They fire rounds that do no damage so yea, they fire blanks effectively. Can be used for training or just for aesthetics.

F-35 Joint Strike Fighter gets official name

I know it can land vertically with a full compliment of weapons, what I said was that as far as I was aware, it cannot take off vertically to go into combat due to weight etc. I know both the F-35B and Harrier can take off vertically but AFAIK, not under conditions where they're expected to perform a combat role after a vertical take off. Can Harrier and F-35B take off vertically with weapons and a reasonable amount of fuel then? What I was explaining to mp_phoenix was that, neither operate as a VTOL aircraft due to them not performing the vertical take off component required to perform in the literal sense of VTOL, prior to performing its function as a combat aircraft, and that a short take off is performed instead of a vertical one.

F-35 Joint Strike Fighter gets official name

Typically the F-35B wont take off vertically as it places a lot of stress on the engines, damages the surface that the aircraft takes off from, and it's unlikely that the aircraft will be able to perform VTOL (Vertical Take Off and Landing) with a combat load (weapons and aditional fuel). Instead it'll operate as a STOVL (Short Take Off, Vertical Landing) aircraft like the Harrier does currrently.

Football World Cup 2006 in Germany

I kinda want Italy to win so I remain 2nd in the prediction league: If France win, me and Placebo get shifted down a place, and Thunderbird84 wins. On the other hand, I think Zidane lifting that trophy at the end of his final game would be great. 3rd place is hardly bad for me either... The Germany-Portugal game last night was brilliant btw, all of the goals scored were crackers and it had a great tempo. Congrats to Germany.

    How can you do this?

You can't fire the AT weapons, no. The animations are part of a static animations pack released a while back by ORCS with some other addon (I think it may have been the first version of their effects pack but I'm not sure). The animations are triggered using the 'switchmove' command in the editor, either using a trigger or a waypoint with the line unitname switchmove "icpaimX", replacing the X with a number; the RPG animations were 7 for standing, 8 for crouched and 9 for laying down IIRC. Again, you couldn't fire the RPG while playing these anims, nor could you move so they're only really useful for setting up staged scenes like screenshots. Some of the other aim animations in the pack designed for rifles and MGs did allow you to fire however, so they were a little more useful; but you still couldn't move, also you couldn't reload once the gun's magazine was emptied.

F-35 Joint Strike Fighter gets official name

Hope the RAF don't refer to it as 'Lightning II' though I can't recall other aircraft where we've opted against the manufacturer's name. I think sticking a II (especially in roman numerals) on the end is just tacky. We didn't call Eurofighter, 'Typhoon II' after all, despite the fact it was named Typhoon for similar reasons as to why F-35 has been named Lightning. I don't mind tanks like Challenger 2 and Leopard 2 being named as such, because they're the direct replacement for the vehicle they bear the name of, and have similar characteristics. Neither case is true between the F-35 and the English Electric Lightning or P-38.

No, actually from my web browser: http://news.google.com/news?hl....rrested (Google News search on "fans arrested") You can browse through page after page and they are all about English fans getting arrested. That's a very poor way of generating statistical sample. Simply looking at the number of news-pages in english with a mention of hooliganism or fan arrests as a measure of the population of fan-violence in Germany is extremely un-reliable: as stated, there will be multiple articles on the same event, the news stories are in English, so they are far more likely to be about English fans: There's something out there called the concept of News Values, that describes the conventions of news stories that are published, relative to the expectations and interests of the publication's audience; basically, anything about english-speaking people, is more likely to be published by english-speaking media outlets, than if it's about who are further outside the audience's cultural proximity, especially if the story agrees with the audience's prior expectations. If you searched, say a Polish news-page for stories about fans being arrested, you'd probably find more stories about polish fans being arrested. This effects search engines especially, since the pages with the most hits will be returned before those that have been looked at less. Creating a sample by sytematically going from the first result, to the next result until you have looked at as many results as you want for your sample is highly unlikely to create statistics that represent the entire population you're investigating; especially if the results are in some sort of order, rather than arranged randomly. This method would only come close to being a reliable measure if you read the figures on the number of fans arrested in all 1,170 articles the search returns, and eliminated repeated incidents. Unless you have figures for the total number of fans arrested, and the team they support (or at least their nationality) you can't really claim that english fans are statistically the worste. I'm not denying that there is the posibility or indeed any liklihood, that we've had more arrests then any other nation (especially as the Poles were knocked out in the first round ), but I think it's unreasonable to claim it its a statistical fact. Like I said, I'm interested in seeing some genuine statistics from say the German police; I'm conscerned by any violence comitted by English fans and want to know if we really are cleaning up our act, and deserve the reputation we still seem to have. Oh, and congrats to France!

The arm patches haven't been sorted yet, they're remnants from BLEED. Messiah was wondering if anyone'd spot that a pic of 16AAB standing next to a Warrior, was strange. AFAIK the Para helmet will be modeled for the Paras though.

Got a link where the statistics are published, out of interest? I've been looking for them myself Oh and stainer, FIFA recognises China as the birthplace of football. There are records of it there before there are any in the UK.

