  1. throwing my hat into the debate cause its interesting. I have read two books from the Sherwood and Nottingham rangers (By tank into Normandy, and Tank Action) both of which are by tank commanders. in both books they mention ditching their stens for German Mp40's as soon as possible.  Also in both books they talk about the same incident in which a fellow tank commander jumped into his hatch and dropped his sten which discharged and blew his throat out. Its not the first time i've read of Sten's discharging after being knocked or bashed. The point about the stens being made to quickly replenish lost stocks is the key to everything here. the MAB and the Sten are designed for completely different circumstances. If we hadn't lost France, then maybe the Sten would never have existed and a more precision designed weapon might have emerged from the British. If i had to chose, i probably would pick the MAB, maybe just for the samurai vest (nickname for the ammo vest that the paras had), but one key point that could tip it for the Sten is the Warsaw uprising. Because i have heard tails of the poles making homemade stens from designs smuggled to them by the british.

  2. hi there sorry if this is quite a simple answer that i'm missing. I've found your static line configs in the function viewer and read through them and found the parts about the AI. Trying to work out how to implement it though, am i meant to put it all into a script to be called in the mission or is it designed to just activate when i jump out cause so far only i have left the plane. Again apologies if the answer is blatantly obvious, but i've tried working it out myself and come up blank.

  3. yup worked it out. so basically how you do it is throw down a flack. then pop an invisible helipad in the sky. then you put a trigger on the flack so that the flack activates it by being present. in the on activation part you want to put:

    G1 doWatch T1

G1 is the flack name and T1 is the target. that gets it to look at the helipad like so

i believe that if you replace doWatch with doFire it should shoot at it. I'll give it a test and edit my post if it works.

Edit: Yeah no unfortunately DoFire doesn't  seem to want to work.

  4. Universal Carrier, the ultimate vehicle for you and four other friends to cruise around such holiday destinations as Italy, Northern France, and the Rhineland. Even comes with a handy mount to pop your Bren gun for when the locals come out to play. Looking amazing guys!

  6. ah the good old Webley, providing officers the chance to blow their brains out in the mess after a faux pas. The PIAT i envisage many hours of fun with, same with the Vickers. The Webley i see many hours of me charging machine guns shouting Hurrah! as is only appropriate. All round sterling work guys, guess i'm gonna have to dig out the tin hat for the next update :smileee:

tpM, your piat sounds like a giant spring lobbing a shaped warhead...which it is, so i'd say good job!

It's a good question and I don't know the answer to be honest.

How do you even get AI to turn-out? Knowing their propensity to hide when under contact, I imagine they just stay seated inside shaking their heads "3. no way".

Assuming we could find a way to make them turn-out, do AI in FFV turrets actually engage with their personal weapons? Never checked myself.

I've managed to get them to turn out on other vehicles by setting their state to safe but once under contact they duck (albeit sensibly), but on the snatch they don't turn out even when safe. I think RHS has on one of their Russian vehicles a top gunner and the position is set almost like a turret but you use your own weapons. but at least if you don't know the answer i can feel somewhat happy in that i'm not being thick hehehehe. I'll have a mess around with it and see if i can get them to do something and if i have any results i'll be sure to feed it back.

Ahh fair enough, i must admit I'm motivated by wanting more choice in infantry vehicles that can fit an 8 man section and thought this might be another one, so many have 5-7 seats, having to take 2 vehicles per section gets annoying in a logistical sense.

I can see what you mean, though the old adage of not having your eggs in one basket does come to mind. I know it isn't included in this mod (yet, maybe, i don't know) but the Mastiff is able to transport a section and keep them relatively safe. I on the other hand am a Sadist (or masochist depending on if i'm in the vehicle) and like to drive my guys about in the good old Snatch down streets laden with IED's and being shot at from the roof tops....and thankfully 3CB vehicles allows me to do that from the comfort of my own home, which I've been meaning to say thank you for a long time....So thanks 3CB! :rthumb:

sorry for throwing my hat in on this but i think i'm seeing where the confusion is lying here. Unfortunatly the person who wrote the wikipedia article has not specified the difference between the plus numbers of just a normal MXT and the APC. the +10 is for the APC varient with the cabin on the back. The little recess your seeing above the wheel arch on the rear 'tray', which is what i believe your referring too as the bench seats, is actually for fuel cans.

    Husky-TSV1.jpg

as can be seen here. However all that being said i do not doubt that some entrepreneurial squaddy has tried to sit there, though I would say that it would be rather unpleasant/ dangerous.

again apologies for jumping in on a discussion that you may have wished me out of but i was in the area and decided to drop by.

  10. Hi there Archsceptic

Thank you very much for the information. Unfortunately my grandfather died when i was 6, but i grew up on war films and being a man of tradition I wanted to follow him into the army. The ironic thing was that I had always believed he had been in the Dorsets during world war two so when i enlisted i went into the Rifles as that's what the Devon and Dorsets , light infantry, green jackets, and the OX and Bucks had merged into....It was only after i was discharged that my mother (daughter of the grandfather in question) bothered to point out that i had been wrong all this time and he had in fact been in the Essex reg. so I now have all this redundant knowledge on the Dorset regiment and nowt about the Essex lads hehehehe.

    Lodu

    That's a good a reason as any

  11. not overly familiar with the husky...but from my limited knowledge i don't think the British army uses the husky in a transport role. As far as I know (again stressing the point i'm not the font of all knowledge) its only used for localized supply support and command and liaison, therefore the British have only the 4 seater variants. I'm sure someone who actually worked with them might be able to shed more light, and i'm always happy to be proven wrong cause every day is a learning day.

  12. Might one inquire as to what made you choose the Essex regiment for the British uniforms? I'm interested as to if it was a personal connection with one of the team or if it was a random selection or another reason, cause one of my Granddad's was drafted into the Essex regiment during the second world war, though he ended up in the RMP during the later stages of the battle for Germany. I've only recently started to research into them, as i'm tempted to make a few Arma missions based on them, and i'd love to read whatever you guys have about them or if you could point me in the right direction to source materials.

  13. I have noticed a trend over the past few years using RHS. I'll go to work, come up with a mission idea that gets me really pumped, load up arma and RHS, spend the next 5 hours dressing guys up in cool gear in the virtual arsenal, then go to bed and repeat. Just want to thank the RHS team for providing me with enough gubbins that i can effectively spend a night playing what i can only describe as heavily militarized barbie dolls. You guys do an amazing job, keep it up :rthumb:
