LOW FPS USING GTX 570 - help pls!
domokun replied to magnus28's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
Before you start troubling yourself with drivers, try these tweaks With a bit of luck you should be able to keep your Draw Distance high enough to fly. -
We experienced an identical problem on the Black Box mission. Our leader spent 5 mins trying to find it. Then another squad member (medic) walked up and found it straight away. Very furstrating. A bug? Or just bad luck? In any case we played the mission with the 1.60 patch and it wasn't hosted on a dedicated server. 1 minor detail, it would have been nice to have to call the helo from extraction using the radio menu, rather than it automatically triggering on our arrival. Perhaps more importantly, it would have been better (more tension) if the helo had taken longer to arrive. IIRC it arrived barely 1-min after it was triggered. This seems a little unrealistic, as this would only have been possible if it was A) hovering and B) holding less than 1km away. So maybe have the helo in a holding pattern some 5-10 klicks away and/or parked waiting? I think that the increased wait (5 mins) would provide a nice increase in tension before the end of the mission. That said we really enjoyed the mission. We're looking forward to playing some more of your creations!

Will my PC Run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? System Specifications.
domokun replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
For A2 and OA, a 1GB video card is sufficient, even at high resolutions (2560x1600). Verdict from reputed website Main developer at BI Studios I couldn't agree more. Among AMD and NVidia paper launches appear to be increasingly common. Plus the recent turmoil in Asia isn't going to make matters any easier. -
This is not the thread to discuss your difficulties in combing A2 and OA to form CO. So better you try this thread instead: ARMA 2: CO (how to combine ARMA 2 into ARMA 2:OA and use together)

Happy New Year chaps! Any if you need some 1.60-wielding beta testers just let me know.. ;-)

Grebbeberg - WIP terrain
domokun replied to DualJoe's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Although I'd like to help you I have no experience in map making however, I believe others could help you. So try contacting the more experienced map makers on this forum. I can think of IceBreakr, Bushlurker, Raunhofer, Old Bear, Minimalaco, MugAben... (I apologise for anyone else I may have forgotten). I'm really looking forward to this as it sounds so different from the forests and undulating terrain that characterise most OA maps. -
Sorry if this is a dumb question but what are the main differences between this mission and Fireball's Insurgency?

Happy New Year mate. Don't suppose you could connect back-up your patcher for the betas? It's just that, against all expectations, BIS have started churning them out again! -
ArmA2 / OA (low) performance issues
domokun replied to R3fl3x's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
A2/OA is a very ambitious game and therefore requires much more resources than most other, simpler, games. So to enjoy smooth gameplay (>25fps) without making it look like a Wii-game, I recommend trying these tweaks before undertaking anything serious (overclocking and/or upgrading): a) Ensure you're running the latest official patch, which is 1.11 for A2, 1.62 for OA (if you're unsure, the build number is displayed at the bottom right-hand corner of the menu screen). Also, check-out the latest beta patches as they always offer improvements! b) Edit OA's config file (something like My Documents\ArmA2\Arma2OA.cfg), find AToC=7 and change it to AToC=0 c) add the -nologs parameter to the target line of your shortcut to A2 (a new flag that prevents your client from writing errors to the RPT file. This reduces disk activity and makes the game run faster. You miss any non-crash errors which, unless you're debugging, is fine), e.g. "E:\ArmA 2\Expansion\beta\arma2oa.exe" -beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion -mod=ACR;@CBA_CO;@WarFX-BC;@JSRS;@RHS;@lingor;@Podagorsk;@panthera; -nosplash -nologs d) Tweak OA's in-game Video Settings (Options > Video > Advanced) Visibility: 1600-3800m <= has biggest impact so try lowering as much as possible Interface: 100% 3D res: 100% Tex: Very High Vid mem: Default Anisotropic: Normal or Higher Antialiasing: disabled, if this hurts your eyes use PPAA instead, I recommend SMAA Terrain: Normal Objects: Normal or Higher Shadows: High or Very High HDR: Normal or Higher Post-proc: Low, Very Low or even Off V-Sync: Disabled(particularly for Radeons), unless you get tearing e) Try these mods to gain a few fps without sacrificing too much eye-candy: - Oktane's noBlur (allows you to enable Low Post-Proc without the nausea-inducing and performance sapping "blur" effect) - Dynamic View Distance (reduces and increases your view distance to ensure good framerates, fully configurable, with option for pilots) - PROPER Visual Tweaks for Vegetation & Buildings - SAP Clutter - GDT grass f) Clean out the crap - I recommend CCleaner as it's free, light and efficient g) Defrag what's left - I recommend Defraggler as it's free, light and efficient h) Close other programs (browsers, IM, etc.) & minimise your services - Game Booster is your friend i) Update your PC's drivers. Driver Booster is a free, efficient and spyware-free utility saves you the time and effort of searching for them. j) if your CPU is an Intel Core i7 and OA stutters, try disabling the HT (Hyper-Threading) via the BIOS k) Catalyst settings for sparkle-free Anisotropic Filtering -
ARMA 2: OA beta build 87646 (1.60 MP compatible build, post 1.60 release)
domokun replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
what would happen if a client installed this, then hosted a game and then other clients connected, some on 1.60 others on this beta? would the differences in build between the clients cause incompatibilities? -

