    Operation Flashpoint 2 officially announced

Technically, you create maps/islands around 1600sqkm in ArmA. I know Rockape's made one that's about 1300sqkm of land mass with a total map area of 1677.7sqkm including seabed (about 41km*41km). I think the advertised 240-300 sqkm for Chernarus is land mass. If it were total area, the map would be 15.5km*15.5 km or 17.3km*17.3km, which seems a bit odd since terrain grids are 200m*200m.

    Operation Flashpoint 2 officially announced

How big will the map be for ARMA 2 ? OFP2 operates with 220 sqkm landmass estimate. games.tiscali.cz said Chernarus, the island in ArmA2 was 240 to 300 sqkm (depends on which translation your read). shinRaiden the pictures are renders; I doubt the range of animations, especially those that show interaction with the environment, will be that great. We could achieve similar things if we bothered to take the time with switchmove in OFP or ArmA's editor for the purpose of still, artistic screenshots.

    Project: UK Forces

Aye. Hadn't seen the fella around much recently, so it had crossed my mind that he might be too busy to work on them. Seeing that he'd signed up on your forums did give me some hope that he's still continuing where possible though. All the best with it bud.

It's just how Messiah placed the vehicles to make the screenshot a bit more interesting. UNN recently said he'd look into towing scripts once he's finished RKSL Studios' cargo system. CBFASI is producing Royal Navy ships in cooperation with RKSL

    Mateck's M1A1 (HA)

They've given the commander that animation because the M2 on an M1A1 can only be operated from inside the turret using a solenoid switch. If you look, the mount has been completely remodelled so that it is accurate for the M1A1, as such there are no external controls for the M2. The manually operated one on BIS's M1A1 is in reality, only found on M1A2.

    Normal Mapping Character clothing Tips

Hmm, if things are still a bit too sharp looking my only advise would be to try to soften up the actual source image itself. Try duplicating the layer you're making the normal map for, blurring it (probably gaussian is best), then blending it into the original layer (using overlay or a similar effect). Link the two layers then 'merge linked' before running the normal map filter. Play around with the extent of the blurring, the depth and the 'filter type' setting in the NVidia plugin until you get a result you're happy with. Ed:- I remember reading a thread a while back where someone (nephilim I think) outlined the above technique but suggested only blurring the original image slightly, then creating a duplicate of the gaussian blurred layer and blurring that one a bit more, gradually building up the blur through the overlayed layers before merging them. Not tried that one myself since the only stuff I've made normal maps for so far have been metals rather than textiles or fluids.

    Normal Mapping Character clothing Tips

If the normal maps look too sharp/crisp try changing the filter type from '4 sample' to one of the other settings; 9*9 being the 'softest'.
  8. I believe the purpose of placing the script in a large mission like warfare or evolution is to stress test how well an MP environment can handle the script on a large scale; with people moving many supply objects across the map, in many different types of vehicle. Warfare offers a good platform for logistics scenarios that'll encourage people to attempt to use the cargo scripts. Integrating it perfectly into these missions for its gameplay value is not UNN's key intention for the demo mission. However, some editing of the core mission may be required to ensure that people use the cargo system rather than only using the support scripts that already exist in that game mode.

Most of the real ones only have 2 guns (like the WMIKs in the first page). The Jackal that Messiah is making will have a front GPMG and a selection of weapons for the ring-mount. So far we've only seen 3 weapons mounted on demonstrator vehicles: the third weapon is usually mounted at the rear of the vehicle. Currently, this space is occupied by electronic equipment and is closed off by armour plates on Jackals in Afghanistan.

    HMD helicopter HUD

Like say an Apache or a JCA? Impressive stuff Doctor; I'm sure I'd be able to experience the benefits of this much more if I had TrackIR but it is a very handy tool that I can see having broad applications in ArmA. Good work.

Well yea, Scimitar, Spartan and Samaritan are all CVR(t)s aren't they? The other vehicles in the CVR(t) family that are still in service are likely to be included too.
  12. Top work as always mate. I do like the changes you've made to the site since I got a look at it earlier in the year. The Hawk looks crotch-moisteningly good in Sahrani colours.

    Red orchestra: Darkest Hour released!

Yea, they had to add a new hotfix for the DH server browser since Tripwire patched the server browser for Red Orchestra via Steam on Saturday night.

    F-22A Raptor

Landing gear isn't animated in the 2nd LOD so planes at an intermediate distance appear to have their landing gear down in flight. It's an easy fix; you just have to rename the various gear and door selections in this LOD to be the same as they are in the 1st LOD.

WIP: stuff you are working on!

Indeed, there should be dimples in the supressor rather than pleasure dots. Also, would it be possible for you to texture the black line on the receiver marking where the upper and lower receiver components are separated. I'm sure you can see what I mean on these two photos: http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss2008/huge/DSCN0156.JPG http://photos.imageevent.com/smglee/ss2008/huge/DSCN0157.JPG There's also some detail stamped into the back of the dust cover (the metal plate that covers the extractor port) that the textures would benefit from, rather than keeping it as a flat plate.

    EricM Hind Pack BETA1

How many 5.45 rounds did you fire at it before it did that? ArmA's damage system isn't complex enough to allow a single 12.7mm penetrate the glass, where several 5.45 round simply crack it without entering the cockpit. You have to make a compromise somewhere. Even so, if the glass breaks after only one or two AK rounds, I'm sure the armour value could be upped a bit.

    EricM Hind Pack BETA1

Rock, would you consider making it possible to manually guide the AT-2 missiles like on other MCLOS/SACLOS systems in game (TOW), or would that not be sensible since the Hind's much quicker?

Is that the same KiT rag-mag that was flying about way back in the late 80's and early 90's? If so I remember finding copies on the QM's desk where they were telling the chaps from the RAF Regiment not to blip their CVR(T)'s. Probably the same, I've not been working long enough to remember it back in the 80s early 90s, was their attempt at 'humour' as bad then as it is now?. It still comes in pamphlet form every 3 months. Messy, they still put it on t'internet they've just moved the site after re-designing army.mod.uk. I'll send you the link.

    Red orchestra: Darkest Hour released!

Darkest Hour has been patched to 1.0a, fixing the map crashes so that we can enjoy the American side of things properly. Some of the sounds have been improved too. Check it out here: http://forums.darkesthourgame.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3300 Also, make sure you get the new map, Foy. Firefox aiming for a download record

That annoyed me at first to, but if you re-visit your favourites a few times (more than the other pages that come up in the address bar) they go right back to the top. See my previous post. Would have been nice if all that ported over from the last version automatically though.

Firefox aiming for a download record

After my initial frustration at having to visit my most-viewed pages a few times in order to get them back at the top of the address bar list; I'm liking the new version of Firefox very much.

    UEFA Euro 2008

The only players who actually played on form in the Italy-France match were the keepers. Both teams have been extremely disappointing all tournament. btw, those of you doing the betting league can place your bets for the scores for the quarter-final matches now: http://www.kicktipp.de/ Only the opposition for the Holland-Sweden/Russia game is yet to be determined.

You doubt the wisdom of the hedgehogs? Nah, in all seriousness, like you I can see them taking a significantly large pair of scissors to Panther given the problems it's faced and current operational requirements. The ever changing FRES program and resulting life-extension plans for current vehicles will probably start biting into Panther too. Anyhow, we should probably get back to discussing addons we've already made. Discussing our future plans is derailing the topic a bit.
