Hunt the intruder - out-flank him
da12thMonkey replied to Footmunch's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
http://portal.telegraph.co.uk/news....e13.xml I remember hearing the story some time before this article was made though, and it was said then that the first few aircraft delivered would have the cannon but no amunition would be supplied for it. This was probably meant that no amunition for the cannon would be supplied to aircraft/units operating the Typhoon. Either way it doesn't seem like we'll be using the cannon. -
Do pics of military stuff from airshows etc count or does it have to be from in the field etc? I have plenty of pics from RIAT and I just got my scanner working again after a long time without it so I'm eager to post some. Edit- included some pics to show you what I mean: F-117 Nighthawk taken at RIAT '97 at RAF Fairford. They were towing it back to a hanger for overnight storage between the 2 days of the show when someone parked a Ford Transit minibus in the way, giving plenty of opertunities for a nice close up look.

Unilateralism's my main problem with the US as a nation. I personally don't feel America is open to alternate ideas or criticism and it's particularly annoying to me when I see such agressive foreign policy with rather excessive promotions of American culture and ideas over conflicting ones that people elsewhere are happy with. I've always kind of thought that America has had such a strong belief in what they do is right by God because it's worked for them ever since the idea of 'Manifest Destiny' was spawned in the 19th Century. It's not like I look down on America or it's people but some aspects of its ideals seem insensitive to me, every nation values its culture so to lose it is something terrible. Even in the UK people talk about how our culture has declined quite dramatically in the past 30 years because of the way the world is getting smaller. It seems inevitable to me that Western culture will eventually be everywhere but it'd be nice I suppose to see it slow down a little and enjoy the diversity of the world while it's still around.

Knights of the Old Republic a Star Wars RPG made by Bioware. It has a really fantastic story line and very engaging characters, I recomend you try it if you like RPGs or Star Wars in any way. I don't agree with GTA: VC being the best game ver, not by a long shot. In my opinion Illusion's Mafia should be coming up very close to the top.

My favourite is Saving Private Ryan. I know it's full of US patriotic shit but it's beautifully directed and some of the performances are very good which makes it a good example of what a film should be in my opinion. I'm also a fan of Kelly's Heros A British TV channel called Channel 4 is running a poll exactly like this here http://www.channel4.com/film....te.html and the results will form a TV show next year.

Absolutely fantastic soldier guys they fit the BAS Tonal Islands to a T. I really like the look of the special force units. Still trying to get the Objects and Air packs to download, I can't wait to try them out too.

I didn't know who he is either but someone on IRC informed me that he made a song called "She's a Superfreak" that goes "she's a super freak! super freak, she's super freaky..."

Great, I can mow down some of OFrP's new units with them tomorrow then.
-
But it worked much better with my old drivers.
-
I recently updated my drivers for my Ti4600 to the NVidia 6.1.7.7s and I noticed that my FPS dropped significantly when I ran dxdll with water reflections. OFP (GOTY) used to run pretty choppy with more than a few units onscreen when I had all textures set over 1024*1024 anyway but the reflections didn't cause any more of a slowdown on top of that before. I dropped my landscape texture resolution down to 512*512, switched from 4xS AA to 2xQ AA and cut viewdistance to just under 1000m and it runs better than it ever has for me (over 50fps on most islands and 20-30 on more detailed islands like HC Meekong and Elmsalo) and dxdll postprocessing has litle or no impact now, but as soon as I switch on water reflections it drops to about 6 frames. I can live with this though considdering how well Flaspoint runs now no matter how many units are onscreen. Guess it's OFP showing its age with a slight incompatability with new hardware.

