    COMBAT! Addons Release!

Fantastic work yet again COMBAT. Though in the readme for the HEMMT pack it says this: However, for me the model for the M2 MG looks exactly the same as the one in the previous release, not the new one with the open-topped ammo box and new barrel that I see on the latest M113 release.

Hunt the intruder - out-flank him

Not even a Gr.Mk7/9? I'm just wondering if the two nosewheels on the A-6 are a little too thin and maybe a little too close together as well, something doesn't look right about them to me. Anyhow, good work, 2 very solid addons, looking forward to your current projects being released. P.S. I'd like to suggest a Bristol Beaufighter, I'd really like to see a nice WW2 attack plane that uses CoC's torpedoes.

Probably a way of earning a quick buck putting bets on whether you can beat someone else at the game... kinda like that movie White Men Can't Jump.

    Football Legend Dies

It's great to see fans come together with such respect for the strong personalities of football as it used to be (and many people who love the game still wish it was) such as Clough, who was one of the last remaining parts of those days that we still had. It's such a shame that such a large part of that that aspect of football is lost with Brian.

    Code M OFP2 Survey

Yea I got the email too. I found some of the options quite disconcerting like the American Civil War one, it scared me that that idea even came into someone's head as a basis for the entire game of OFP2. It's definitely something for the modders to do, not BIS/CM. As for WW2 and Vietnam, surely those have been done to death now? I agree with you on the issue of ragdolls, I too ranked that particularly low compared to the other potential features, most of which looked to enhance gameplay somewhat, although I wasn't sure about the skill progression thing either, that somehow just doesn't appeal to me. Hopefully more CM subscribers who recieve this email will be prodominant PC gamers so that the data returned will suggest that the PC version is more important than the console ports.

    Fox hunting Ban

Yes, but in the UK, using more large areas of land solely for conservation is not very feasable, for is it required. Mostl of the countryside here is occupied by farmland (as it has done for hundreds of years) which is just about big enough to support the current industry AFAIK, and current farming practices in the UK aren't usually detrimental to wildlife (except ground-nesting birds such as lapwings) as most of them are well adapted to life in farmland, and many of our national parks and reserves are used for farming. It's not like we clear vast areas of natural countryside for the sake of creating farmland, because there is very little of that left now (apart from wetlands but most of these are nature reserves now anyway). The remaining land in the countryside will probably be required for housing very soon as there is a bit of a housing crisis in the UK right now, there aren't enough cheap ones for sale, and new ones aren't being built quick enough to keep up with demand. The UK is a pretty small island, after all so we have to be careful with our land use nowadays. Besides, this is about foxes anyway, those are thriving in the modern countryside and don't need protection, which is why we have to cull them to protect other species, wild and livestock.

    Fox hunting Ban

Has anyone actually studied the stress levels on a fox during a hunt or anything like that? I honestly reckon the adrenaline levels in a fox as it's being chased are great enough that it wouldn't get too stressed until it was cornered or after it escaped. I thought part of the fight or flight mechanism in most animals was there so that they didn't get terrified when chased and freeze. Also, poisoning rural fox populations is unfeasable, they eat fresh meat as much as possible and you can't lace a live chicken with poison without killing it. The only reason they can do it in urban areas is because urban foxes raid bins and landfill sites eating anything out of them so it's possible to put poisons in the bin that the foxes may consume. There is also little or no adverse knock-on effect from poisons entering the food-chain within an urban environment because a decaying fox carcass can be usually be found and removed by council workers, and anything found in cities that feeds on carrion is usually vermin anyway so nobody gives two-shits what else the poison gets passed on to and kills. In the countryside however there are more important species that will feed on carrion such as raptors (falcons, eagles etc, not the dinosaurs :P) and ravens which are in decline in some areas, so their deaths from ingesting poisons found in the meat of a fox's carcass will be noticed.

    Fox hunting Ban

I'm not in favour of banning it because it doesn't offend me to see a fox ran into exhaustion and subsequently torn apart by dogs (seems to me that people who want it banned are only offended by the thought of that) but I don't see how a so-called sport is so important to country life in the UK that people think that it will ruin their way of life to get rid of it so a ban doesn't bother me in the slightest either. The whole argument seems trivial to me. As far as I'm conscerned they may as well keep things as they are, the current system works fine for controlling foxes and it saves the police and the government a lot of hassel enforcing such a ban, and even though fox-hunting and hare-coursing (which is also being banned) are cruel, I don't think they're any more cruel than shooting the animal. Foxes have to be controlled and shooting them is inefficient and is no less painless or instant a death when the time comes for them to be ripped apart by the pack of dogs. The kill rate for hunts with dogs are much higher than those with a rifle anyway so a ban would probably prove expensive to the country.

