    if you guys are really gonna lose sleep over the thought that people might modify the content, decent means of obfuscation exist. really dedicated rippers can get through that if they REALLY want to, but it'll deter a vast majority of it. when it comes to community retextures and shit, there's a few options. you could separate models and textures into different PBOs, scramble the shit out of the models and leave the textures unobfuscated. you could scramble everything and provide rudimentary templates or even just solid colored textures to "approved" texture people on a case-by-case basis. maybe you ask BI pretty please with sprinkles on top let us use EBOs. it can't be that difficult to figure out. or you can go the private mod route, never publicly releasing anything, and become in effect what you sought to destroy.
  5. looks very interesting. love to see a map with a wealth of "military locations". I feel like far too often theres nothing compelling to fight over on a lot of terrains. but that's never really the case with yours.

    well if you do end up doing M17s, I've got the whole shebang if you want any refs. M17A1, carrier, M6A2 hood, and decon kit.
  9. yeah, the cuffed pant legs were also done with photo editing, put a guy off to the side with rolled sleeves and just copy and pasted the rolled parts over onto the pants lol. unfortunately, I cropped the shit out of the shot so there isn't anything in a higher resolution. in order to get a perspective similar to the original, I had to back the camera up a lot. but that would also make the scene a lot bigger and leave a lot of negative space with no reference on how it would look since the original was only so big. also had to make sure the backdrop was all in frame, if it was much bigger you'd probably figure out that I set the scene up in the virtual reality terrain.
  10. sadly, its just trickery. I took 3 separate shots. one where they all had tactical vests, one where they all had ALICE, and one where the two on the right had the holster and the side bag thing. then I just combined them all. on a somewhat unrelated note, I'm pretty sure I've seen a handful of vests configed into the backpack slot. perhaps making the ALICE webbing a backpack could work, but i wouldn't know where to begin with that. its too bad the DHI holster in the glasses slot won't accept the sidearm proxy system.
  11. unfortunately no, what I ended up doing was taking everything out of the original texture that didn't have camouflage on it, using as much of that as possible, and then doing everything else with with the spectral map if I remember correctly. greyscaled that, sharpened it, messed around with brightness and contrast. looking back, I probably should have done the normal map and added my own fabric texture.

    I am completely aware it has been done before. I am also aware that it was a flop. it failed to attract OFP players and console players alike, much like what I said would happen in my original post. and again like I said before, I have no doubt in my mind that stripped back, simplified versions of the editor and multiplayer experience are possible. but they will be stripped back ultimately and capable of significantly less than what arma offers on the PC. but thats not really the point anyway. the point is that there is far too much risk involved for BI. if you want to make developing a game a worthwhile diversion of resources and time, you have to be sure that you're going to get out what you put in. making games is not free. publishing games is not free. making games takes time. time takes money. BI is a business. you are delusional if you think everyone wants to play a game like arma; whether you like it or not, its a niche game. I see almost no chance that the potential audience for a console arma would be big enough to justify the endeavor. I simply don't believe it would appeal to most classic arma fans and the mass market enough to sell enough copies for BI to break even.

    those of you in favor of arma on consoles dont seem to understand that it would be nearly impossible to achieve the level of depth and freedom that arma offers if it were ported to console. the controls are incredibly limited, the hardware is limited, and the software is limited. don't fool yourself into thinking that most people play arma for the SP scenarios and the campaign. SP content doesn't really sell shooters much any more, almost nobody cares about campaigns and stories any more. sure, there could be a rudimentary editor in place and maybe even a self-contained multiplayer scene a-la call of duty or something rather than the community-ran servers like we have now, but that would mean stripping away a lot of the things that actually appeal to its playerbase, while also most likely failing to appeal to the majority of the console playerbase. if you think that the gaming community at large has "matured" and is ready for "realistic" and "hardcore" gameplay, you are completely wrong. the majority of "gamers" are more inclined towards easy, fast-paced, immature gameplay, all polar opposites of what arma accomplishes. and as others have said, it would mean either BI develops one extremely dumbed down version and markets it for PC and console (which I might add would probably drive off its entire PC playerbase and make the game a failure on all platforms), or they develop two separate versions of the game which would be a huge strain on their team and be almost impossible to manage. even the big AAA developers struggle with those kinds of things. in the end, it wouldn't be arma, it wouldn't be fun, it wouldn't be successful, and it wouldn't be easy to develop.

    I've got an old OEF-CP ACU and from all indications the cut is the same as the old UCP ones like you guys already have in the pack, so they would theoretically work for those multicam ones made for ME deployments before OCP came in. and everything else you guys got is OEF-CP anyways. however, I respect the decision to not go against clima's wishes and to leave any further work with the mesh be left to the author. anyways, back before that model was forbidden from retexture I took a stab at an OEF-CP one, it was terrible lmao, almost glad I had to discard it. the only real way I can see good quality alternate textures being made for that model is with the source on-hand and doing it in SP or exporting fresh UVs or something because it really does not lend itself to reverse-engineering like some other assets. best bet is just crossing your fingers that some day clima decides to come back to it.

    sneaky sneaky slipping in those plateframes, very nice stuff. the MRDS scopes are very cool as well. especially dig the team leader setup and the marksman setup with the SCAR mags, any chance of seeing something similar for the MBAV as well?

    I really don't believe it, holy shit. I dished out 75 bucks for my PASGT vest. its in great shape and I've found them relatively more difficult to find lately, but jeez. $5 WITH SAPI plates. looks like I'm moving to Texas boys.

    looks like a really nice update! can't wait to play around with it. I guess its time to retire those RHS PASGT retextures I did to match your uniforms. also, if you need any references on things going forward, I've got a decent amount of shit I've collected. SWDGs, leather speedlace boots, wool watch cap, cold weather cap, MX-991/U, and a whole bunch of ALICE crap including the medium pack, IFAK, and E-Tool+carrier, plus all the normal stuff of course. I should also be getting a steel pot soon to pair with the M1 liner and woodland cover I already have. not that any of it is particularly complicated, but I figured I'd put it out there. EDIT: picked up the M1 steel pot, also got a PASGT vest, will gladly provide reference shots if needed.
