IIRC we bought the Leyland/DAF DROPS around 1993 and the 4-tonne GS's around 1994-1995. The MAN vehicles aren't expected to start replacing the current truck fleet until around 2007 so there's a few years left in the Bedfords and DAFs. The DPA's article on the MAN ERF contract

On which OFP island would you spend your holiday ?
da12thMonkey replied to hornile's topic in GENERAL
McNool's Pacific or FDF's Maldevic so long as it didn't rain (nothing worse than dead leaves turning to mulch on the path when it's wet). I dare say I'd go for AEF's island too, it's the only one that has a railway after all. Of the standard OFP islands I'd go for Nogova because of its varied terrain. -
Mr.2 or Mr.4? Either way I'd love to see a Nimrod in OFP, it's a stunning aircraft.

I had a few days off at the start of this week to I decided to go south for a couple of days of sea fishing in Cornwall around Polperro, a nice little harbour town: >100kb Unfortunately the weather wasn't so great while I was there: the day the weather took a real turn for the worse I said bollocks to the fishing and decided to take a look around the Eden Project: >100kb >100kb

I had a sneaking suspicion that I wouldn't be able to hotlink the images

Pretty much, it's mainly just additional bumps and stuff for updated avionics and one or two additions to the airframe. The main difference is that all the newest ones have angular BERP (British Experimental Rotor Project) blades like those on the G-Lynx and Merlin. Removable dampeners on the exhasts and an AN/ALQ-144A under the root of the tail boom as IR countermeasure systems are sometimes fitted to both the army's types; the AH-7 and AH-9 which is the non TOW-capable Lynx with tricycle landing gear. In addition the AH-7 attack helicopters also have a gyro-stabilised periscope on the roof (this isn't always on the utility AH-7s). The only differenece that's really noticible on the normal naval Lynxes (HAS-3S) is a little sensor on the nose. Then of course there's the HMA-8 Super Lynx that has a completely different nose with an ASW radar and targeting system. Lynx AH-7 with the IR missile countermeasures and a GPMG mount http://www.airliners.net/open.file/653326/M/ Lynx AH-9 with just the AN/ALQ-144A http://www.airliners.net/open.file/675465/M/ Lynx HAS-3S http://www.airliners.net/open.file/637166/M/ Lynx HMA-8 http://www.airliners.net/open.file/637884/M/ EDIT: Damn airliners.net's inability to hotlink images.

It's also on MAN ERF's British site and there are a couple of British newssites who are lamenting that the contract was lost by a British company (LDV) in favour of a German one.

Yes you need to open up the pbo, you can't get at the config file otherwise. To change the crew you need to find the part of the config that says "crew=" and change the name after that to the classname of the unit you want to crew the thing.

Did you download the NEW weapons pack (V3.0) and delete the old ICP_Weap.pbo?
-
Yea, the Bedfords are on the way out, MAN vehicles have been selected to replace the British Army's truck fleet. Not to say you shouldn't make some though, they're good for past scenarios and I'd certainly like to see some.

I generally don't bother downloading sci-fi addons unless they're very good looking addons; otherwise they don't really interest me; I rarely use the ones I do have. However I have no problem with people making them, addonmakers can make whatever the hell they like (though I prefer that it's somthing new to OFP or noticibly different to someone else's version of it in terms of gameplay). It's their hobby and it's their time that they spend making addons, they shouldn't care if I'm interested in the final product or not because all decisions about the addon are ultimately up to them.

Supposedly that's us Brits The units and their weapons look great, can't wait for the release.

Nice pics everyone Footmunch's awesome F-14B Tomcat

Now that's very impressive. I was thinking the other day about how nice a Sea King (a good one, I know there are already a few) would be and was wondering if folding rotor blades for carrier deck stowage would be possible, seems it is. Unless that's some sort of static model? Anyhow the Stallions look really fantastic, how are the LAVs doing?

was there ever in opf a free harriere???
da12thMonkey replied to aviel's topic in ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
I'm not sure why who's Harrier is favourite needs to be contested when their of completely different generations, their scripts for stuff like STOVL might be comparable but their use within the game is separated by the period of history they represent. It's not like we can choose to delete one in favour of replacing the other seeing as their almost completely different aircraft, and their use is largely dependant on which theater of war the player wishes to play... but so long as their transition from conventional flight to a hover requires a stopping distance that is somewhat shorter than that of a supertanker this time, I'll be happy. I'm confident both will kick-ass and I'll be very happy to have both in my addon collection. Someone should really make a Gr.Mk.7/9 though... -

The Ukraine Mod were making a Tu-160 Backfire, the mod's dead but I think I remember reading that the ORCS were taking over some of their work to complete, not sure if this ever came to be, I'm just informing you that there is a possiblility of one being released if you think this would make Phoenixes beneficial to and already great addon. OFP.info newspost on the Tu-160 -
There's nowt wrong with that. People just dislike the fact that it causes problems in society that probably outweigh the benefits of it, like violence, unprotected sex, health problems etc. I'm not saying people drink because they want to be the same, that's not a particularly good thing, I'm just saying that because many people drink it's a normal part of society, it's practically everywhere, so people feel invited to do it because they know it's something everyone can enjoy. They know this because other people do it, so effectively they follow into it.

