  1. Its not connected. There's the base, and then the turret itself on top of it which isn't connected. ;) In any case, I broke it off anyway to cull some faces.

I try to not use other people's art as a reference (Unless I have no other reference of a specific area), their mistakes tend to be translated over and I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to maintaining accuracy to the subject material. I have plenty of behind the scenes reference images of the real thing used in the movie (12.6mb). Save for instance; the lights on the roof that don't exist in the "real" thing, the spotlight to the rear is too sunken into the roof, the weird protuberances where the angle of the roof changes are too small, there should be no grating over the headlights, the door has right angles instead of rounded corners, it is also shaped wrong (the bottom of the front bit should be angled back 15 or so degrees). I also have a keen eye. :p Thanks anyway. :)

    I definitely won't be able to finish all of my Aliens stuff before ArmA 3, especially since I'm shipping out in September. So We'll see some REAL Sci-fi in ArmA 3 once I'm done with my massive project that I keep neglecting. :p

    Cpl Ben Kerry is Special forces, he's in the same team as the main character. That said, I'm not aware of ANY airborne at JBLM, special forces or otherwise. McChord AFB DOES have a ton of C-17s, so it is entirely possible that in the future Ft. Lewis becomes home to an Airborne unit or two.

  10. Hi again, been working on this for the past few days (With the help of /k/ for guidance and some specular maps), getting to the point where I need to work on detail LoDs. What's the best way (In O2) for doing them without having to re-UV map everything?
  11. I've done a bit of searching and I can't find an answer. I know the texture has to be a power of 2, (eg. 16x16, 32x32, 64x64, 256x256, etc.) But does it have to be square? Save for instance could it be 512x1024 and work? I'm making a Mosin Nagant M38 right now and it is a bit longer than it is tall on the UV map. I'm trying to be as space efficient as I can, but you can only do so much in terms of scaling things to square it up. Here's what I'm working with. I suppose I might as well experiment and see how it goes. Edit: I feel a bit daft now... It worked... Edit2: For anyone that cares, the end result of my 1024x2048 "experiment".

    I was checking my frame rate with FRAPS and it said that I was steady at 35-36 FPS. The Raven itself was lagging, seemed to pause for .5 - 1 second then continue for 2 - 5. I know it wasn't my FPS because I could see trees change their detail LoD while "paused". lol

    When I'm viewing the Raven's camera, it is really laggy. Every few seconds it pauses and continues course; what's weird is my FPS is a steady 35, even during one of the pauses. Is this intentional to simulate lag between the RQ-11 and the viewing device or is there something wrong?

    The Ak-47 is nowhere near a copy of the MP-44. The only real similarities are they're guns, have detachable box magazines, and are assault rifles with a gas piston. The AK was INSPIRED by the MP-44, but that's like saying the M-16 is a copy of the AK because the AK came first and they use the same idea or that the K-98 is a copy of the Mosin Nagant. http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/772/77607351.jpg They're about as similar as the K98 and the Mosin are.

While I fully agree with you, this is only really possible on smaller maps (Due to limitations of the size of the height/satellite map, (4096x4096 I believe) to get larger maps, you need to increase the distance between nodes (Cell size) and it gets less detailed. I'm pretty sure that Chernarus has a 15 ish meter cell size from what I read) and would take a LOT of work to get right. :)

  20. Anyone else having issues logging in to the game? I get stuck at "Waiting for Server Response".
  21. I agree, it is quite annoying. What's more is it tells you to go to a character selection screen to continue, but no amount of keyboard mashing has gotten me there.

    You've obviously never been to the ocean or some other large body of water, then. That said, I think it's just the view distance circle.
