I just wanna say thanks for this. For those of us who are scared of the performance hit of running ACE3 or have luddites scared of it's complexity, this certainly goes a long way to resolving (very elegantly) a small but very important short-coming. I'm amazed it hasn't been implemented natively.

Do you have any plans to release this and the other mods from 3CB on Steam's Workshop?

Don't forget the rest of their business model, i.e. "pay to win" aka micro-transactions. The pox of gaming IMHO (not only for gamers but devs too).

I just checked prices of DDR4 in 2x8GB and right now, it seems that DDR4-3000/3200 is the sweet spot. Beyond that prices sky rocket and returns diminish. So anyone thinking of moving to Skylake or Kaby Lake should avoid low-speed (2133-2400) DDR4 and favour high-speed (3000-3200) DDR4 instead because the difference in price is minimal whereas the latter can offer 15-20% gains in performance. Thanks BTW for your benchmarks. Sadly, there are fewer and fewer sites that use A3 to benchmark new CPUs and/or GPUs. Hardware Unboxed is another welcome exception.

AFAIK all missions are 64-bit compatible. Only a minority of mods (ACE3, ACRE2) are incompatible and a few peripherals (TrackIR, joysticks).
-
OK since you're already got a very fast CPU, GPU & SSD, I'd replace DDR4-2400 with DDR4-3200, as this should deliver +10-15% in performance (A3 loves fast RAM): http://techreport.com/review/31179/intel-core-i7-7700k-kaby-lake-cpu-reviewed/11 Of course you can buy faster DDR4 but prices quickly rise, returns diminish and you're fast approaching the maximum speed supported by most motherboards (never good). Oh and I agree that you're better off going for a 4K but disabling the AA. If you do make any of these upgrades, please let us know how it goes. If possible, benchmark before and after.

Will-my-pc-run-Arma3? What cpu/gpu to get? What settings? What system specifications?
domokun replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
You're right: there's no boost per se. Instead you should encounter fewers lags due to micro-stutters caused by suddenly loading huge amounts of data, i.e. gameplay smoother. If you've got the cash to spare, consider a TrackIR Pro 5. While it's no substitute to full VR, it offers the biggest leap in immersion this side of €900. -

What's the rest of your system like? Because unless you've got an insanely fast PC, you'll prolly never hit 1440p @ 144 fps, nor 4K @ 60 fps: So personally, I'd go for a 1440p @ 60 Hz, because your GTX 1070 can't run fast enough to power either of the 2 above options.

FreeSync/GSync Monitor for a smoother Arma 3 gameplay?
domokun replied to xon2's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Do you have an SSD? If not get one, preferably 240 GB or higher and migrate your OS and A3 onto it. That will help smooth out A3 more than any graphical synchronisation, not to mention improve your overall Windows experience. Suggesting that we cannot run A3 is fast is false. You can you just need an Intel i5/i7 running at 3.5+, ideally 4+ GHz and a recent NIVDIA GPU: -

Do you have an SSD? If not, you'll see more performance improvements than the upgrade from 1060 to 1070. -
ADDED: * CUP_Dubbing_Radio_CZ,CZ_ACR,EN,GB_BAF,GB_PMC,RU,TK radio protocol Does this mean that each faction speaks its own language? And I think that "changed setting arrangement" should read "changed seating arrangement" But otherwise, thanks a MILLION! Happy New Year to you and the team!!

Yes it would be wiser. I suggest the Hyper 212 Evo from CoolMaster as it's surprisingly effective, highly-compatible and relatively cheap: http://pcpartpicker.com/product/hmtCmG/cooler-master-cpu-cooler-rr212e20pkr2 -

A GTX1060 is a better card than a RX480 for most games. This is particularly true for Arma. Also I suggest that you get the 6GB model (instead of the 3GB), particularly as you plan on running triple-screen. Finally, if it isn't already, I strongly suggest overclocking your 2500k -

If you want combat screams then check-out MR G's mod And if you want to enhance IFA3, then contact @Gunter Severloh whose WarMods have been giving WW2 vets PTSD since 6 years now (WarMod v1 was for Arma 1).

You've obviously done very little CQB. Being able to distinguish that sounds (footsteps, gunshots, voices) are from the floor above or below offers a HUGE tactical difference. Equally hearing helicopters or jets flying overhead, is SO much more convincing that simply hearing them move from behind to in-front. In many ways, 3D has regressed over the last 20 years. Anyone remember how good A3D's HRTF was in HL1? Creative can choke itself on attorney fees.

You do indeed speak rather slowly but I think that he's suggesting that you cut the unnecessary preamble. At best it sounds like you're waffling, at worst you risk sounding like a self-important twat.
-
Have you considered designing missions for a completely different époque? e.g. a Vietnam mission using the Unsung mod and/or a WW2 mission using IF3L/FoW/CSA38

RHS Escalation (AFRF and USAF)
domokun replied to soul_assassin's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
I think that you're right. Many of these massive mods (CUP, Unsung, RHS) are awesome but I feel that there are too few missions that do them justice. For example, one of the best mods for Arma 2 was CWR2. Its greatness was not just measured but it's quality AND breadth but also by the fact that there were hundreds of missions that featured it's content, in fact there were even a few campaigns. As for terrains, if you feel that default terrains of Stratis and Altis are unsuited to RHS, then try the CUP Terrains. They're perhaps not quite as high quality as vanilla terrains, but they certainly offer a wide range of terrains and despite it's size, it's slowly become a standard for many A3 players.- 15862 replies