The fact that you don't give a damn about those things when you're doing it. True it's not for everyone, I was a bit aprehensive about getting drunk/stoned before I tried it. I suppose you could see trying to escape from the realities of life as a bit of a weakness but it's nice to do sometimes, though I mainly do/did it to be social. Yes I am somewhat of a sheep but in British culture you're 'supposed' to go down the pub and have a pint or two every so often, it feels right by me to do so, and it's generally accepted as a decent thing.

Well the current establishment in Iran is kind of Britain's fault in that we helped the CIA to orchestrate the events that led to Iran's first democratically elected government being toppled in 1953, replacing it with the suppressive Shah government who were eventually overthrown by the Islamic revolution of 1979, that would supposedly make Iranians better off than under the Shah reigime. It's not just Tehran we've been buggering about with, we've been doing it to the Iranian people for the past 50 years, not to mention what we've been doing to their Islamic brethren, so I feel they're inclined to be pissed at us. I think it's quite understandable that Iran is fearful of the west given that we've overthrown the Iranian government, and others in the Middle-East countless times in the past to secure oil trade. Especially considdering that a number of the reigimes we've supported in the past have become oppressive given the absolute power our money gave them, and the fact that the country is now boxed in between countries where the west has once again toppled the governments (Iraq and Afghanistan). I know I'd be thinking "We'll be next." I don't support Tehran in what they're doing but I can understand it, and I certainly don't think it's up to us to show force against it, it'll just end up bloody. The world's governements who would normally ally together to deal with such a situation militarilly are now either overstretching it with Iraq already, or were unwilling to do so under suposedly similar circumstances with Iraq, and will be especially sceptical given the shite-hole that's been dug there, so it's not like we're capable of doing anything about it for the next few years anyway. Threatening words wont get us anywhere when we're not really in a good position to act on them, even if we were it's unlikely anybody would end up better off.

I used to drink really heavilly when I was about 19 and it did some pretty bad damage to my health for a while, until I realised that I definitely needed to cut out the drinking binges and stick to simple moderate drinking unless I wanted to go the way of George Best or wind up dead. I didn't drink in such a way long enough for it to effect my long-term health so I can carry on having a pint once a week with the lads without feeling that I'm killing myself any more than they are. It's not like I've given up drinking (so I guess I shouldn't be posting here really...:P) but I've realised that I don't need to get pissed out of my skull and sleep in a dustbin to get the most out of alcohol, it's not worth it. I also used to smoke weed from time to time, like if I was at a party or somet and my friends had some on them (which they quite often did). I never considdered buying my own and smoking it regularly like my friends did, always seemed a waste of money too me and I could see smoking it alot didn't do my friends any good. I'd smoke another couple of joints if I was offered at an 'apropriate' time, I'm not afraid of doing so, (how can I be I've done it before) it's just that nobody I know really does it any more, I suppose we've just matured past such lives of leisure. I suppose that's a good thing.

I do not think it is the job of the U.S. to keep peace in the world, not our place at all. TO defend our selves is the job of the military. Your right, Iraq and Kosovo are two different things. To me Kosovo was a place Americans did not belong, they were nt hurting us. Those people over there were fighting eachother, the muslims and the "christians". Ofcourse we sided with one group, which both were bad, but if we should have took no side. So you don't think it was worthwhile stopping the Serbs from wiping out an entire race of people from the Balkans? Or do you forget that the premise of NATO's involvement in Kosovo was to stop ethnic cleansing, not to simply stop the Balkans war? I know they hate Americans, and don't give me some crap that they don't. That the only reason they fight us is becuase we invaded Iraq, or something like that. Thats just stupid. The religion the practice will not allow true freedom, nor for any other beliefes to be allowed. You think they dislike you for no good reason? They considder you a threat to their values, same as you considder AQ a threat to yours. Some aspects of Western culture clash heavilly with Islamic values so the fact that they're bombarded with stuff that they don't belive is right to the extent that it threatens to engulf their culture and turn it into something else so that they can be considdered more economically viable by the West will undoubtedly piss people off a great deal. Islamic Fundamentalism isn't about destroying the enemies of Islam, it's about returning Islam to its original values. Ill give it to you, I have not done hours of research on the religion. Still, when a whole group of people hate you(of the same religion), even people who are not from the ME, commom snese should let you know something is not right. Read the Koran, how it talks of killing the infadales. An infidel is someone who does not hold a faith. In this case someone who does not follow Islam. Similar sentiments of killing those who do not follow your religion have been expressed by other religions many times throughout history. It's wrong but it's nothing new.

By Full Conversion do you mean it'll have its own modified config that alters certain aspects of OFP, hence isn't compatable with other modifications like FDF or CSLA? Or do you just mean you're going to release it as one big pack with a campaign where everything is bound together by a centralised config file that'll work with other mods including Full Conversions (FDF etc) like the I44 demo and BOH?
