2

Well, I'm a realist, and I don't believe all the things mentioned here will happen...nevertheless I must admit that every single time I see a car being blown up like that or something as minor and yet annoyingly unrealistic I'm like...omg, c'mon, it's perfectly doable, and it still isn't in the game.
  3. A summary of what I have to say before ArmA2 is relased. Slow the action down. Either by mission design or the default AI. It's not a feature that needs lots of work. In fact it's about increasing the priority of seeking cover and staying covered, and lowering the priority of getting from one waypoint to another, and increasing the time between moving from one waypoint to another. In addition to realistic engagement ranges it leads to slower gameplay, but in spite of that - more shooting, and suppressive fire use from both fighting sides. It's more or less about achieving the same thing truerange combined with second's suppression scripts offer. AI in all modes apart from safe, after getting to a waypoint should stop for a while in order to scan the surroundings. Time should depend on the suppression level and current mode.
  4. Fallen vegetation not blocking AI's vision, and strange behaviour of wheeled vehicles'. Imho, they should really reconsider the vehicles' in ArmA2. That's not adding features, but revising the existing ones. MBT's should be the ultimate killing machines on the battlefield, not jumping, easy to take down, wriggling, rc cars. That probably due to the AI of drivers. Moreover, default engagement ranges should be much bigger than the ones from ArmA, tanks rushing into action at full speed, colliding with objects and eachother is something really funny to look at. On the other hand, mission makers should avoid throwing MBT's randomly into missions just to increase the difficulty.

    Game 2 is dead?

Or, if you want, game2 is ArmA2 and always was, but some stuff that was planned isn't going to be implemented. Maybe in ArmA 3... C'mon, where were you man?
  8. Wow, really good job guys! Can't wait for the next part.

    falcon game controller

You have probably already heard about the novin's falcon controller, the funny looking thing that tries to replace your mouse or joystick, and "lets you experience true virtual touch unlike any controller in history ". Whatever, here's their site if you want more details. They added a pistol grip to the device, and guess what, ofp is on the soon-to-be-supported list. In the vid, the guy says "operation flashpoint", and the cover of CWC is shown, however, it's in the "highly anticipated" games list, together with left4dead, and it's hard to say if it's really gonna be CWC or ofp2...

Trailer - Max Payne the Movie

Speaking of whitch...just kidding, I'm not going to spoil this topic about Max Payne the Movie with comments about the guy who was hitman in the hitman movie. Comments such as, he wasn't bad, but he sucked anyway, and Sthatham would be 100000000000k times better. I won't. I just hope Max Payne will be a "decent movie", and we'll se more decent movies based on games in the future...and that Uwe Boll will die soon.

    ArmA 2 vs OFP 2

To me, ofp2 will look better, simply because CM have more money, ppl etc. to work on details like anims, special effects, little gfx features etc. I think it's safe to say that it'll be more hollywoodish than ArmA2, no matter what, and it'll attract ppl playing RS:Vegas too. BIS games, are quite spartan when it comes to little eye-candy details, but that's not so important when it comes to war sims. ArmA2 will be an improoved ofp/ArmA, and with every title they're adding more, and more of those little things and upgrade the others, but it just can't win with the large ammount of eye-candy ofp2 will bring. (by eye-candy I mean also things important from the other points of view such as enter/exit anims for vehicles etc.) We still haven't seen the ofp2's AI, and we all know that even without mods BIS' AI can kick your ass. On the other hand, CM might create AI that looks like it was smarter (not to mention it will be decent anyway), and the tactical, yet quite clumsy AI from ArmA won't be enough this time. The overall mood, story and missions will also have a big impact, and again, the Call Of Duty-like atmosphere might work well on the contrary to ArmA's not-that-good campaign. BIS' atut, however, is now the Razor team, so it's still hard to say wo will win. When it comes to realism, ArmA2 is on a pool position. Ofp2 however, might win with the visual kind of realism, or "better this than nothing" kind of realism. Animations, targeting systems etc. - you know what I mean. When it comes to me, I'm going to buy ArmA2, and I'll certainly try ofp2. Two good games are always better than one, and I don't see a reason to buy just one of them.

