Operation Arrowhead: The questions and answers thread

It would have been good to have that mentality with the core game too, and Armed Assault before it for that matter. I call bullshit. -
Win7 64bit and 8GB ram here... why bother? 3d animation, HD video editing. etc. There is more to life than game playing, and it's rather silly that just having 8GB causes issues for those of us to have/need it. Frankly I'm getting sick of this entire thing, I hardly touch ArmA2 anymore and that's surprising.

Video memory, very high or default?
datter replied to LOulOo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I still haven't got this sorted out. - In game settings do not change the CFG (it always reports 255mb when it should be 512mb) - Altering my system ram from 8GB to 6GB makes ArmA2 misreport the vram down to 213mbs. Again, in-game settings do nothing. - CFG file is NOT read only - SLI no longer has any effect. Better frame rates with it off. None of that was true with Win XP 32bit and 2gb of ram, but going to Win7 64 bit and 8gb totally screwed things over. I am getting less and less arsed to care about it. -
NVIDIA video card(s) owners read here!

Compare high vs normal shadows with trees. There is nothing normal about "normal". -
Excellent, that really did need some clarification as it's totally contrary to the info at BluesNews.

The bit about the LAN is verified here.

Yes the mods are fast (sorry, for some reason off-topic didn't occur to me), and no there is no joking involved.

Thought this might be of interest. .

That makes me feel pretty good about the fps I'm getting with my view distance I guess.

I'll run that by my wife, if she gets mad I'll tell her it was your idea.

Is there any way I can get boobs?

What, there's standards now? When did that happen?

Video memory, very high or default?
datter replied to LOulOo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
My problem remains that any setting in-game ends up giving me 255mb of localvram. Before moving to 8GB of system ram and Win7 64bit I could set "default" and get around 512mb, now regardless of what I do I'm at 255mb... so I assume it's related to the 8GB though somehow or other. -
Video memory, very high or default?
datter replied to LOulOo's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
When I had 2gb of RAM and WinXP 32bit I could set my video memory to "default" and it would show around 512mb detected in the CFG file, which is accurate for my dual 8800GT set up. Now that I've moved to 8GB ram and Win 7 64bit the same "default" setting only detects 255mb of video ram. Setting in-game to "low" or "very high" gives the same result, 255mb detected. If I limit myself to 6GB of RAM it only detects 213mbs. I'm getting graphical glitches and problems now because of all this, that I wasn't getting with my old 2gb/WinXP setup. Getting rather annoyed at this entire sideshow to be honest. -
Since moving to 8GB from 6Gb I'm seeing related problems as well. This needs to be kept bumped up for the sake of all those with needless amounts of ram like us. :)

Well. That's rather depressing, and to be honest I'm starting to think their level of passion is rather indeterminate to the quality of the final product.

Texture memory is not changing in CFG file - Can anyone verify this?
datter posted a topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I have been noticing some texture weirdness (white textures, flickering etc) since 1.03 and just thought I'd check my arma2.cfg file. With version 1.02 I would set my texture memory to "default" which would give me around 512mbs in the CFG... accurate for my dual 8800GT set up. Since 1.03 I see that my video card memory is showing up as 255mb in the CFG file, still using "default" as set in game. I tried switching from "default" to "very high" and it's stays at 255mb. Even switching to "low" in-game texture memory leaves the ArmA2.cfg at 255mb. I've double checked and no, my CFG file is not set to read only. Can someone else check and see if this is happening with them as well, so I can sort out if this is just me or not? I'm going to attempt setting it manually then setting it to read only and see what happens. datter -

hmm, I think you might be right. If I go into my nVidia control panel and select the checkbox that says "show only programs installed on this computer" I do not see ArmA2 listed in the profiles. I need to deselect that box in order to see it. -

^ Exactly, Win7's defragger (and from what I've heard that in Vista as well) is perfectly fine and does a great job.

ARMA2 Stops Working with 1.03
datter replied to sirdingydang's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I'm getting "ArmA2 has stopped working" since patch 1.03, and with ArmA2 being installed on a separate 10k raptor drive too. No magic, something is busted with 1.03. -
I posted about this sort of thing recently after the 1.03 patch, and thought I had it sorted out by simply turning Physx off (left it on from another game by mistake). Sadly, this was not the fix I was looking for and the problem remains. Played the campaign a bit last night and had the textures get weird on me as described above, it was getting to the point that it would have crashed shortly so I went into the options and fiddled with thing. I found turning off the post processing made the issue go away and everything looked normal again, but my frame rate was in the single digits. I then turned AA on, then off and bumped my 3d res up, then back down to my regular setting. This had the effect of making the screen go blank while the new settings took effect and when I resumed playing the problem was gone. Textures were fine and frame rate was fine, as usual. After a further 15min however, I had a CTD. Definitely something up with 1.03, this didn't happen in 1.02 at all.

With mine (from Yogi Computers) I ordered through ebay (paid via paypal... $163 USD I think?) on Sunday. I got an email saying my order had been processed first thing Monday morning and it arrived the following Friday, first thing in the morning. (I'm in Nova Scotia and it came from Pennsylvania if I recall correctly). It was hand delivered by the post guy, with no charges or anything of that sort. As said, it was labeled as a "gift" and valued at "$20" which is why I think there were no taxes, or cross border fees. Not saying that's "right", but it was appreciated. I'd buy from those guys again in a second.

Which Driver to use? Nvidia card btw!
datter replied to dale0404's topic in ARMA 2 & OA - TROUBLESHOOTING
I'm still using 190.38 (Windows 7 64-bit) and liking them a lot. They provided a nice performance boost over the previous drivers.
