  1. Juppie: your video card and CPU are rather weak. Try a more virile CPU.

    Alienware M17x...

Sintacks: try Gamebooster. It's free, lightweight and efficient and les time-consuming that disbaling the services manually.
  3. mrcash2009: I'd be very interested in trying your sound-mod compo. Do you have them zipped together in an archive? If so, would you mind uploading them to share with others? If not, could you maybe provide a list of which files you've used?

    Alienware M17x...

Sintacks: you should be able to run A2 @ 1920x1200 smoothly. You just have to be smart, i.e. don't ram everything to "max". Deadfast is right, your CPU is prolly bottle-nbecking your system. Try these settings For you this means: a) set Interface to 1920x1200 b) set Fillrate to 100% c) start with a VD of 2400 or more (3600?) d) set Texture to High e) set Mem to High/vHigh f) set Anio to High/vHigh g) set AA to Dis/Low h) set Terrain to Normal i) set Object to Norm/High g) set Shadows to High/VHigh h) set PP to Low/High i) set Interface to vSml/Small j) install the 70100 beta patch bold = recommended settings Let us know how you get on. Please appreciate that A2's campaign is notoriouly slow due to the high amount of scripting it uses.

    Weapons Sway

As an ex-sharpshooter I welcome this move from random sway to the figure of 8. Is there anyway that the amplitude of the figure of eight be linked to the shooter physical exertion? i.e. if you run for 5 mins then your sway will be far more important than if you've run for 30 secs... Also does this mod only affect players? or also AI? Congrats on another smart mod!
  6. @Andersson : thanks for the tip but I don't have Yomas YAS installed, just Six Updater. Do you know if there's any way using Six? Also, last night encountered the incredibly annoying "wounding when firing light machine gun" (PKM in this case). IIRC this bug is ages old. Wasn't it fixed? i.e. hasn't it crept back in (like sneaky insurgent). So should I bother reporting it over at Dev Heaven?
  7. Last night I installed the latest beta patch (70100) and updated ACE 2 to v1.1 using Six Updated. On loading ACE 2 I encountered the following error message: Hoping it wasn't serious I began enjoying ACE, however about 15 mins later the game crashed. To be certain that this wasn't related to the new beta, I then played for 2 hours straight without the slightest of problems. I checked Six Updater several times and it never detected a problem. Any ideas?
  8. @Gulag: since several months now ATi Tray Tools supports Win7 and in particular Win7-64. FYI the latest beta is 1.6.9.1486 and available directly from the publisher here Trust me - I run ATT and Win7-64 without any problem. Only you have to run it with Adminstrator rights.
  9. @diveplane: that does sound rather harsh. Please bear in mind that what might be fact for you might be fiction for others. @Gen. Nuisance: I whole-heartedly agree. I was hoping for 3rd time lucky! Rather! However is also seems to be an increasing trend (Company of Heroes, Crysis, GTA4, etc.). To be honest I'd rather they publish some ambitious and slow, rather than something underwhelming and fast. You're right to be wary so if you don't know what you're doing, invite a friend of who does and/or take it in very small steps. As for the graphic settings, despite their name much of their performance is dictacted by your CPU. With your setup you should be able to play smoothly with most settings on Default. FYI here's a good guide to OC your video card. Whenb I have a bit more time, I'll dig out a similar guide to OC your CPU. In the meantime, here is another tweak that might help: 1. Find your arma2.cfg file (under My Documents) 2. Make a copy of this file (if anything goes wrong, you can go back to this) 3. Search for these 2 parameters and change the values to "0" GPU_MaxFramesAhead=0; GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=0; This seemed to help me and others running Win7. Oh and yes the vegetation tweak only really helps when the screen renders vegetation. So forests = good perf gains. City = little or none
  10. Contact whoever sold you the DVD, i.e. don't contact the publisher I bought mine online from Zaavi so I contacted them and they posted me a replacement.