Enthusiasts Eye Assault Rifles as Ban Nears End

Please explain how you think banning assault rifles make it easier to sell illegal ones? Sure they might be able to sell more of theirs because the people who want them wont be able to get them legally, but if people are immoral ennough to purchase illegally smuggled weapons surely they're not fit to own such a weapon legally or otherwise. Besides, I think it'd make it easier for the authorites to identify the weapons as smuggled, because they smuggler can't argue that they've been obtained legally and are to be sold legally, the customs guys would just say "Tough shit, they're illegal anyway, you're booked." and seize their entire cache, along with any 'legal' stuff like handguns and shotguns that they would be smuggling.

Enthusiasts Eye Assault Rifles as Ban Nears End

I'm not talking about gun crime, I'm talking about violent crime in general (Assaults, rapes, etc). And those statistics have been widely reported by news agencies (CBS comes to my mind). Crime rate figures are a load of crap when you want to compare situations, they only account for crimes that actually get reported the real figures are always higher. Maybe people in the UK are just more inclined to report crimes than people in the US?

Any thoughts on what Russia's consequent response in Chechnya will be? Or will there even be one? Personally I think things there have already gotten far worse than they should be for both sides so I hope there is no large scale action by Russia because it wont go well for them. Anyhow I'm happy this horrible event is over, though it could have potentially gone so much better given better organisation: the military coped amongst themselves as best as could be expected but measures to prevent interference by the crowds should have been in place soon after this kicked off, or more favourably, more time (though it seems the timing of today's events were scheduled by nobody). However things could have been worse also, and we have to be thankful that they weren't. I just hope people try to be objective about this and see it as the actions of a very fucked up minority, that speak only for themselves and perhaps a few others:- I can't see such a policy of directly victimising children as being acceptable even among some other very extreme individuals, though it seems other people think otherwise; and look at finding a resolve for the greater problem from which this is an accute tangent, before it goes more tit-for-tat.

    Summer Highlights

The weather's been pretty damn abysmal this summer in the UK so I haven't really had any of the lazy days at the beach of yesteryear, so instead I've been fishing on the few sunny days I had to enjoy during the 2 weeks I had off work. Other than that I've just spent time with friends and family, celebrated quite a lot of birthdays (so I've been eating some good food and drinking good too), gone down the pub etc. I've managed to get an ear infection this week (the first back at work ) so I get a little more time off and the weather has been nice all this week (bloody typical: now my proper holiday's over) so I have something to enjoy despite the fact that I feel like I've been shot in the head, and I can heal up in my hammock in the back garden while drinking a few lagers.

    ideas for addons

Even though it's a valid point I don't think mentioning other stereotypes is going to help matters here. Even raising them offends people. I think a locking of this topic is looking pretty certain now... even more so than before .

    ideas for addons

Who said the models were to represent Americans? Admitedly I drew the same connotation from the post but I'm pretty sure we should give the benefit of the doubt here and assume the american landscape and fat civy models are indirectly linked suggestions.

What about Inquisitor's M113 with vulcan? I'm quite sure if the quality of addonmaking we see today was possible back in the very early days of Flashpoint we'd have asked of addonmakers then what we ask of them now.

    Updated UH-60 Blackhawks for OFP

How abou having the copilot seat as a cargo proxy with a script that spawns another pilot model in that proxy when the helicopter is initialised, I seem to remember this in DKM's Challenger 2 where a 4th crew member is created as the loader in the tank's cargo position when you place one in the game. Dare I suggest making some Seahawks by the way?

    The best war movie ever

I watched 'Tigerland' last night and I have to say I enjoyed it a lot. I thought it was a lot like Full Metal Jacket where FMJ seems brutal, and darkly comic in the excesses of its horrors Tigerland felt more emotional. I dunno if everyone'd class it as a war film though, because it's about training for Vietnam as most of Full Metal Jacket was.