The Lennon thing definitely wasn't a penalty, they got the ball cleanly. I'm not sure on Rooney getting sent of, couldn't really tell how much intent there was with regards to stepping on the chaps nads. Ronaldo was acting like a complete tosser though. In the end, the whole Rooney thing wasn't a deciding factor in my eyes, he held the ball well for Lampard, Gerrard and on occasion the Coles, to come in down the wings, but Crouchy did it slightly better. Our performance wasn't the best, but it was spirited and our defense didn't bugger up as much as they have done previously. I think we deserved to win because of our attitude; some of Portugese side has cast a poor light over the rest of the team in at least the past 2 games, something that I think is a shame considering the talent of many of those players. Unfortunately it was decided on penalties, which don't favour any side, regardless of how much they want or deserve to win a game. IMO it came down to who had a better keeper. Glad we went down fighting after some pretty poor performances though. I figured that if there was one game we deserved to win during this tournament, that was it; but looking back on the whole thing we probably didn't deserve to reach this stage.

    SJB Weapons Pack Released

Looking good Jackal. Can I suggest using the ELCAN Hi-Mag you added to the HK-416 marksman varient and Minimi way back, rather then the ACOG. Fits in with the usual Diemaco-ELCAN luv we see going on with rifles in Canadian service rather nicely. http://sjb.gotf.net/weapons....mag.jpg Looks cool with an ACOG though, and it's your mind's creation afterall.

    Eurofighter Typhoon beta

eurofighter.com quotes the Air Superiority loadout as 6 x BVRAAM 6 x ASRAAM 2 x 1500 litre fuel tank 1 x 1000 litre fuel tank [this, "ACES_METEOR", "ACES_METEOR", "BWMOD_EF_FUEL", "ACES_AIM132x2", "ACES_AIM132"] exec "\aces\scr\aces_payload.sqs" Though Meteor isn't currently in service, so I'd go for MRAAMs rather than BVRAAMs (i.e "ACES_AIM120" rather than "ACES_METEOR"). Try using "BWMOD_EF_FUEL" instead of "ACES_FUEL340" on the other loadouts too mate. It's a Eurofighter specific tank rather than the generic one; looks better. Have a gander at http://www.eurofighter.com/Typhoon/SwingRole/ "Mission Configuration" for various suggested loadouts too. Though they don't appear to be nation specific.

Fella's still recovering from his broken foot. Before the tournament we didn't even expect to have him playing by this stage. The very fact that we were considering it had Man. Utd. *cough*scum*cough* up in arms. His fitness is probably way down so no wonder he's not performing amazingly. Give the lad a break. He may have been angry at the fact that he can't play as well as he'd like to, rather than because he was subbed. Hargreaves played alright the first half I though but should he bollocks take Beckham's place. Like the rest of the England camp here have said, our performance in the second half was a collapse. I don't think the Swedes outclassed us on their own merit at any point so I don't think they deserved a win. The fact that they scored at all was our mistake.

    Eurofighter Typhoon beta

I think the AGM-154C's most like Storm Shadow, both are for attacking hardened targets IIRC. A and B carry sub-munitions. btw, "BWMOD_FUEL" doesn't work, it should be "BWMOD_EF_FUEL"

Thanks for releasing this Hardrock. It's pretty damn good deaspite being unfinished. Loading it up with 228 Hydra rockets is a lot of fun. I can't drop bombs from it though. Is this one of the bugs that need fixing or are there some special requirements to allow bombing runs: altitude, laser designator etc?

Football World Cup 2006 in Germany

First half's play was just too slow, we needed the break to start a fresh. Thank God for John Terry in that half too. I think we played really well at times during second half, thanks largely to Lennon, and Ashley Cole bringing the pace up IMO. Cole was neglecting his defending duties a bit though. Still leaves a lot to be desired. Another 3 points for me! 2nd in the league with JdB now!

Indeed, a good friend of mine works as a grease monkey on Tonkas at Boscomb Down, says they go unservicable on the flight line (about to take off) 2 or 3 of every 5-7 flights. That and 5 mins flying time generates 5 hours of maintenance time (exaggeration, but you get the point) The ones at Boscombe are still Gr.1s and F.2 aren't they? In other word's they're ancient.

AFAIK it's mostly TA and support regiments that drive around in Bedfords nowadays. Line units usually have Leyland DAFs which are slightly more modern, if a little less robust. Similar to how TA units still have a lot of Defenders, where the rest of our forces have Wolfs for the most part. The whole truck fleet's being replaced by MAN vehicles like the Germans have, when the Beddies and DAFs have fallen apart. Which they have been for a while, but they're very easy to fix and we still have loads of spares for them. Same reason we're still using Saxons: they share a lot of parts with Beddies. As for the box on the back of the Bedford, if it has smooth sides it may have been a signals or radar operation vehicle.

I predicted 2-0. Finally I get 3 points! Moves me up from 20th, to 8th! Pretty boring game, especially the 2nd half. Essien was good though. I enjoyed the Czech game earlier. I hope they go far in the tournament. Hope Croatia do well against Brazil tomorrow too.

Fantastic match! The draw was well deserved after the half, both teams played some wonderful football. T&T went way beyond my expectations; disappointing for the Swedes though I guess.