    ArmaHolic ArmA 2 Optimization

HT = HyperThreading It only applies to PCs with i7 CPUs. HT is disabled via the BIOS.
  12. @Gen. Nuisance : I agree with you but many games on PC are only playalable on low or medium settings for most mortals. Unfortunately BI have always been particulary bad at this (OFP, A1 & A2) but if you look at it another way you realease that they were shooting for the stars, not the masses. Personally I don't think that's right because it hurts them in the short-term and in today's "I need everything, now" culture that REALLY hurting them. Seeing as neither you, nor I are going to change BI's strategy, here are a few tips that should help you getting half decent framerates: (in order of priority & ease) 1. get the latest official patch (v1.05) 2. try the latest beta patch (works wonders for some). Don't worry this can be safely installed in parallel to the official patch 3. try the tips I outlined above (post from 3 weeks ago) 4. try OC your CPU - increase your FSB gradually (5 MHz at a time?) Let us know how you got on.
  13. Hi I'm really interested in this mod but I can't find any reference to its MP compatibility. So is this mod server-side only? Or do all players need to have it installed? Finally can you confirm it requires CBA?
  14. I agree. It would be great if this could be integrated into ACE. Or better still, integrated but with an easy (in-game menu?) option for turning it off. Even better still, with an option to for servers to force it client-side (all players on the server must use that option, to avoid imbalances). Possible? If so, how hard?

    Some help needed

Jan: all of the above are true but if they don't provide sufficiently good performance, try these suggestions and let us know how you get on...

ARMA2 does not use my 4 cores

Simple fact is that it's very difficult to write an engine that REALLY uses all 4 cores. A2 does but not brilliantly well. To be fair, A2's engine is a hangover from A1, so it's a miracle is manages even this. The fact is that with A2, at the same price point, as fast dual core will always trump a slower quad.
  17. Azbo: I can feel your pain so have you tried any or all of these suggestions?
  18. Last night ATI published a preview version o ftheir 10.4 Catalyst drivers. So anyone brave enough to test 'em? Better still, report back?
  19. Guys, I feel your pain but Arma2 is a very sophisticated game (it isn't railroad shooter like Call of Duty). Add to this the fact that it doesn't make the most of modern PCs (poor support for quad cores, doesn't use more than 2GB RAM). So basically we have a game that is unbalanced, i.e. very resource hungry in some areas and surprisingly meagre in others. Like many other simulators, the key to good performance is a fast CPU (2GHz min, 2.5GHz mediocre, 3GHz better, 3.5GHz good, 4GHz nice). After that a recent & decent (>$100) graphics card will help. Other factors which may help you achieve acceptable framerates (>25fps): PC Defrag your hard disk (try Defraggler) Disable hyperthreading (only for i7 CPUs)no longer required if using the latest patches Close all other programs when playing A2 (browsers, IM, media players, etc.) Disable unecessary services (try Gamebooster) Grab the latest beta patch In-game video settings Ideally set Interface your screen's native resolution Ensure 3D Resolution (Fillrate) is set to 100% Try Video Memory at "Default" or failing that High Reduce Draw Distance to 1800-3600 (biggest impact on performance) Disable AA, if not Low or even Normal (but big hit) Keep Terrain at Normal Set Shadows to High or even Very High Lower Post-Processing to Low or even Disabled Mods Lighten the load from trees & bushes using Proper Vegetation Tweak Enjoy lovely visual effects offered by Post-Processing without the nausea-inducing and performance-sapping blur thanks to Oktane's noBlur mod Trim that lovely but useless (AI can see thru it, you can't) grass and increase your framerates thanks to GTD grass trim Let us know if that helps.
  20. You disable it via your BIOS (press either the DEL key or F1 when your system posts)

    Windows 7 stutter SOLVED!!

I fully agree with all of the above. The good news is that there's an easy solution to reducing services: Gamebooster It helps beginners and lazy people (myself included) temporarily shut down background processes. I've been using it for 6 months now and no worries, only smoother performance!

    Campania de Malvinas MOD

Muchas gracias para Ingleterra! Seriously I'm so glad that you finally released this. I can't begin to described my disappointment when OFP 1982 closed. So I'm looking forward to testing this. But I'm dreamining of seeing it ported to A2!

Günter: IIRC you have played the Cold War Rearmed mod. If so, is this mod compatible with CWR?
