    Project UK Forces

The Panther's designed to replace and supplement certain specialist versions of Land Rover, Saxon and some CVR(T)s, such as command and reconnaissance vehicles, it will also be used to transport special-role troops. It's being quoted as a replacement for the Ferret armoured car as it's designed to fulfil a specialist role that's been covered by all of the above vehicles, none of which have been especially well suited for the job. It wont be deployed on a scale anywhere near that of the current Land Rover fleet. And Matt, Dutch Marines also use Wolfs IIRC, they don't have the same WMIK as us for theirs though. AFAIK, Americans use Land Rover, Ranger Special Operation Vehicles, which aren't quite the same as the British Wolf/WMIK; IIRC they're based on old Defender chassis with a four-door set-up rather than the two-door ones we have.

    Sabot or High Explosive?

That's how a HEAT shell works. HESH works by having the head of the round and the plastic explosive inside, flatten out against the surface of whatever it hits before exploding (the fuse has a short delay on it to allow this). It's designed to create a shock-wave that causes pieces of the inner hull of the vehicle to break off and spray about, causing damage over a large volume inside the vehicle. It's not designed to penetrate armour per-sé, but can do depending on how little there is.

Only goes up to 2048 in FlashpointPreferences for me as well mate. So I guess it's the card; IIRC my old NVidia card went higher.

Check Hardware T&L remains on when you switch up the Objects LOD setting. I get similar texture blurring with my Radeon 9800 when HW T&L goes off.

NATO? Is that the Blue & Green camo? Didn't know we ever had GR.7s painted like that. Fancy doing an 'arctic' version too? http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1003160/L/ I'm really looking forward to this anyhow Rock, the number of features you're planning for it is astonishing. A Harrier with key-bound thrust vectoring is a dream come true mate. Quick question though; have you done any work worth mentioning on the Nimrod recently? I was down sort of RAF Cottesmore-Wittering way the other week when one flew over. Looked like they'd gone and painted it grey like all the other planes we have. Reminded me to ask about yours.

RHS Naval Spetsnaz yes, but where's the Groza from? Looks like it's made by ORCS but there isn't one in their latest weapon pack AFAIK.

    dod source free weekend

Downloaded it Thursday but I haven't hadn't an opportunity to play it 'til last night/this morning. It's fun for a while but it's not to my taste, it's too fast-paced. I don't think it modifies the gameplay of plain old HL2 or CS:S to warrant me buying it either; feels like CS but with recoil. Looks pretty though. I'll stick to playing Red Orchestra for the time being. No WW2 FPS has even come close to that in my opinion, and it's a million miles away from the engine it was developed for. Â Ostfront '41-'45 (also coming to Steam) should blow this away.

    The Middle East part 2

I agree with the fact that most of islamic nations provide more time and consider more efforts to religion than to some other more significant fields. But discussing about the 'bases' of islam, on its structure and how it's seen by moslems would require a deep analysis based on historical and political events. In any way, I think that one should avoid offending others beliefs unnecessarily. And once again, freedom of speech should not be uselessy used. Best Regards Thunderbird84 Meanwhile an intresting cartoon which interestingly illustrates  the apparently single sided self declared monopoly on respect the muslim world at large is trying to win. http://www.filibustercartoons.com/comics/20060204.gif So because some vile, hateful people get away with doing it, it's okay for professional western media to do the same thing? There are plenty of Muslim out there who don't agree with publishing these sort of cartoons, so suggesting that they as a religion deserve to have a taste of the same medicine, is daft. The ones that do agree with such images are probably the ones out there sending bomb threats, burning flags and telling us all how we should all have our throats slit. I don't think anyone here has any doubt that these people in particular are a bunch of twats, and rightly deserve to be ridiculed/shot out of a cannon. But drawing Mohamed with a bomb for a noggin' is too big a generalisation of Muslims. It points a wicked finger at people who do not deserve to be forcibly associated with such wankers.

    The Middle East part 2

Whole thing reminds me of this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/tv_and_radio/4154071.stm Some of the quotes from the white, European, Christian folk are pretty choice. Not forgetting how they stood outside there, burning their TV licenses and sent death-threats to various BBC execs even before the thing was broadcasted. Same goes for the release of The Life of Brian, groups slated it and cinemas banned that without ever actually watching it and it wasn't even about Christ himself. Additionally, some groups have been criticising Steven Spielberg recently for even allowing a portrayal of aspects of the Palestinian point of view in Munich; so much for freedom of speech in the West. Don't see how people can generalise such behaviour as an Islamic thing. I'm all for freedom of speech but surely we should have an equal right to express outrage when we're offended by what's said, it's an act of speaking out after all. I don't support any actual acts of violence that are consequent to this and I recognise the double-standards that exist in the media in the Middle East regarding disrespect to other religions. I can't agree with all this 'two wrongs make it right' stuff that presents itself so commonly with regards to the ME. Particularly when we're supposedly the more civilised party in all this. Surely making a greater effort to maintain the moral high-ground would make us better placed to judge all the bad shit that goes on in the ME.

Is it a bomb, or an external fuel tank?

Thay are indeed fuel tanks, they're called "Hindenburgers". The fins will just be there for aerodynamic reasons. By the thing on the end of the wing, do you mean that grey pointy thing on the outermost pylon? It's part of the countermeasures system, I think that one's the chaff/flare dispenser.

    Isle Of Man

Ouch. Poor sheep. My uncle did the TT a while ago (2004 I think it was). Came back with a collarbone and a foot broken. His bike (a race-modified CBR-600) was okay though AFAIK. Nice work Nick, terrain looks great. Nice to have some British soil in OFP.

    Llauma Head 2.0

I was thinking exactly the same thing. They all have blue eyes at the moment. IIRC brown eyes are more common since they're a dominant allele.

    Happy new year

Happy new year folks. Can't say mine's going to start all that happy (a relative died the other day so I'm going to start 2006 burying them) hopefully it gets a bit better after that. At least tonight should be alright though; I'm well stocked with booze.

The blokes at SAAB are really nice people. I was in touch with them a few years ago through work. When we finished sorting everything out with them they sent me a load of really nice stuff including a printed artwork of the JAS-39B Gripen, framed and everything. I have it hung up on my wall.

Sgt. Andy Stevens (Warpig) has died in Iraq

My condolences. It's put some perspective on the terrible, day-to-day loss of life in Iraq for me. Even though I have very little real knowledge of Andy himself it's brought the reality of war closer to me again. Very sad.

RHS Releases: T80 MBT Pack v.1

I've noticed that the barrel recoil and muzzle flash scripts for the T-55 pack (V1.21, which is the latest public release right?) no longer work for me. Could it caused by the new RHS_Misc.pbo, or is it another addon conflict?
