    ArmA 2

This could have gone a whole lot better if BIS didn't publicise a ball-park release date. Surely they could have learned that one from just about every mod and addon maker here. This announcement hasn't shown me anything to get excited over, since it's almost entirely visual, and currently there's not that much that sets it apart from ArmA at decent settings. However, I'm not deterred since there's not really anything concrete in announcement that disappoints me, I've had a lot of fun playing ArmA and I generally accepted its limitations, even if I do get a bit frustrated by some of them. Currently, the information provided on this game leaves me wondering what makes it a sequel to ArmA worthy of ArmA's stature as the sequel to OFP given it's visual and technical advances over it's predecessor. Honestly though, I haven't been shown the anything of the gameplay; refinements to the core engine nor how the player interacts with the game environment this time. This is what will define this game as a sequel to ArmA for me, not what it looks like. As a result, it's unreasonable for me to speculate that BIS haven't made any significant advances over ArmA, simply based on the visual similarities. There are certain features of ArmA 2 that I'll be sorely disappointed about if they're overlooked, but as yet there's nothing to suggest these wont be there.
  2. And according to the MoD: http://www.mod.uk/Defence....ime.htm I think there were two interceptions back in June or July that were performed by Tornados though.

    Mopar lives!

Agreed, Camaros looked alright in the 60s but since the 70s they've been pretty hideous, and that concept one just looks daft. Aston Martin V8, now there is a car that's been awesome since the 70's. 77/78 Vantage especially. http://news-images.caradisiac.com/IMG....867.jpg Is that jumping the full length of the buses? I've only managed 2 lengthways, on level ground, using a single ramp. 6 sounds about right if you're jumping across the width of them. I've noticed that having passengers in the car actually seems to effect things: More often than not I'd clip the front of the first bus (due to not gaining enough height off the ramp) when I had a passenger. I made the same jump every time if it only had a driver. Didn't know ArmA's 'physics' were sensitive to things like that.

    Mopar lives!

These are brilliant Sig. Yesterday I was jumping a couple of buses parked lengthways against the concrete ramp object at Paraiso's runway with them. Started setting up triggered explosions and spotlights and stuff to see how mad a stunt I could make it. Lots of fun.

    UNA British Mod

Excuse me, but he was banned because of his attitude in response to people prior to the involvement of UKF coming to light. Additionally, he had 4 warning levels, which if I am to understand the forum rules correctly, warrents harsher punishment than those with fewer warning levels (i.e yourself). However, this is not the place to discuss the moderator's reaction to this incident, take it up with them if you like, but it's no business of ours. Rest assured that this matter has been settled by all interested parties satisfactorily, without the unfortunate aggression and name-calling displayed by by members of this forum who were not directly involved. Hopefully, this ends the matter, and this thread finally gets locked after numerous calls for it to be so.

jerry, I'm doing some images to compare the meshes of the stock at the moment, that i'll PM to you. I'll also include a list of other similarities with the UKF L96 package. In the meantime, I suggest you take Rock's advise and download our L96 pack yourself and compare the texture files and whatever else you like, so you can compare my findings. You can get the original UKF L96 pack for OFP here: http://www.pukf.net/forum/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item8 Rest assured I'm not doing this out of spite or any ill will towards you. I respect your preference for clear comparison of the parts in question, I just don't think it requires quite this much debate.

No, all I've done is download the addon to check the validity of initial accusations by Frandsen and others. By the time I'd done this the initial matter was resolved here. However, I discovered that there were additional issues with regards to author's permissions, that needed to be addressed by members of UNA. This matter I left to be handled privately by other members of UKF, who were directly concerned in this second matter. I have since been so far as to inquire with Franze whether UKF members will be able to PM armatech in-spite of his post-restriction, in case UKF wish to persue the matter further (which by all accounts, we don't feel the need to do at this point). My post here was designed to highlight this second matter for people who wish to download the addon in good conscience. Given that the initial matter was resolved, there may have been members such as Manzilla who downloaded the addon in good conscience before all issues were resolved. To my knowledge, this matter hasn't been discussed beyond those parties involved: armatech, Frandsen (RavenDK), UKF and the moderators of this forum. Posts by other members of this forum reflect attitudes due to prior experience with armatech (wizzywig in OFP) and the UNA squad over authorship of scripts for addons and missions distrubuted by these parties. My knowledge of these prior incidents is only through having read other topics within these forums, not by discussing them personally with said members. Coincidently, these issues largely concentrate around a part of the community mostly made up of squads and addonmakers based around the UK. As a result it logically congregates around certain individuals who are somewhat close-knit due to their common interest in representation of UK forces in OFP and ArmA.

That may be true but I don't know how to tell and would like to be informed, just in case. After what happened earlier I'd like to be absolutely positive before I erase this addon from my computer. I'm not gonna use something that was stolen but I'd like to be a bit more informed before I dump it. What sort of confirmation do you want exactly? Messiah is the bloke who made the L96 for UKF, of all the people available to verify the source of those parts of the model and texture it's him (given armatech's post-restriction). Nobody's going to be angry at you for using this addon, it's up to you whether you keep it or not. The only issue is the fact that someone's work has been distributed without due credit to them, this suggests ultimately that these parts were created by someone other than the original author. So long as it can be distributed in this manner, its insulting to those who's work goes uncredited, and those who value the work of those who make original content for this game. Like Messiah said, there's no real clearing up to be done, since it's quite clear now, on the only public space where this has been released; that the authorship of this addon isn't entirely as suggested by armatech. Anyone who proceeds to download, it does so knowing this, and so long as it's not distributed elsewhere under further false pretences, we're happy.

