One is enough.

It's not that anyone is contesting for the sheer fun of it. It's just that the time spent on developing such a rare used feature would be better of spent on other things. Like, you know, make the bloody game playable.

Isn't that the outlines of Skira?

You're not being blinded by it so probably not.

Retard AI can't walk in straight lines ?

It's not the AI that is dumb. It's the dynamic nature of the ArmA 2 AI. It might be a little frustrating in certain situations, but it's this sporadic behaviour that makes the game more open and dynamic compared to others. What you could do is create smaller groups, use more waypoints, order individual units to move, etc, etc. If all else fails you could do a switchmove loop, but you really, really don't want to go there. ;) -
1.03 has definitely improved the frame rate for me. Whilst only marginally, it is enough for the game to be upgraded from a "only playable because I'm a diehard fanatic"-status to something more in the lines of "almost barely playable" on my ol' and trusty rig.

Love the models in this game, but...

We might be accepting 'crap', but it's the best 'crap' that can be bought with money. The rest of the gaming industry isn't exactly crowding up to satisfy the customers of this genre. -
I love FZ, but since I can hardly run ArmA2 at all I have to disable it because it makes it a bit easier to aim at low frame rates.

I get the chopper issue too. Other than that it's working fine. Except that the missions are often bloody hard! :P

Some ?s before I buy ArmA II in the U.S....

(1) Sometimes, yes. Not always. But that is acceptable, seeing the dynamic structure of this type of games. (2) "Capable" is a difficult word. They still suffer from problems, but it's at least ten times better than OFP/ArmA. (3) They navigate through buildings better if ordered to do so, but I don't think they autonomously take advantage of them. (4) Yes. (5) Yes. They cover each others arcs, move tactically. It all depends on their combat mode though. A lot of people that are complaining about the AI are just ignorant and don't realize how to properly command and/or setup the AI. (6) No. Haven't seen anyone do it anyway. (7) Yes. Makes fire fights really interesting actually. This feature actually gets your adrenaline flowing even after 8 years in the series. :) (8) Don't know how you mean. You can always enable crosshair/shrink the floating zone if that's what you mean. (9) Haven't played SLX in OFP and only briefly in ArmA, but I can say that I am overly impressed by the ArmA 2 AI. I myself had AI improvements as the no-contested no. 1 priority of improvements wanted in ArmA as well as ArmA 2. ArmA's lack of improvements quite disappointed, but ArmA 2 as more than made up for that disappointment. (10) I haven't checked it thoroughly, but it seems improved compared to ArmA. This combined with the suppression makes for really intense fire fights. :) -
Do you consider he might have meant a legal download? I think GameTap offers it, although I'm not sure.

If I'm not interested in enabling AA anyway (since my computer is crap), is there any reason for me to download the patch at all?

ArmA2 1.03 Impressions - ALL Impressions/Videos/Screenies Here

Have been playing the game non-stop since I got it this evening. I love the campaign so far. My only complaint is that it sometimes seems to have been made with cadet mode in mind, where you can see the waypoints. :| -
While there is a scoreboard, in my experience it's hardly ever used. And if it is looked at, it's usually just to check who is still alive in a co-op game.
-
Oh, that's evil man. Pure evil. :p
-
I think he got it by now.

Fire mode and engagement modes are two different things. Fire mode decides if the unit should fire or not (where 3: Fire is fire only on ordered target IIRC) while engagement modes is whether the AI unit should break formation or not while engaging enemy unit. So by default, all units "start" with the disengage order so they maintain unit cohesion. This was the way it was in OFP and ArmA anyway. No idea if it has changed in ArmA2 though, since I haven't received my copy yet.

Then it's settled. ArmA 3 will depict Russia as the good guys versus the evil Imperial States of America.

Do you realise how many trees would get cut down!? You're supporting the murder of the Amazon Rainforest!

Smoke and Dust to last longer

There's also the effect on gameplay. AI will be able to see through the particles, the player(s) will not. -

Yeah, I think they're proper actors. Dunno if the ones BIS hires are. Haven't played ArmA2 yet, but OFP:E and ArmA1 wasn't exactly convincing. Trivia: Armstrong in CWC is playing some corpsman/medic-guy in Generation Kill. Thought I recognised his voice so I looked it up. :) -
Hello! I'm waiting for the 505 release, and to celebrate the release me and three mates have planned to play through the entire campaign in co-op. But seeing as multiplayer campaigns have been uncharted land up until now and there's been reports of heavy bugs, I'd just thought I'd check with everyone who has the Morphicon release to see if there's any show-stopping annoyances. Is the campaign playable in co-op? Are variables transferred correctly between missions? Will you see all the cutscenes? Is there anything that functions differently when you compare playing the campaign in SP and in MP? I'd really appreciate if someone would answer, as I imagine it would be quite awful if me and my mates would run into a show-stopper after the second mission or something. Thanks!

Does camouflage actually work against the AI?
dmakatra replied to BF2_Trooper's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - GENERAL
I don't know about ArmA2 because I have no experience of it yet, but the detection rules in OFP/ArmA are actually quite complex. I too thought the detection was bugged, or that the AI cheated, until I did some heavy testing a couple of years back and found out that there's so many different variables that come into the calculation that you sometimes get fooled into thinking that the AI is cheating when it's just being very complex. As for camouflage. Well, it doesn't actually "work". IIRC, as it was a couple of years since I last did some serious testing, camouflage has nothing to do with the texture in itself. It's just represented by a value in the units config. So a unit in ghillie suit will be just as hard to spot by the AI if he's in a lush environment as if he's in a arctic environment. If the lightning and clutter around the unit is identical, that is. EDIT: Ah, Max Power beat me to it. -
Of course I would have a problem shooting a woman. I'm not a psychopath. But I'd have just as hard a time to shoot a woman as I would've had if I shot a man. Why should my sympathy differ just because one of them have a penis and the other don't?
