    DSS: The Mod

The best part about what you, Haleks, IndeedPete, Surfer and some others are doing is that you're focusing on SP play. I'd jump on BP or Exile in a second but I honestly feel no desire to hop online and get grieved by people. It's a great time to be a survival oriented ARMA SP type person. The more the merrier. Though you guys merging isn't a bad idea either.

Yep. I have enough room in my heart for all of these survival mods.Last night I played 3 separate ones and would have made DSS number 4 had it received its update. Guess I know what I'm doing Thursday night. :)

On my end, I can definitely "save." But I have not tried loading a save yet so I guess I can't confirm whether or not it works. If Haleks doesn't have time to reply to this today I'll test it out when I get home.

Ha! That's great. He had the kind of gear there I could only dream of last night. :) Throughout the thread you've mentioned several things have been tweaked or fixed, but on my end, it appears the version available on the front page hasn't been updated for a few weeks. Or has it? Just want to make sure I'm most up-to-date here now and going forward. Will the OP always be updated when new versions get pushed out?

I played an hour or so tonight and wow. What you've got going here is fantastic. The conversation mechanics are wonderful and very creative. I can't wait to see what you've got in store for the next update (honestly, one hour in I'd never know this wasn't "complete." The story has gripped me and I can't wait to keep going). Two issues I'm having at the moment right now however are: 1. The window to interact with people or items feels very small. At the beginning, I almost didn't realize I could speak with the guy lying on the ground because the interaction window with the OSD only occurred if I stared at a very specific spot. The same went for speaking with the people at the base after I escaped. I almost didn't realize I could speak to these people or interact with some of the items in the world. 2. Performance. My FPS has plummeted playing this scenario and this scenario only. It's really unstable. To the point it almost feels borderline unplayable so I'm not sure if it's me or if there's an issue that needs addressing. Anyway, I can't wait to keep going because the story seems THAT good. Thanks guys. The atmosphere, environment and especially story seem great right now! I can't wait to dive back in.

Haleks, this has been brilliant so far. I just jumped in tonight for the first time and I've got to say, the ambience and the audio are wonderful. Great job so far. Do you have any tips on how to survive when you're out of ammo? Or are you pretty much screwed? Perhaps I'm taking too 'ARMA' of an approach here and aiming too much for center mass but I ran out of bullets early. Are head shots key? These zombies will chase you relentlessly and for what seems like miles. LOL! You should have seen, I was ammo-less and braved my way into a house with 3 zombies really close (I had no useful supplies and needed something - anything - useful). Two of them spotted me and chased for like two miles. I saw the ocean was ahead of me, so I was like screw it, let's dive in and see if these bastards can swim. :) They actually tried following me in the water! So I swam like hell beyond this massive mountain side thinking there's no chance they'd follow me around it on foot. Well sure enough, I get greeted by those two bastards on the other end and on went the chase. :) I decided it's time for a re-start so I'm about to dive in again right now. Care to share any survival tips when you don't have bullets or at least ways to conserve them? Unless I'm missing something, hand-to-hand or melee isn't in this mod, or is it? Anyway, this is a wonderful start. It's exactly what I was looking for and I CAN'T WAIT until you flesh it out more and add some objectives. You have something really special here.

New player: Quick question about healing/first person noises.

Thanks. This is very useful information. Especially for multiplayer. But what about in SP? About 3/4 of my time with this game is alone. Am I really just destined to listen to this noise in any single player mode that doesn't put me with a medic? In some modes (like WLA), that could mean hours and hours. I'll keep an eye out for medical trucks in some of the modes I like to play. I didn't even know they existed until you mentioned it. Thanks for that tip.

Thanks. I've actually seen those and it looks great for a WIP. Especially considering those were made 8 months ago. I guess I'm more or less wondering if there's a storyline in the current build and if progress can be saved. Sorry to ask that question. I read through the thread and a lot of the more recent talk hasn't been focused on the narrative or the current state of the - for lack of a better word - campaign (or for that matter, the roadmap for future updates).

I had no idea this message meant that info was for sale. Thank you. That part of the game mechanic never made any sense to me. I appreciate the tip. Now that you put it that way, I can see the logic in Alex taking on some bad guys. When I went up against the small unit yesterday, I only had 20 rounds of ammo and a less than ideal scope. I certainly could have used better gear so logic serves that Alex would both want and need these things to accomplish his goal. I don't recall the guide saying anything about reputation, but if so, this already beautiful and deep mission just got deeper. That's awesome. If the part about civilians taking up arms is true then that's some pretty creative scripting too! Nice touch (if it does indeed exist). From what I hear yes! The guide strongly hints at it.I checked out a few LP's (minus the ending) so I wonder if anyone has found it? The way Alex and his family talk about the invention has me very intrigued and kind of scared to find it to be honest. :) That conversation with his uncle has me picturing it turning people into The Walking Dead so I can't say my nerves are ready for the lovely story to go all horror show. Like I said there's an elegance to the writing and presentation of this mod that really strike a chord in me. I've been gaming for a long time and someting about this mod has captivated my imagination. I didn't expect that when I bought ARMA and I couldn't be more thankful for this.

