    Ask a mod

At the same time though, we have strict limits on the size of images to make the forums more viewable for the like 3 people in the entire world left on 56k... They could easily turn images on the board off, but there are still limits on image sizes. It might be a nice gesture to those of us who prefer not to use a vulnerable, standards un-compliant browser, and those of us who prefer not to support what should be an illegal monopoly.

    Real life photography/photo editing

http://members.cox.net/olrbengax/cd.jpg Too bad I won't be able to go to the airshow here in Wichita this year. I have a stupid project that I have to do for school then. Anyone wanna spam my teacher's email address? Edit: Pic over 100kB!!! (102.09 kB)

    Good Graphics Program?

You could also look at Paint Shop Pro (personally version 7 is just as good if not better than version 8 or 9) or GIMP if you want to spend less money.(or none in GIMP's case). http://www.gimp.org/ Photoshop is probably a little better than those, but PSP or GIMP can do most of what people need for a lot less that the cost of Photoshop.

    PDA's, and software

This isn't an answer to your question, but do you like your Axim? Is there anything that you don't like about it? I'm asking because I'm thinking of getting one. They look pretty good for their price.

    Code M OFP2 Survey

I could maybe see having a skills setting for the player that could effect their speed(running) and maybe the steadiness of their hands(shooting), but other than that I don't think a skills setting should play much of a role for the player. And I think having it increase over a campaing makes it kind of arcadish. Like the beat this mission and you'll get to use a new gun! sort of stuff.

Possibility of releasing OFP source code?

There's already huge problems with different mods and MP. FDF doesn't work with any other mods, GMR, ECP, Y2k3, CSLA the list goes on and on. I don't see how it could get much worse. Maybe if (atleast part of) OFP was OSS then people/mods would have to work together more, instead of just thinking that everyone should use their mod and nothing else. If OFP was open source then perhaps someone could create an anti-cheating system, maybe something along the lines of PunkBuster. I would doubt that BIS is making too much(probably not any) money off of OFP these days. Releasing part of OFP as open source would help get more publicity for VBS and OFP2. Maybe BIS could even license some of the code to companies who want to use some of the code in commercial and proprietary games. And like I said before, BIS could use some of the code that people add in OFP2. It would be a way for them to make OFP2 better out of the box, and it would also keep their costs down by not making them hire more people. I could imagine that BIS is a little tight financially.

    An IQ Test

That might be fairly accurate, I think I remember getting a 133 on a test years ago at school. And I think I read that Bush's IQ is 120.

Possibility of releasing OFP source code?

I think releasing some of OFP as open source would definately be a good thing. Maybe BIS could put in the license to the source, that none of the source code could be used in another game, or to make money. Having some of OFP as open source would also help the game stay alive in the several years before OFP2 will probably come out. Maybe even some user made mods, making modifications or additions to the source, could even be used in OFP2.

    Bonds Hits 700!

Congrats to Bonds. I wonder why it didn't he didn't get nearly as much publicity when he broke McGuire's home run record as McGuire did. Maybe their should be a sports thread in Offtopic encompassing all sports stuff.
  10. Very nice job! I don't think I've ever seen any interiors near this quality before.

    Putin Moves to Centralize Authority

Does the Russian Parliament have enough power to challenge some of his rulings? And do they have a justice system that could overturn some of his acts? Hopefully there's atleast a few checks and balances to keep the Russian leaders from taking to much power(as Putin appears to be trying to do). I'm sure there are many things the Russians could have done better to prevent the Beslan and other terrorist attacks, but I don't see how giving one person more authority would solve any of those problems. How long is a term for a Russian President? I know there was an election fairly recently. Is there any limit on the number of terms that one person can hold? I really don't see how this situation is going to get any better until Putin is gone, or until measures are put into place to prevent him from becoming more or less a dictator. For all of our faults, the one good thing about our(American) government system(and I'm sure many governments of many other countries) is that it has a very good system of checks and balances. It would be pretty difficult for one person to take total control, without a violent coup d'tat(sp?).

    Putin Moves to Centralize Authority

Putin kind of scares me. Wasn't he doing some things with government control of some of the media before these recent round or terrorist attacks started? And didn't one of his competitors in the last election sort of "disappear"(don't know for sure, that's just what I think I heard a while back).
  13. Looks nice Have to try these out.