Some edited shots made using French addons by Operation Frenchpoint and Bizaroide. (Running dxdll of course)

I had a chat about how swastikas were censored in Germany a while ago with a German guy I know from another community. He said they're allowed to be shown in artistic and educational media such as films and documentaries but not strictly educational media such as video games where they know they can be removed. He also mentioned the "banning" of certain violent video games in that German stores are prohibited from stocking shelves with 18 rated games, but are allowed to sell them. Aparently this was done in the wake of some school shooting.

any good WW2 101st airborne units?
da12thMonkey replied to FHP_Intercepter's topic in ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
http://ofp.gamezone.cz/_hosted....ack.zip Addon pack for the missions that came with Trenchfeet's C47, it contains 101st AB units based on I44's 82nd AB model along with a couple of other things. -
Taking parts of a released addon to enhance your own is one thing, but to take parts of an unreleased addon from members of your own community (who you should hold some sort of mutual respect for in their similar persuit of producing quality addons) and pass them off as your own is downright disgraceful, and is a serious business when someone has been able to access your private files. Just as well I didn't download these I guess (I thought the helmets looked a bit dodgey so I never bothered). Any parts of the mechanised infantry DRF released a few weeks ago stolen?

GIGN addon (french special forces )
da12thMonkey replied to the wolf's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Links worked fine for me (turns out the FAMAS is in the GIGN zip too so I didn't actually have to download the FAMAS separate though ). They're really good work, I was thinking just the other day how OFP could do with some GIGN units. Any idea which sidearm they should use (as in real life)? I don't think they they use a Smith & Wesson revolver as these do. -
DXDLL 1.0 (not Geforce MX compatible)
da12thMonkey replied to kegetys's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Are your landscape textures set to 512*512 pixels or more? The minimum for reflections to work was either 512*512 or 1024*1024, I can't remember. -
New Anim pack for replacing Anim.pbo
da12thMonkey replied to Dreamy Knight's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
How are we meant to use the anims in the "New" folder? I tried making a .pbo with them in and using the switchmove command but nothing happened. Do you just have to put them in a mission folder or something and not pbo them or does it require defining them in a config.cpp in the pbo? If so I have absolutely no idea of how to write a config.cpp -
Am I misunderstanding this then? From http://campus.lakeforest.edu/~bell/astro/forrest/BLACKHOLES.HTML

New Anim pack for replacing Anim.pbo
da12thMonkey replied to Dreamy Knight's topic in ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Nice work. The pistol anims and the sneak anims are really good. Well worth the wait it took to re-pbo O.pbo The new safe anim is nice but I'd prefer if it were like the patrol anim, (or the safe anim in wilco's pack) as I've rarely seen troops sling rifles over their shoulders; this is just personal preference however. I'll run this as a mod every time I play OFP none the less. -
I don't think they could be warm as infra-red energy probably cannot escape a black hole (they absorb other electomagnetic waves such as light after all) and other heating processes such as convection currents wouln't work either because all particles move into the black hole so energised particles cannot convect heat away from the black hole. The matter collecting around the black hole on the other hand would generate a lot of heat as it collides in the vortex around the black hole. This is how they're photographed I believe.

Anyone working on a Kamov KA-32?
da12thMonkey replied to theavonlady's topic in ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
That was probably a Kamov Ka-27/8 'Helix.' The Ka-32 is an updated version by the looks. Ka-28: Seaking was an American design by Sikorsky. Westland bought the rights to build and market developments of the design. Except Apaches are notoriously weak to even small arms fire and can down themselves with the backblast from their own Hellfires. Anyhow, I think we could do with a few more Russian helicopters. Particularly transport ones. I'm getting kind of bored of the Mi-8/17 and Mi-24 carting my troops into battle even though CSLA2 made some really wonderfully skinned versions. -
The AV-8B is actually better comparable to the RAF's Harrier Gr.Mk.5. I think they were one and the same, or at least very nearly identical. The Gr.Mk.7 is an improved version of the Gr.Mk.5. I believe it has better night-attack abilities. The latest AV-8B, (the one in VBS1) the Harrier II Plus is an even more advanced model eqipped with radar and fleet protection capabilities like the Royal Navy's Harrier FRS2.

Someone from Liberation 1941-1945 mod made this Tokarev ironsight You can get it here: http://ofp.gamezone.cz/_hosted/lib4145/files/Lib_TT33_sight.rar but I guess you'll need permission to edit and repackage it. If that fails you could find somebody with Red Orchestra mod for Unreal Tournament 2003/2004, that has a Tokarev with an ironsight view which they can take a screenshot from.
