    WIP: stuff you are working on!

    Hi ,I ve been working on a water color mod lately.     Hi dudes, I have experimented with grass combinations in arma,And the following paramaters - noDetailDist = 40; -clutter objects dissapear at 40m fromplayer fullDetailDist = 5; -full quality lod 's at 5m from player. Control the lod's of the clutter objects on the terrain.

    Hi m8, I have some sounds that i am using on your choppers. Let me know if ya want a link for em. If you want to use thm that s'cool but i will ask ya's to also use the volume settings that i'll pack with em. I ve been doin sounds for years in OFP and used to do audio engineering.So i hope you dont think iam a pushy 14year old lol. Anyhow Great work on the Mod!! Thanx P.s if you guy's have a vehicle-respawn scrpt that will respawn choppers on deck of the LPD i would love to get a hold of it.I 've tried two so far but they both put em on the ground.     As far as i know you 'll have to make a new mag and weapon for the harrier.Or just a new mag and configure the av8's gun(launcher) to carry the mag. Either way it will requre the addon to be modified.

  6. I always use 44khz sound files and never really had a problem. I have decoded .wws files before that were from arma and when decoded the speed it is played back at is x10 or someting.I tried to slow them down with software but to no avail. Arma has a descent sound engine for the cost of fps. But, there isn't many parameters to play with in the cfg's so it starts to make it very tricky to manipulate. In the OFP days i used to have some big headaches trying to do sounds but these days in arma i dont have that many thank god.Although by now i have been toying with the game for around 5 years so i should've learn't something by now. Try just doing the sounds that you think need replacing the most and no more that 2 at a time. It takes time and the last thing you want is to burn out and leave you installation unplayable for yourself. Keep a backup copy somewhere thats not complete but a 100% workable version of your work to a certain point so you have something to fall back on. If your not going to release it and you dont run a soundcard ,leave the files in .wav format to help minimise the chance of format change headaches and bugs. I don't really know what to say without seeing the cfg and or hearing the problem. If you want send it i''l have a captain cook at it (meaning-look)

    Fantastic work Gnat!!! They look like they'll provide a completely new perspective to arma gaming. Thanx I do have a suggestion though. In OFP i really disliked the helipad on deck of the US Carrier. I used to set the carrier up with upto 30 aircraft onboard in variuos ways.I set the aircraft up from pictures of carriers i have.They looked really good .But the helipad would look strange with the aircraft over it.And also they dont have helipads marked out on them in real life. Should i post an old screeny of this carrier in OFP with around 30 aircraft lined up the way they do it for real?
  8. Maddmatt, thanks m8. I always knew there was a reason for wss files but i or anyone else i know don't use accelerated hardware so we never knew the limitations of wav. files. Makake, I'd be more than happy to have a look and listen to your "private" soundmod. PM me a link. Thanx everyone. Â
  9. Makake, One reason some problems may arise is if the soundfile is a stereo sound.These will give a non directional and seemingly non-responsive sound ingame. I have been using .wav files for years (and so have many ppl) and always had the doppler effect happn.(sound fadein fadeout/rise and fall in percieved pitch as it goes past you).Aswell as the new arma sound engine bonus -sounds are blocked/muted behind large objects.:D I have the same problems with some sounds are good untill there ingame or vice versa. What i have learnt is that sounds can be recorded/sampled using hundreds of different ways and there for hundreds of different game engines ,so really  it's amazing how they are so compatable. My brother, who uses my sound edits has only just recently said that he does'nt have ffar sounds sometimes. Which as you said makes absolutely no sense.I hav'nt edited many sounds at all really so the problem may be new in ARMA and not in the expansion's you've made. An "ingame" sound Editor would be a gift from the gods.Even if you had to run it as a mod just to do editing. And finally your Sound mod sounds excellent m8,I'd download that m8.

    You'll have to make a cfg entry into to the addon 's cfg in question. Try this- class CfgSounds { class BritkitCH47startupsound { Â sound[]={"\YourAddon\startupsound.wav",db+8,1.0}; Â name = "BritkitCH47startupsound"; titles[] = {}; }; }; Btw, when naming a sound for the cfg try to name it uniquely so as not to conflict in the future with other addons that may have been named too simple/common. Hence the odd looking name - BritkitCH47startupsound Also if renamed to "BritkitCH47startupsound", change the script that calls "startup2" soundfile to "BritkitCH47startupsound" aswell. They have to match. All in all were just introducing a sound ,naming it in the cfg so the game now knows about it and then of course we just call it. These sounds will show up in the editor under sounds in the triggers part.

    Sound configuration

    Hi, As far as i can tell the sound setup for arma is really quite simple. I've been doin OFP sounds for along time and i also have experiance in audio engineering. This is how i think  the arma sounds work. the first value in the parameter is for the volume.The second is for the speed at which the soundfile is played at. The volume works sorta like this- If the soundfile is too loud to start with the volume parameter will seem to have no effect.There for reduce the soundfile's volume with software. Then once its around a usable volume you can fine tune the volume with the cfg. If you think aling the lines of  this it will help somewhat. volume = energy More volume = more energy = sound will travel further.