domokun replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
I don't know who "they" are but, next time, check here and cross-reference with reputable, non-partisan sites. I wouldn't worry about it too much, "they" gave you fairly good advice overall. Going for an oversized PSU is fairly common mistake (in some countries people believe "bigger is better"). -
I was impressed by your mod but I'm amazed by your commitment to detail! Keep it up the good work

domokun replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
How about swapping the 2600K for a 2500k? Moreover 850W PSU is also a bit of an overkill. You could easily run that rig with a smaller PSU, e.g. CMPSU-650TX. Now with the $150 you've saved you can afford a 120GB SATA3 SSD. Finally your HDD is simply marked "500GB Seagate", I'd opt for a WD Caviar Blue. They're the fastest HDD apart from 10k drives like the Raptors. -
I strongly support this motion! i.e. please decrease the attentuaion of vehicle sounds. I was testing with the Trial By Fire mission and I could barely hear BRDM, even when it was less than 50 feet away.
-
Thanks for offering the hotfix as a direct download. Just to be clear, its just the @ACE folder that needs updating right?
-
OK I understand the 128 limit but does this mean that your infamous distance-attenuation script only works with missions that have vehicules in them? Or does it only work in user-created missions?

Felicitations! I'm looking for to trying another high-quality release. I especially like the idea of releasing these units & weapons with a dedicated campaign!

Zeus AI Combat Skills
domokun replied to Protegimus's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
NP mate, glad I could help. BTW if you want to improve your campaigns without borking the missions, I can suggest: - JTD Fire & Smoke mod - OpticalSnare's WarFX Blastcore mod - Mando's Missile mod - Lord Jarhead's JSRS mod - ShackTactical's HUD mod All of these require the CBA mod -
Zeus AI Combat Skills
domokun replied to Protegimus's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
To check if Zeus was added correctly simply check the right-hand side of the menu screen. There on the top-right should be listed all the mods that were installed, e.g. Zeus AI As for compatibility with campaigns, I would say "NO". The reason is that the Zeus AI mod, along with most other AI mods (GL4, SLX, ASR AI) modify the behaviour of troops automatically so much so that missions designed to achieve a certain effect without these mods might finish very differently with these mods activated. My advice is to enjoy these mods (ASR AI in particular) in multiplayer but to avoid them in SP. -
Brilliant! I'm really looking forward to trying this (once the kids are in bed). Since I've just downloaded ACE 1.13, should I disable @ACEX_SM if I use JSRS 1.4?

ARMA 2: OA beta build 87636 (1.60 MP compatible build, post 1.60 release)
domokun replied to Dwarden's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - BETA PATCH TESTING
So let me get this right, this hot fix only applies to Steam users who've been updated to 1.60? -
First thanks for the update. Second can you help me understand the difficulty settings? I edited my OAProfile with the settings recommended in this post: http://forums.bistudio.com/showpost.php?p=1752374&postcount=20 And despite this the AI still seemed to regular kill me with their 2-3 shot from 300m away. I then installed the 1.60 patch and noticed that in the Options>Difficulty screen there was a slider for enemy accuracy. As I'm played on 3rd option (Expert?) the lowest it would go was 0.7. So I selected this value and also lowered this value for the other difficulties. I then carried on playing to check and it seemed to make a slight difference (the default was 0.8 IIRC). Curious I quit the game and checked my OAProfile and found that none of the value were modified despite me lowering the sliders. Then I wondered if maybe the ASR AI mod was somehow over-riding these settings. Can anyone help me out here?

Sorry to bother you during this yuletide season but is there any chance of an update for the 1.60 patch that was released this afternoon? As without it I experience a "Error creating Direct3D 9 Graphical engine" error message that prevents OA from loading. -
Radeon 7970 released - ARMA 2 Performance Gains
domokun replied to Rouen58's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
By your silly logic comparing the 7970 and 1.5GB 580 is like comparing a sports car and an articulated lorry. I couldn't of thought of a better metaphor to describe your insincerity. Not even Top Gear gets that silly! Seriously, any fair comparison would compare similarly priced sports cars or similarly priced lorries.