    falcon game controller

Depends from the FOV. Track-ir and wiimote have better fov than webcams I suppose. The distance shouldn't be a problem if you turn off the axis (Z?) responsible for zooming in and out. When it comes to wiimote there shouldn't be any problems with the distance either as you can sit/stand in front of your tv.
  13. My mic is wasted, so here goes the question: Could you tell us something about the vehicles' targeting systems, fire computers, countermeasures etc. in ArmA2? Thanks

    falcon game controller

Don't get me wrong, but imho you've chosen the worst possible scenario. The wiimote, or track ir/freetrack based system would be much more efficient and easier to do. You have a webcam at the top of your screen, then you attach a single LED at the end of bb gun's barrel. Webcam reads the LED's light, just like track-ir, and you can aim. Now you need a spare mouse you could smash and somehow place the RMB behind the trigger and you're ready to go. More or less like the lasershot.
  15. funnyguy1

How will the "border" be generated?

Something must prevent players from wandering too far from the main map, right? I think sharks with lasers in the sea and hungry Sasquatches in the forests will do the trick.

    falcon game controller

Homemade lasershot? People are making miracles with wii controllers, so a gas powered ASG with blowback, few of those little wii thingies or freetrack, a large screen and lot of free time would probably be enough to create something like that. edit: in fact, just one LED at the end of the barrel would be enough (?).

    falcon game controller

Of course it's less accurate, it has a bloody recoil after all! And that's exactly why it's cooler than a mouse. Besides, we're talking about ofp/arma/ofp2 here, not a CS-like fast-paced shoters. It's obvious nobody would take it to a CS lan party, cause I would suck compared to a mouse, especially in the hands of a 13year old CS addict. (My little bro plays it, so I have a chance to play against guys in his age from time to time, and I know from my own experience that they're pretty buletproof compared to me).

    Flight Sims X/2004/lockon etc..

Gues who got back to flying... Nah, I've never was a great pilot, I have FSX, but just recently started to learn things. I don't need 80% of the boring tutorials though, as I had learnt quite a lot doing things myself before, and in other games. And I love aircrafts, so some things are just obvious to me. Good idea with the article Ingram. I'm not familiar with the FS part of the internet, so it'll be a great start for ppl like me!

    falcon game controller

Well, it's a game controller, so you can shoot whatever you want, or fight with a light saber, I don't know why this should be a pistol-only thing. Check out the half life 2 vid. And it is going to be supported either in ofp or ofp2. That's why I brought that up. At first, I didn't want to start the "will it work" debate, but I really don't understand those who say it's worst or better than a mouse, without even trying it. I mean, that was my first thought too, but if you think about it, a mouse isn't that good either when it comes to shooting, not to mention simulating anything...
  20. Oh wait, one more reason - because i'm worth it...
  21. Because it'll be the next gen of the most ass-kicking war sim. *better AI *coop campaign *interaction with civilians *etc.
  22. Well, have you seen any other fps games that simulated battlefield on such a big scale? R6, GR, yeah, they're nice, but come on, they aren't even close in the terms of size. I think BIS pretty much rules when it comes to fps war sims, as ArmA is the only fps war sim out there. And even though it was designed to be an ofp 1.5 it brought an enormous number of improovements! When I first heard about it being just a 1.5 thing, I though I'll get another Resistance (which wouldn't be that bad). It was a whole new game! (the campaign sucked though) Now, since ArmA 2 will also be the only true sim on the market they can even say it's the "Super Ultimate Military Simulator" or "Military Simulation Fresh Maker", whatever. They're right. When it comes to ofp2...we'll see.

    GC 2008 Press Coverage

Good point, but the grass lenght is actually pretty important, as 70% of the time playing the game you'll spend hiding in it... So, it is important!...it really is!
