    [WIP] Terrain "Benzopila"

    New location. Downsized the map. Same theme but less expanses of forest and more town. More info to come.
  2. Introducing my first terrain: Benzopila (current working name) is based on real terrain from an area in the east of Ukraine. It is largely a forested area to the west and an open farm land to the east with a relatively low change in terrain height. This is my first terrain. I've learnt a lot in the process and will continue to adjust things throughout the project. There are a tonne of fantastic terrains out there already so I'm trying to create something a little unique with micro terrain and high detail in a smaller area. I hope there will be some value in my project. Features: 5km X 5km Terrain making it 1:1 scale with the real world Two towns/villages built faithfully to scale Hand buldozed terrain using a 2m cell size Realistic forests representing that found in the area Complex system of both sealed and unsealed roads Large open areas between key terrain Agricultural farm lands Swamped areas Possible features: Small airfield that currently is not present in the area Custom enter-able buildings for greater CQB qualities Forest fortifications including trench-lines and emplacements cut into the terrain. Looking for help with: Custom vegetation and buildings should anyone be interested.     Moving to another crucial asset is my Russian/Ukrainian Pipe Kit I've started. The infamous yellow and rusty pipes that litter the Ukrainian suburbs. Early days yet. Still need to model the supports and valves. Classic yellow painted pipes. The rusty unloved pipes. References from Donetsk

    So I continue to struggle through the curves of learning with Maya. This is the beginning of my modular apartment model. I hope to make it into several parts that could be built together in order to not have one massive model. I'll be able to choose for each instance; number of enterable floors, window frames/doors or none ect. Taking the Meta out of clearing each block. Here are the plans I'm working to.     [WIP] Terrain "Benzopila"

    So I'm halfway through my gap year based in London but getting around Europe frequently. It's proving a good experience to gain reference material and photos. I'm hard at learning modelling/texturing right now and will post more updates as I progress with my new assets. This project is not dead and I'm eager to return to work with renewed enthusiasm in June. Happy New Year.

    So sadly for now my Map is on hold. This is due to having moved countries for a year and not being able to afford to bring my PC or Upgrade. Instead I'm now focusing on content creation which is something I am able to do on a Macbook. My projects will resume May 2018. For now here is a Ukrainian residential substation. Ready for texturing.

    UPDATE. My computer is slowly devolving into a potato. I can't afford an upgrade just yet as I'm about to move to London. I will be taking a Hard Drive with me in hopes of getting a new setup shortly and then continuing the project. Thanks for all the support up until now.

    Took a break today and spent it having my first dabble in 3ds Max. It's very overwhelming but you tube is gold in this situation. Here's my first bang out of a ukrainian/russian apartment building (a corner of it at least). I thought maybe if I make it in segments and have the apartments work like Lego that maybe I could get a lot more out of my work aka make various heights and lengths of apartments when map making. Early days I guess. Anyone got the bible on custom buildings for ARMA 3? Peace.

    It does weigh heavy on me that I can't pull off a like for like realness of Ukraine. I appreciate all the input. I'm going to continue on as is. If people are actually interested in modeling these buildings then I would do everything I could to support them but it's a very niche project and I highly doubt I'll find someone who would.

    Fair enough. I will take this into account. Thanks for the input. Benzopila is a based on a rural village, so I've typed "Ukrainian Village House" into google and the first page seems to be full of these houses. While trying to use only enter able buildings I am quite limited on this project as to what content I have to use. This project is a one-dude show and so I was trying to avoid having to learn custom content creation, something I have little knowledge in. My next project will introduce custom buildings if I can find some other team mates. Could you provide an example of a street of houses that are what you would call "Modern Village" housing? This would be a great help. Thanks.

    Unsure at this stage mate. While it's nice they made trenches on Tanoa, I don't really consider them to be very realistic. I'd probably model my own walls like these: Well spotted. 2m my dude.

    I'm just doing a bunch of re-textures to begin with. I've only spent a couple of hours on it so far. I just want some eclectic uniforms and gear which is something that fascinates me about the conflict. Here is the only screen I have of my first test (not great) of the skins. Obviously RHS have already done 9/10ths of the work. I've still got a way to go working on my own. I'd be interested in anyone who might like to write all the configs (who would be silly enough?)