Now, there is something you've definitely taken without asking for permission in this pack. You've gone and taken UKF's L96 model and textures and replaced the bipod and scope. I know of only one person we've given permission to port any part of our addons from OFP to ArmA to, and it ain't you. Our authorised conversion of it is seen on the left of my image (albeit an early version). Your hack-job even contains the transparent texture bug we encountered on the converted weapons. There's no mention of UKF or the individual in our team who made that addon, in your readme. Very bad form. Care to explain this?

    Mafia 2

That was my favourite mission. The last bit in the church was awesome; hugely clichéd but it was mega ducking and diving between the pughs and dropping rival gangsters with the S&W Magnum. Probably the best shootout I've had in any game.

Pic on the first post's been replaced now. Some pics of the other weapons in the pack would be nice, not just the L85...

9.17's the one that's a bit ugly right, the hunchback? Can't say I'm looking forward to meeting this stuff ingame; I have a hard enough time avoiding being shot down as it is, but it does look mega mate. It'll be interesting to see what livery the MiGs come in; no doubt you'll now get moaned at to do schemes for Nation X or Nation Y's air-force since it's a widely exported type. BTW, you're doing the Mk.512 Merlin we've had off the Danes right? Had one doing the low-flying and touch-and-go circuits that the Squirrels and Griffons usually do around here, yesterday. Couldn't remember if it was part of the Merlin project or not.

    Mafia 2

Hope this is true, loved Mafia to bits. The 'Hardest Games' thread brought back a load of memories of just how great a game it was. Thought Illusion were working on the 'Enemy in Sight' thing last we heard from them?

    Battle of Britain Day

Think that's why the post just refers to RAF, rather than British airmen. Pilots from all over the Commonwealth and occupied Europe (and I believe other places as well) flew under the RAF during the Battle of Britain.

    Spinning Prop Blurs

Rock, I find that if you perform the radial blur twice (using a smaller amount of Blur than you would initially for each blur) you get a better effect at the centre of the rotation. Gnat, below I've done you two versions of blurring that texture, one using a single rotational blur of 70, and a second using 35 twice. http://mysite.orange.co.uk/mlb2/propXdblur.tga http://mysite.orange.co.uk/mlb2/propXdblur2.tga

    British DPM Commandos

If you are looking to make them a bit more realistic in future: The 'Royal Marine Commandos' flash is present on both sleeves, and usually sits a bit higher on the arm, up near where the sleeve starts. You would also need to swap the arms on which you've put the 3 Cdo. Brigade flash (should be rights arm) and the Union flag (should be left arm). The flag is normally quite a lot smaller than that too. The DPM pattern appears to be missing a lot of the black strokes. If you're using photo samples, you might want to try cutting the black parts from other samples of DPM you find, and placing some of those on, making some changes in shape, size and orientation to reduce repetitiveness in the pattern. Hope that helps make a start on some future updates mate. Good luck with it.

    zoom fix

Try double-tapping the - key. I think some actions will make the view switch back to the default zoom though. Oddly it doesn't work so well with the zoom in (+ key)

Very nice, do you know what sort of engine the Czechs have in their Land Rovers? Ed:-forgot to remove image

    BWMod Discussion Thread

Where's that? I've only seen the US sniper model released, and that has 'un-bloused' trousers and gloved hands. Troops look fantastic anyway Terp. I bloody loved every BWMod addon for OFP and I can assure you I'll enjoy the work you do in ArmA.

    your own settings, Cheat?!

What video card you got? NVidia? I used to get comparatively bad FPS in forests (fine everywhere else; even by other foliage like in dense grass and near bushes.) Turning off antialiasing and anisotropy in the global settings for my 7900GT (setting it to application-based) and just using the in-game AA and AF settings as opposed to using both, increased my frame-rate in forests noticeably. Make sure transparency AA is switched off in the control panel too, used to cause me all sorts of grief. Unfortunately the application profiles thing doesn't seem to work for me so I have to manually increase AA and AF for games like Red Orchestra that don't have internal override settings for these, before I boot them up. I play ArmA more than anything else though, so it's no big deal. This may not work for you like it did for me, but it's worth a shot.

    Insurgency Mod For HL2

Ditto It's not a game it's a MOD. The core of it was still made by VALVE, a professional developer and as with any mod, the changes made by the INS team to the engine are rather superficial. I don't think the work done by the INS team in changing a few of the gameplay dynamics in the HL2 engine is any way comparable to the overhaul BIS gave OFP:E's engine in making ArmA. Nor is making a multiplayer mod for a linear FPS game comparable to a dynamic SP/MP game like ArmA. I'm not knocking the team who made it, it's a nicely done mod even though it's not really my cup of tea; I stopped playing it fairly quickly, (I prefer Red Orchestra as an MPFPS since the maps are much larger, you can play against more people and shooting's more of a challenge). However, the work they've done is small in comparison to that of any game developer.

    Anti-Aircraft Guns

The VITAPC pack was made by the same fella who made the ZSU-23-2s JdB linked to, AKM74. Don't think he's been around for a good long time; his APC pack ended up in the hands of DKM Mod who also stopped working eventually so it may be hard to track him down.

Does VBS2 support normal maps? Doesn't look like it does in most of the screenshots.

It's a GR1 IDS not the F3 ADV. It's not a GR1 either, it's a GR4. Says so at the start of the video (among other indications).

Sounds excellent mate: it's pretty much exactly how I hoped it would work even though I don't get around to playing MP as much as I'd like.
