    1.90 update - Troubleshooting

We are having the same issue on our server and are getting an error with one of our mods, specifically referencing the wrong key for the mod. This started right after the Arma update. I have tried repacking the mod and resigning it, and even tried creating new keys and resigning everything. Nothing is working.

I had a kid tell me exact same thing over the weekend. He didn't own Arma. Was only playing for the free weekend. He started making a list of demands of things that he wanted for our server. We already had every single thing he suggested on the server, minus basebuilding, which is virtually pointless on a 2k by 2k map.

I never use reddit, for the most part. There have been times when I research something and find the answer on reddit, but I really do not participate. Any system where majority votes can push you up or down... I couldn't have less interest in. Systems like this are fundamentally flawed and wide open for exploitation. All it takes is some kid who created 20 accounts of his own to basically push and dominate whatever agenda he or she desires in any one area. I also wouldn't care about downvotes if legit feedback was given as well. If someone does not like something... tell me why. Usually... the Arma community never shuts up about what could be better or different. That's one thing virtually everyone who attempts to create something encounters.

While I appreciate your in depth analysis of why a three year old video didn't gain steam on youtube, you're assuming I only used "tags" as a form of promotion. I sent that video to 150 people on my steam friends list who play Arma (a lot of which were people who I gamed with all the time)... I posted on reddit and it got immediately voted down and the dislikes came within a few minutes of posting on reddit with not even enough time for someone to have watched the full video. I had someone on my steam friends list send me a message saying "I saw you posted that video on reddit. You shouldn't have done that. The Arma reddit is the most toxic place on the planet". I also streamed every single night on Twitch (no less than three hours for each session, some sessions ran as long as 8-10 hours) during that time and mostly played either Ravage or Breaking Point while running direct links to my youtube channel in the chat and on my channel. For a while I was running a link to the Ravage mod page. I also created a ton of Ravage sandbox scenarios for steam workshop, which brought in as many as 10,000 subs. Most of the scenarios existed with the goal of making it as easy as possible for people to play. Every one of those scenarios linked to either my youtube or twitch channel if anyone wanted more info about the scenarios. To sum... people knew about the videos. It's my own fault for not making them better. Just because I worked hard on something it doesn't mean the finished product turned out great. People overwhelmingly came around for the workshop content, not the youtube stuff. I took this information and tried to learn from it. Perhaps I didn't use as many "tags" as possible for youtube (which has a limit) but it's virtually impossible for someone to do more promoting of Arma and mods for the game than I did between 2015 and 2017. When I was doing those Ravage videos... no one knew what Ravage was. There were very few scenarios on workshop. No one on my steam friends list knew what it was until I started promoting the mod. There was a time where I was hosting random games on different maps almost every day and getting new people into playing. A lot of people came to my Twitch page asking what Ravage was, etc.

I no longer use YouTube, with the exception of occasional streaming (which does not get saved) and sometimes I will upload a clip from Twitch. I just realized I was putting way too much time and effort into it and simply did not get a response from the viewers. For example... I spent at least 8 hours in one day editing and working on one of the Ravage videos I did (this does not count actual recording and gameplay, just editing). The whole goal was to showcase what Ravage is or could be for people. I just checked and that video only has 892 views and it's three years old. I simply couldn't justify continuing to work so hard on something that was going largely unnoticed. Especially when 10 second videos of people farting are getting millions of hits with seemingly little to no effort. I can't connect with the audience and it goes both ways. I'm also not a big fan of the censorship that YouTube have involved itself in. I also received two letters in the mail with invites to class action suits against Google and YouTube for ripping their users off in various ways. Just another reason to not do business with these people. However... I still stream Ravage in some form at least a couple of times a month on Twitch.

After reading the known bug reports for this mod... I don't think it's going to happen now. Just too many things are broken that I can't fix. Probably will not work well for a server just yet. However... I may consider doing some mission related stuff with it. Might be able to pull that off easier.

The only bad thing about the scenarios being included... are people assuming that the scenario is the actual Ravage mod itself. I've seen a lot of comments from people who say things like "Ravage is too hard" and then you realize they are talking about the test demo that comes with the mod. I wonder how many people have confused the two? Having said that... I see absolutely nothing wrong with including test demos or missions for people to play. It does not take away from anything. It only adds to the experience that the Ravage mod is.

Agreed! I had an AI tea bag me after killing me on the Infected WarZones server. He didn't really do that... but he did walk right over my body and then kneel down over my head while I bled out. It looked like he was camping my body, which I love.

There are bear traps of some sort in the open sourced Breaking Point mod. I can't remember exactly how they work. Here's an idea. It could be used as a "mine" only remove the explosion and lower the damage and then use the model from BP mod so it looks like a trap. Maybe add some sort of stun affect to the player so they cannot move for a few seconds, etc.

What's going on man. Just wanted to check in! I'm currently working on a project with another guy on something that's been in the works for a while, but I wanted to let you know that it is in my plans in 2019 to get a server up with a simple G.I.JOE theme. Does your mod have legit server keys? I definitely plan to use your vehicles and soldiers. I'm also making a custom main menu screen with loading screens and a GI JOE theme. The words "G.I.JOE" will not be there but it will be obvious to any fan of the cartoon or comic book from the 80's. There will also be a custom in game UI, etc.