    Gunmen take 200+ student hostages

I'd be interested to see what the reaction to this is, in Chechnya, as well as what they think of the people who are doing this, or other acts of terror.

    Goodbye F-14

Maybe this'll encourage the development of a replacement for the Phoenix. Maybe an improved/longer-ranged version of the AMRAAM. Kind of OT, but I've actually heard differing opinions on the Phoenix. If I remember correctly it performed wonderfully in tests, but missed its target the only 2 times it has been fired in actual combat.
  17. Would a person wearing explosives be enough to bring down a jet? I would kind of think that it would require atleast a fair amount, enough that the they would probably be seen before they got on the plane, though I know nothing about engineering and not a whole lot about aerodynamics.
  18. It really sounds like there are way too many coincidences to not be some sort of terrorist act. Though, it does seem different than most of the other Chechen terrorist attacks(ie, most Chechen terrorist attacks have been in subways, theaters, etc, around Moscow or other major cities). Have they ever tried to hijack or bomb a plane before? The hijacking transponder code is intriguing. I'm not sure why they would hijack an airliner and just crash it(ie, not crash it into something). Though I guess people like that wouldn't be the most logical or rational people. The fuel thing sounds like kind of a stretch. I could maybe see and engine exploding or catching on fire, but I doubt they whole aircraft would disentegrate, not once, but twice.

    Help me understand.

People hate America, because we are a relatively wealthy nation, because we've been lucky, and because we are fortunate enough to a government system that works pretty well, and has transferred power peacefully many, many times. Many people envy Americans, and are jealous of many of the luxuries we enjoy. Many people also just want someone to hate, and seeing as we're the only real super-power today, we're the #1 target. Sometimes we make mistakes, and maybe we have historically gotten into fights that we should have stayed out of, however we generally do mean well, and for the most part try to do what'll be best in the big picture and have gone out of our way to improve the lives of people in other countries. Some people also hate us because we have taken a corrupt regime which they benifitted(sp?) from out of power.

Looks really nice Judging by your previous addons, I'm sure it'll be excellent when you release it.

    Y2K3 - Updated Ofp Config.

This is OT, but, is the fia mod still being made? I though it had died
  22. If OFP2 is being delayed because of Xbox and/or VBS, then maybe they should either stop those projects or delegate them to someone else. Or maybe get a larger dev. team.

    Laptops

In a few days(well, actually in a maybe 30 hours from now. Yes I am a procrastinator) I'm going to be going on vacation. I've though of getting a laptop for the last several months, and really want to get one for this(and future) vacations(especially since we'll be driving a fair ways). I've kind of narrowed it down to maybe 2 laptops, though I am open to suggestions(as long as its under $1100 or so). The two I'm considering are: Toshiba A75-S206 P4 w/ HT 2.6 15.4 " Widescreen 512 MB DDR, expandable to 1.5 GB 60 GB 4200 Integrated .11g 3 USB 2.0 Radeon 9000 w/ 64 MB shared $1149 and Compaq 2108us Athlon XP-M 2800+ 15" 512 DDR 40GB 4200 802.11G 2 USB 1.1 ATI Mobility Radeon 7500, Shared Memory 1 Firewire/IEEE1394 $899 Does anyone here have any expiriences with these notebooks? And how well would you think OFP would run on it?(I'm willing to use fairly low viewdistance, etc.). One thing I'm not sure about is how much slower shared memory is vs. dedicated(I probably don't have enough $$ for dedicated, but if I'm basically not going to be able to play OFP and a few other games w/ shared, then I might as well get a lower-end laptop). Feel free to suggest any others that are in that price range.

    Laptops

Thanks for your reccomendations. Â I was leaning a little towards the Toshiba before I posted here, and this definately confirmed it. Â I'm posting this from my brand new Toshiba A75-S206 via my wireless network! Â So far everything has worked really well, though I've yet to try any games.

    Laptops

The Toshiba has a touchpad. I honestly hadn't thought about how easy/difficult it would be to use that for gaming(I have a really old laptop, but it doesn't even support 3d gfx, so I never could game on it). I guess I would probably want to get a external mouse for it(I don't think either has PS/2 so, I'd have to get a USB mouse regardless). Thanks for the reply. I could probably get by with the 40 GB HD, though the 60 GB would give me a lot more room to play around with.
