Structures - Ambient Occlusion Improvements
domokun replied to bis_iceman's topic in ARMA 3 - DEVELOPMENT BRANCH
While I too wish that BI would allocate more resources to bug fixing, I think that it's naive to think that patches won't impact other parts of the game. In software development, despite the best efforts of QA, practically every release brings regressions. Another equally unavoidable challenge of development is feature prioritisation. What seems "a useless supplement" to you maybe a "should have" or even "must have" to someone else. In fact BI is working on other aspects which impact gameplay, e.g. jet sensors, jet hitpoints, AI driving, etc. Most of these improvements will affect ALL maps, not just Tanao. With the possible exception of CD Projekt, I doubt you'll find many other devs supporting their game 4 years after it's release, however imperfect their efforts may appear. -
Original Ghost Recon Campaign - Released!!
domokun replied to lightspeed_aust's topic in ARMA 3 - USER MISSIONS
Lighty's original GR: IT2 campaign required just 4 mods: CUP Terrains Core CBA3 RHS USAF RHS AFRF So I think that it's fair to guess that this installment will have similar, if not, identical requirements. Admitedly most of them are huge mods (several GB each) but it's well worth it as it allow players to travel 10 years back to a simpler battlefield with a healthy mix of high-tech (NVGs, satcoms, GPS, lasers, smart-bombs, etc.) without drowning the player with tacticool gadgets (drones, hacking, EMP grenades, HUD, RDT, augmented reality, etc.) like GR: Future Solider, The Division, etc. -
The automatic mapping of the tracks is REALLY impressive. Does it work on any other maps apart from Tanoa? What about CUP maps and/or Icebreakers? Also what interaction is possible? Just AI driving train? Or can players hijack the train? Also can the train and/or tracks be damaged?

Structures - Ambient Occlusion Improvements

Many thanks; that's a MUCH better way of presenting the changes. Personally I'm surprised that the brightness doesn't vary more in intensity throughout the day. For personal experience but also time-lapse photography, I'd expect brightness to increase up to midday and then decrease after. If it did here, then I think that it was way too sublte. Perhaps I'm not appreciating it because I don't know what time it is. So maybe you could add at 24-hour clock in the top-right hand corner? -
Unnamed Vietnam War Map (cambodia/laos)
domokun replied to bludski's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
I've never visited Canada but I think that it's an exceptionally beautiful country. So I'll extend mountain streams to mountain rivers. ;) Where I live the only time that the rivers leave their turd-like hue is when the melt waters turn them foaming white. -
Unnamed Vietnam War Map (cambodia/laos)
domokun replied to bludski's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Awesome! You could call the village Pieds Secs (Dry Feet) and the school Saint Joseph de Bon Espoir (St Joseph's of Good Hope). BTW I love the brown colour of your rivers (alluvium-laden). I only wish that more rivers in Arma were this colour for, other than mountain streams, I've rarely seen a blue river. -
Iron Front in Arm3 LITE - preview versions

Hail Mary. I really hope that the IFA3 team has worked out a deal with the I44 team to integrate their previous content. Because I44 was by far the best WW2 mod (note that IF for A2 was not a mod) for Arma 2. Everything from the maps, to the units and weapons were brilliant. OK they weren't perfect but they were close to being professional. For example I really miss their winter maps... -
Can anyone host the config elsewhere than Mega? Because I just tried downloading it from Mega and when I opted to "Download via browser" I got stuck with the error message "Out of HTML5 Offline Storage Space".
-
Awesome. Can't wait for this to arrive on Steam. That way some of lazy barstewards in my clan will discover these great motors.
-
Hahaha this would be hilarious if it wasn't so sad. I can't release a mission because the AI tried like someone with ADHD (Attention Deficient Hyperactivity Disorder).

@SHJ-Studio Thanks a million. I'm really looking forward to re-living this classic campaign but redux with all the latest visual, sound and gameplay imrpovements from A3. BTW, a year ago you released the ArmA Rearmed 2 mod. It was an almost perfect reproduction of the Arma 1 campaigns in the Arma 2 engine. Now that CUP Terrains is well-established and Project RACS seems to be mature, do you have any plans to release the same Arma 1 campaigns (Sahrani Conflict, Rahmadi Conflict & Royal Flush) for A3?
-
@wld427 How are you progressing? The reason I'm asking is that, a year ago, @SHJ-Studio released his ArmA Rearmed 2 mod. Which was a very faithful reproduction of the A1 campaigns in A2 engine. So do you plan for PRACS v3 to be an identical reproduction of their A1 incarnation? Or are you modifying PRACS v3's unit list depending on resources and your bandwidth?

@bad bensonI agree that it'd be a great idea if stamina and weight impact the speed of the hurdling and climbing animations, where the more tired and heavier you are the slower you go over. I equally think that it's a great idea to make these effects optional because although Arma's a milsim at heart, no everyone is a hardcore milsimmer. Finally, I agree that it would be awesome if a solider carrying to heavy a load (40kg max?), couldn't climb over a wall. I think it'd be more exciting if we started slowly, slowed, grunted and then stopped when reaching that critical of pulling past the chest, before dropping back down gasping for breath. Imagine the panicked horror when realising that you'll either have to drop something from your loadout or find an alternative route.

Arma 3 STABLE server 1.98 "performance binary" feedback
domokun replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 3 - SERVERS & ADMINISTRATION
Beagle's right but unless I'm mistaken, you're running on a laptop right? If so, then a CPU that runs at 2.6 GHz is going to badly bottleneck your GPU. See for yourself here: http://www.techspot.com/review/712-arma-3-benchmarks/page5.html So either enjoy Arma at 50 fps (pretty good I think) or play Arma on a desktop machine with a fast CPU (at least 3 GHz, better +3.5, ideally 4+ GHz). -
Possible fix for the "3 FPS Drop" Issue
domokun replied to bis_iceman's topic in ARMA 3 - DEVELOPMENT BRANCH
@redarmy Submitting a scenario helps devs because reproducing bugs often takes far more time than it takes to correct them. As for BF4, you've either got poor memory or selective memory because when BF4 was released it suffered from poor peformance for almost year before Dice released a patch that addressed the problems. No-one is questioning you voicing disappointment. On the contrary, your analysis seems to show promise. That's why people have shown interest and courtesy when they could have ignored you or even been rude. However I'd loose that sense of entitlement, as it'll get you nowhere. -
Any chance then that you could simply disable it by default? That way, those who are really interested in it can re-activate it?
-
@Godlikeru I'm not saying you're wrong. Quite on the contrary, for years I've encouraged other to avoid start-up parameters because they often cause more harm than good. But my system is old, my bank account bare and I'm familiar enough with Arma to take my chances ;) Seriously I'll be benchmarking -maxVRAM=3583 with YAAB tomorrow night. @flax_ cheers mate
-
Thanks for the warning. But I'm actually on the Performance branch so my question remains valid "As a GTX 970 user I find this promising but shouldn't that start-up parameter be -maxVRAM=3583 instead of -maxmem=3583?"

How about you share your work? It sounds like it took a lot of effort. -

If it's of the same quality as your GR:IT2 campaign, it's going to be brilliant. So I'm really looking forward to it! -
Possible fix for the "3 FPS Drop" Issue
domokun replied to bis_iceman's topic in ARMA 3 - DEVELOPMENT BRANCH
Are you certain of this? It seems remarkably simple solution -
True. I remember rolling mine up and tucking it into a pocket, so it was always at the ready.
-
Lovely. Though the train seemed to be travelling very fast. Is there any chance of derailement? either because the train is travelling too fast or because the tracks are badly damaged (sabotage)