    Leftskidlow helicopter sounds

    Hi all, LeftSkidLow, I also have been working on the same idea for year's now and i have worked this out so far. The Environmentsound parameter only comes into action when the vehicle is moving. This is why the Environment sounds are still being triggered when the vehicle is stopped but the rotors are moving.This problem onle shows up on Rotory winged aircraft. I have also tried using both the Environmentsound parameter and the Soundengine parameter with a insidesoundcoefficcient of around 0.00001 but the environmentsound is affetced by it too. This parameter -insidesoundcoefficcient- is to reduce the engine/environment sound inside a vehcle. However i think i do remember a Helicopter released for OFP years ago that had a Script that would play a soundfile repeatedly that was an Inside sound.This used with a normal soundengine parameter and an insidesoundcoefficcient of around 0.0001 should work. Anybody know how to write such a script? Hope this helps.

If you guys need some help with sounds give me a yell.I ve got lots of sounds to choose from that i have kept over the years from different games. I used to do Audio Engineering, so Sounds are my Forte. Anyway, Fantastic Work!!!.I cant wait for the Nam era Slick. Thanx dudes

    Really bad peformance

    I am running much worse now in 1.09 than i do in 1.08 .The grass is heavier and the forrests are far worse than before.Try putting yourslf up north in a forrest without grass even and youll see what i mean.Thzooming in whilst prone with grass on has a massive effect on FPS and gun firerate slowdown,the first place that a big FPS loss has occured. To give yous an example  when ingame point your gun in the air and fire then do the same thing again with the gun pointed at the ground .You'll see a huge difference in firerate. i run a 8600gt,intell core2 E6750 ,2gb ddr2-800 ram.I used to run a 6600GT in ARMA that worked good.

    1.09 beta patch troubleshooting thread.

    The Grass kills my PC when i am zoomed in on the optics in prone position.Everywhere on sara. Up north in the forrests it also kills FPS like never before.I have just Updated my PC and now ARMA runs worse than it did before I updated my pc. I much prefer the long grass like in v1.08. I have experimented myself with different grass combos and found the Tall grass wasnt that bad on FPS and the flower clutter objects made it run heavy.I replaced some flower for tall grass and perfect, instant FPS increase. Will there ever be Patch released that will rectify the bug that stops AI boarding, disembarking and the rest of the pain in the butt behavior in MP environment.After having waited for almost seven years to simply fly in to an LZ and pick up an AI squad without having to perform actions and/or write scripts as long as my arm.Or having a Helicopter land for my squad to get in.If you ask me these are the first things i would have fixed when updating OFP to ARMA specs and not focusing on getting the "way beyond expectations" pretty grahics.I prefer simple games that work than pretty ones that dont. Sorry if i seem a little rough but i have waited patiently over the years for a fix to this problem and have payed for each and every installment of OFP/ARMA hoping it will be fixed in the "next" version. But i will finish by saying thank you for the Combat Simulator Of The Decade! :D

    Hi all, My first few posts in the BIS forums so you guys wouldnt know me at all.My brother(Ron) and i have been into OFP/ARMA for years but have never got "involved" in the Forums. We have done many,many sound mods for all era's and Land/Sea/Air vehicles and weapons and we have a library of sounds collected over the years.I am a Ex Audio Engineer with experience in Live and Studio sound recoding/reproduction. The point i am getting at is the Franze F18 from OFP was one of the best addons(aircraft) for OFP but like almost all addons released the Quality of sounds do no justice for the Quality of the model/s. I would like to offer my time and experiance to you guys to get this addon to sound as good as this thing looks.I have a large number of sounds for jet aircraft,gear,canopies etc.So there are many to choose from.Some of these sounds are from F18s and are very high quality and simply would do the model justice. I have contributed to VTE Mod just lately so i hope this might relieve you of any Trust issues with your hard work. I will be doing the sounds for my bro and i so i might aswell offer it to you guys seeings as I would be flying the same old A10 or AV8 if it wasnt for you guys or people like yourselves. Thanx. And to finish off i'll say Fantastic work and cant wait to Launch one of these things off Gnats Carrier!!

    Hi Gnat, In reference to the Carriers ya workn on,Ihave two sounds i added to the Hawk nimitz a few years ago that i think ya might like. The two sounds are for the Catapult and Arrestor Gear. They came from the F18/Carrier pack that was released for FS9 a long time ago. Let me know if want a copy of em and ill post a link.Or a copy of the sqs files to save time getting the sounds called at the right point.Ya prolly wont need to look at the scripts i modded cos it was prety straight forward were to put em.But i coulda just fluked it! lol  I think you would still be able to Download the FS9 stuff if ya know where to get FS9 addons if you want to get the Pack yourself.If you play FS9 its highly recomended. To get them workn I called the sounds in the scripts at the right point and it worked fantastic.The sound of the Catapult throwing you out and the Great "whoosh" sound from the Arrestor gear was very exciting and really helped to get the heart rate up during launches and recoverys.