Folks, we are launching the WarZones server in approximately one hour from now. Ravage is an important part of WarZones! You'll see what I mean if you check the server out. It will not be listed on the A3launcher for a few more days, but the server itself is launching tonight. Here is a link to the discord for server info. All are welcome! https://discord.gg/YeksFWb

Okay, so no one should have pointed out that George has posted large pasted code in this forum without properly hiding it in a quote? Do you understand forum etiquette or best practices when posting?
  14. Donnie_Plays

    Ravage

I didn't say that and I've never seen so many people cry and whine over a comment in my life. I'm not the first person to comment on posting etiquette both in this thread and on the BI forums. George threw direct insults and namecalling into a post as a response and no one seems to mind that. It's better for the forum if people hide posted code in their quotes so that users can review the info if they want it. Your feelings are not hurt as a result of it. I'm getting sick of people intentionally derailing this thread. Can we go back to discussing Ravage now? This is not the George Floros thread.

Yeah it has definitely dried up. Arma in general has lost a ton of interest. The only community that seems to be still thriving is the life servers and even that has died off from what it was.

I had no idea you were keeping track of likes or stats on a forum. I pay little to no attention to things like this. This is the Ravage thread. If you want to start a drama thread, feel free to do so. I will not be participating. You shouldn't take things so harshly George. I wanted to emphasize the importance of properly hiding and quoting bodies of code in forum replies.

It's not arrogant of me to point out that large posts (with untested code) which are not hidden properly in quotes may contribute to a lesser form of forum etiquette. I made that post for informative reasons, not to break someone's heart. Some people just are not aware of these things. It's not an attack to point it out.

Please consider this. For me there is nothing on this planet more frustrating than people who post random code that is not tested in the BI forums. It is THIS EXACT REASON that I almost gave up modding two years ago. Understand that this can lead to massive time dumps for people who are trying to learn. I have spent hundreds of hours of my life trying to use untested code that random people post in forums only to discover the code does not work. Please put code in hidden quotes so it is not so difficult for people who want to read through the conversations without seeing large boxes of code (that is untested)

Your biggest gripe is the one thing that keeps me coming back to DayZ, Breaking Point or other sandbox games or mods. I discovered the world of Arma after being bored out of my mind for years with on the rails games that are not worth playing more than one time. For a long time, video games were like that. There was a time as a kid when I could only get a game if I walked into a store and bought it. I might pay $40 or $50 for a game and barely get 10 hours of entertainment out of it if I was lucky. If a game has an endpoint, once you get there, it's not exciting anymore and it leaves an empty feeling of not wanting to play. To give a specific example... in 2011 or so... The Walking Dead came out with a game called Survival Instinct. Being a zombie art fanatic, I couldn't wait to play it. I played through the game and beat it. It took me roughly 12 hours to complete. In the game there were options where you could change the path you take to get from point A to B and it only offered minor variations but no real change to the overall story. Despite waiting my entire life for a game like this, I couldn't replay the game. I got bored immediately. I already knew what was going to happen and it took away any mystery or sense of adventure I may have had playing through it the first time. I went back and tried to replay this game multiple times, but just can't bring myself to play. It's boring. Sandbox games offer me something that most other games can't offer. They offer unscripted circumstances where you can't predict the outcome of situations you get yourself into. They also force players to explore and see what happens. Especially Arma which offers huge maps with plenty to see. The level of thrill that you feel when someone else walks into a house you are already looting, you can't feel when you've played it before or already know it's going to happen. It's just not the same when you know there is an exact beginning and end to the story. I've seen plenty of servers in my life where full groups and teams of players took and held specific towns and cities. Especially in Breaking Point! I've seen 20 vs 20 fights. I've seen one group troll and basically completely control an entire map (Thirsk) and server and if you didn't join their clan they hunted you non stop with helicopters and players on the ground. Talk about intense! As for making a town zombie proof... you could only do this if you script the mission or server to not respawn zombies after they spawn the first time. Otherwise they would just respawn in the town you are trying to keep clear. Most mods spawn zombies within a radius of player activity, for performance reasons. After all, it makes no sense to spawn zombies somewhere where no players are. It would only hurt performance to do so.

What was wrong with AI kneeling or zombies? A lot of Arma players kneel regularly while engaging various threats. Whenever I see AI kneeling it looks realistic to me. They look more robotic when they are standing constantly running a row. I also really dig seeing AI without rifles or pistols in their hands and just running semi geared. They look like players. I have been testing Ravage almost every day for the last two months, because I'm working on a new server that blends styles of Breaking Point, Ravage, Exile, Wasteland and the old DayZ.(by the way... the testing server is live, join the discord for server info here... https://discord.gg/YeksFWb) I have had no problems with either AI or zombies during this process, because I generally have always loved the way that they spawn. I love the idea that sometimes zombies or AI are around and sometimes they are not. I love the occasional quiet breaks in between. It's good for performance and things get more exciting when you know not to constantly expect things happening. The main bug I have encountered regularly is the occasional objects that get searched for loot, flashes and does not allow you to search it. It's such a minor issue I haven't said anything about it. One thing I have found.. there seems to be an abundance of binoculars everywhere in the loot tables. I still find everything else as well. Just more binocs than anything else.

I have noticed that the Ravage zombies seem to follow a strange damage pattern when attacking. For example... sometimes I'll stand next to one and let it hit me for testing. I'll get hit two or three times in a row and my health will only go down to like 92. Then the next hit one shot kills me. Is there a specific range set where zombies kill the player? If it hits a certain number, etc?

@Haleks Is there a way to lock the Ravage AI uniforms to their bodies so that players cannot loot from and switch their uniforms? I would ideally like to be able to loot their guns, vests and backpacks and if possible would like to try and lock the uniforms from being taken. I'm aware of how to lock a uniform slot for players so they cannot throw down what they are wearing but I have had issues with player loadouts being able to switch uniforms even when the slot is locked.
