  1. edit: Final 1.01 patch is out and ready for download edit: Remember! All you see/read in this thread comes from the German relase only. The game has been already patched to version 1.01. It's not relased worldwide yet. edit: An old news, but in case someone missed it. Maruk posted here Please post your impressions here in an organized way. 1. Post your PC specs! 2. Post your language/version/patch! 3. Clearly state whether you actually have the game, or just heard/read somewhere about the thing you're posting! 4. Please allow ppl who actually played the game to post their thoughts, don't spam. 5. Edit your previous posts if the issue you were talking about is already resolved (add the solution to your first post for the ppl who read the thread for the first time). edit: Final 1.0.1 patch is out. Download @ http://http://www.arma2.com/support/updates/folder.html?lang=de Here's what user MadDogX wrote about the previous (beta) version of the patch: edit: Here are my fav. movies/reviews: 1. For ppl who complain about the AI. "Arma 2 AI Awareness Experiment" by sincover47 - AI desn't cheat. It in fact does suppress player based on where it "saw/heard" you. Really good vid. A must-see - as author says. It's an urban legend. ArmA/ArmA 2 AI won't spot you through a bush if you just stay there and don't move. It'll fire through it though if you have been seen hiding in it, or heard."Arma2 AI smoke block test" by acog99 - nope, it doesn't see through smoke. - Just "wow". I'm impressed. - shows raction time/accuracy and ROF - AI do surrender, you need a game logic for that. - ROF, engagement range etc. Really nice! - it really does suppress you;)Vehicles: "ArmA 2 - AI Flight Patterns - Part 2" by JohnnyBoy755 - placing planes on the wrong side of the runway [left one?] results in strange taxi behaviour. Also C130 needs some tweaking;) Gameplay/Immerssion: - never gets old - epic clip - Another "wow!" here. You really need to see this. - ArmA 2 lookin' really good... - Another "wow"! - playable rabbit funMods (yeah, that's right! Just in case you missed it): No motion blur/bloom mod by Kegetys - - ArmA2 gone WW2 already

    Stuck on first mission

1st mission: Escorting hostages, both the doctor and his girllfriend stop 30m from the hut and stand still, nothing happens after "follow me" "stay here"/"follow me" etc. Also if I blow up the radio thingy the hostage rescue objective is cancelled. 3rd time I'm trying to get them to this damn hut and I get the same results every time... First with 1.02, then replayed the whole mission with 1.03.

    ArmA2 finally in Poland!

How's the translation? Is it bearable? Can you switch between english/polish or polish with subs? If it's f*cked up as usual, and it's the only choice you have I'm going to dl it from steam or something...

    Widescreen / Multi-monitor set up

Kinda ot, but there's no better topic to ask. Has anyone tried ArmA 2 with 3d Vision yet? I might consider purchasing it just for ArmA 2.

    Jan Prazak's Videos

They really need to show ppl how powerful the editor is. The first editing vid was nice (just like the whole idea of making this tutorial vids), it just isn't as stunning as the editing capabilities, especially to a casual gamer.
  7. Played the demo and I'm amazed. It's worth the money just for the graphical update, not to mention the gameplay and AI improovements! Shame it's not in Poland yet...

    JTD Tracker Dog

Mindblowing! Suggestions: Fist of all sounds, as other suggested "go go go" or something like that (I don't know do what you usually say to a dog, since I don't have one) while relasing the dog, and a whistle to call it back. The dog also should be able to bark in order to report enemys. I'd suggest making an AI-only version of the dog, that searches the nearest enemy units. The animal should move at full speed being far away from the enemy, and slow down the closer it gets. Also, the spotting abilities should be limitted, and some randomness, or additional waypoints should be implemented so that it didn't run straight towards the target. Maybe some sort of 2/3 sec random interruption of the search. edit: Doesn't a dog see in bw only? Give it some sort of FLIR. Realism ftw! Just kidding, it'll be good because it'll be harder to spot targets on larger distances, and would help during the night.
  9. I've just contacted LEM (the Polish publisher), and they said that they probably won't publish the game this month. It depends on how fast BIS'll send them the game.
  10. We know exactly what little red barrels do. They do a barrelroll. And no, BIS was too lazy to implement red barrels that actually explode. Or maybe it's a bug and will be fixed later? Who knows.
  11. Chceck the first page of this thread from time to time. I'm gathering cool vids from most threads and posting it there. I posted this as soon as I could to show ppl how the AI really works.
  12. My idea: imagine a game mode where you're some sort of a small animal, e.g. a chicken. Now, the area is limited to let's say one small town. One player starts as the prey, the others seek and destroy. The prey gets poins for staying alive and (later) slaying the hunters, the hunters must kill the pray, optionally can engage each other. At the beginning, the chicken is harmless and vulnerable. The only thing you need to do is to survive the first round. The second round means you can either spawn another chicken (killing the fake one results in dying or spawning 2 more) or gain the ability to place mines. Next round - either knive or charges + detonator Next one - you can spawn a kamikaze cow (targets the nearest hunter, approaches him and blows up) Next one - "insert your idea here" The final round - chicken has the ability to kill the hunters with a rifle or something equally powerfull. The end. The killer becomes the prey. Rounds should be short to be enjoyable. You gain the points through all the rounds. Optionally there are three chickens, one fake and 2 playable. Two playable chickens have to eliminate each other during the game. Killing the fake one results in a death:) Background music: short an annoying banjo loop.

Does camouflage actually work against the AI?

I remember seeing a camuflage value in the config. e.g. spec ops units were harder to spot in ArmA. Right? Cause it was Ppl just need to stop complaining about the AI being too accurate, seeing through the foliage, knowing exactly where the player is from 1000 m. It's just bs and bunch of myths. Just learn to be more carefull and play less BF-ish. The camuflage value is there, so what. It doesn't mean that when playing as a sniper you're invisible, or 50% less visible.
  14. If you're making a mission, and you need game logic X you place it in the editor. If you don need it you don't have to switch anything off, you just don't use that game logic. It's 100000000(.....)000 times easier than in ofp/ArmA. It's an advantage for missionmakers. And if you're new to OFP/ArmA/ArmA2 I tell you, the number of missions, addons and mods for BIS games is so big that my brain hurts when I try to thing about just the half of it.

    FP : DR - News & Discussion

It's being obviously showcased on a console. Isn't it just a matter of it being somehow dumbed down just for consoles? I'm a PC-only player, so I don't know, but it seems that every preview for console I saw was actually "worst" than the pc version in terms of AI. Also the player's survivability seems to be always increased on consoles. It's a matter of the controler, right? So, untill we see OFP:DR demoed on a PC it's hard to say how it'll look.
  16. First of all it's relased, or will be relased soon where you live. 2. All you see in the previews/videos/screens etc. buggy or not is 100% real and ingame in comparison to Codemaster's photoshoped/CGI artworks. 3. ArmA is a well known brand in the gaming industry. Best AI, great island, quite good realism, and what's most important enormous modding capabilities, and a great community. Ppl still play/make mods for OFP, not to mention ArmA. You buy one of this games, you play for ages. There are realism/ww1/ww2/sci-fi/vietnam/iraq/afghanistan mods etc. 4. It's basically an evolution of OFP (which was BIS product from the beginning, now CM have only the name). If you liked either OFP/OFP:RES/ARMA you'll enjoy ArmA 2. That's for sure. 5. BI supports their games years after the relase. When it comes to CM, it looks like (And I'm not even taking into consideration the lie about them being the creators of OFP.) a large percent of what they're telling/showing you aboyt the actual is just a lie. Even if I'm not right and the'll manage to bring something remotely comparable to ArmA 2 (And it would be cool, cause we would have 2 good games instead of just one), well...it's a matter of future.

ArmA II silly ideas and ways to play the game :P

Place as many cows as possible in the editor, then make them run in your direction. With you in the middle of it, play the "Whenever, Wherever" song by Shakira. I know that's silly, but I'd really, really would like to see that...

    ARMA 2 Micro AI Thread

@the first vid: Wow, congratz. You just found a bug. @the second one: wtf? what's wrong is the way you play the mission... I remember AI using rifles against tanks in ArmA, or at least tanks firing the MG instead of their main guns at other tanks. It was fixed.
  19. Don't you need a separate game logic responsible for surrendering?

    ArmA2 Media Blowout Twitter Q&A

Thx Cappa! Much easier to read the twitter thing...

    Arma newbie questions

In ArmA: You can swim. You can't knife fight at all (without modifications), the game is about fighting at much larger distances, you simply don't need knives nor have time to use them, and it's completely different from black hawk down/AI is probably too smart to be fought with knives. You can assign all the things you want where you want them + the game supports track ir.
  22. I wonder what does "overhauled" mean. It's probably better not to expect much, but if it's better than in ArmA it's already great.

    New ArmA II Pictures!

Wow, it looks really nice. I'd rather they left the grass in the water though. Why? Because it's realistic. I hate it when while playing a game, I see a pond with the land precisely separated from the water. (sounds stupid, I know) There's plenty of vegetation in the water, even if it's a plain grass, mostly because of water's surface fluctuation. It would look much better if there were shrubs in the water imho.. edit: sorry for ot, I didn't realise we're talking about cow simulation now :P

    Ai thread

You're right, I totally didn't understand the post you were refering to. I just glimpsed at it and hit the reply button, by bad. You're also right that dealing with the support units is a mission design concern mainly. On the other hand, would be really cool if BIS/someone created a funtionall sandbox for automatic insertion/extraction/battlefield clearance (medevac?) (is that the proper term?) etc. It could be really helpfull for missionmakers.