Thanks for the detailed response! This mission has a wonderful beauty to it. The subtlety of the story is as remarkable as it is touching. And the phone calls? Brilliant. Having a brother I'm close to in real life has made this entire experience hit on all cylinders. I'm playing like it was my brother out there and if we're being honest, I can't think of another video game experience that's made me feel this way. I don't think Tyrone has made that call to me yet! I'll keep an eye out but as I said, I think I have "the chapel" on my radar now so I *think* the homestretch is near. I guess that's an excuse for another (maybe more bloody? :) ) play-through though! Last night, right before bed I decided to start messing around. It was late and I saw some enemy AI on my map and I actively started hunting them for no reason other than to do so. It kind of killed the immersion for me (after all, I'd never do that and I highly doubt Alex would either). So I wondered if I was seeking the combat because I felt like I was missing stuff from not finding any bases. But yeah, I agree, that's not the point here. It's to find Alex's brother's body, regardless of the stakes. This round the stakes have been low but who knows what's coming, right? :) Anyway, I've enjoyed this immensely and will places this mission in my heart fondly. Who would have guessed a hardcore milsim could do that? LOL!

New player: Quick question about healing/first person noises.

It makes perfect sense, thank you. Not that I know how to do this stuff but I get what you're saying. It needs to be altered in the game files. That's disappointing. I guess my deep hatred for the noise is actually making me a much cautious player right now :) which honestly is a good thing. I've actually been able to mitigate excessive initial damage on my own just by being more careful and immediately hitting the dirt when I hear shots whizz by me (etc). I don't exactly understand the healing system but it seems to me a certain amount of damage can be healed beyond 80% with a FAK as long as you don't get hit too badly initially. Last night for instance I got hit twice on one occasion but was able to heal my self like normal and never heard the noise. If that's the way it's designed then I can live with that. It was just before I felt like even one bullet meant moaning and groaning for all eternity if you don't have a medic with you. It would seem to me now that isn't the case but I admit I may be wrong on that (but man I hope not). Thanks for the reply.

    [SP] Pilgrimage

I'm wondering, when in a vehicle, do the on-screen objective markers appear (the ones that indicate a civilian I can talk to, a building that has supplies, etc)? I don't think that they spawn when driving but I was wondering if I could get some clarification on that. This is my first play through so I'm taking a more "undercover" approach, only engaging the enemy when necessary. So far, I think I've narrowed down approximately which church the body is in. I found a vehicle relatively early on and haven't been given any indication of any bases I can attack for intel or releasing hostages (I only know of these things because of the guide). So essentially I'm doing a combat free run right now but from a role playing perspective, I have to wonder if Alex wouldn't actually actively seek out these bases to free his brother's comrades and possibly his father's invention? I don't know, I love the story and feel like he would but if I keep going this way, I'll find the body and have only killed around 5 people and not have done any of the other stuff. Long story short I feel like I should actively seek out these enemy compounds but in my vehicle, I don't think any mission markers spawn. Am I wrong on that? It's a large map and I need a vehicle to take Alex's brother's body home. Can I only discover these places while on foot?

[SP/MP] Dynamic Whole Map ArmA3 Missions by SaOk

Yep. You guys were all 100% correct. I needed to place a fortress element first before the tent option would appear. Is the tutorial weaved naturally into the mission or do I actually need to enable it somehow? When my game starts, I immediately get two tasks: Talk to any civilian and build base camp. Is that technically the tutorial section? I'm trying to do an undercover run and I'm getting my ass handed to me. LOL! So any tutorial of any kind would be excellent. I'm new to the series and don't really understand how to lead a squad just yet so I figured I'd go at this as a lone wolf to start. This mission is very hard even on Normal. But I really like how seamless and natural the objectives feel. SoAk really accomplished something special here. BIS' campaign should have been a lot more like this.

[SP/MP] Dynamic Whole Map ArmA3 Missions by SaOk

How do you build the camp with four tents at the beginning of the game? I searched the Steam forums and someone mentioned having to build a fortress first. I tried that to see to see if an option to lay the tents down would appear but I don't think I'm understanding the prerequisites of what building a fortress means. Is it not just a walled in structure with some emplacements to fire from? Any help on completing this objective would be excellent. Not exactly sure what to do. EDIT: I asked this same question over on Reddit and two identical replies. They both told me that after establishing a bunker under the "Fortress" tab, I should then be allowed to select tents under the "Furniture" tab. I tried this yesterday but since they both gave me the same answer, I have to assume I just missed it. Would have been nice to have been told about the Fortress prerequisite somewhere in the game's tutorial but please don't consider that a big complaint. This mod has so much content and at such a high quality too. It just doesn't feel really 'new user' friendly. I'll get the hang of it it time.

[SP/MP] Dynamic Whole Map ArmA3 Missions by SaOk

For mods I'm using Shacktack's UI, Laxemann's Soundscape, and ASR AI and CBA. I'll try disabling the add-ons and going vanilla WLA to see if that was the cause. Sorry to go OT SaOk, but is there a guide that I can reference? I'm not really understanding how to do a lot of the more basic things (the ones that aren't listed in your pause menu guide). For instance, I know you can build bases, shout at enemies to have them surrender and control friendly units from the map, but I'm not exactly sure how to do these and the more advanced things. For whatever reason, my H key isn't pulling up the tutorial prompts. I'm wondering if this is a bug or a mod conflict too? I have no problems with hints using these exact same mods with the vanilla SP campaign so I'm not sure what the issue is. Thanks for the reply SoAk. You have quite a mod on your hands here and even though you're not really supporting it fully any more (I read your explanation on Steam and I support you), I just want to say thanks. This is what the SP campaign should have been.

[SP/MP] Dynamic Whole Map ArmA3 Missions by SaOk

Hi everyone. Sorry if this is a known issue with a common workaround but last night I subscribed to WLA and WLA Add On on Steam. Everything seems to be going fine except when I die. As soon as I get killed and the screen goes white (where I have my respawn menu), no matter what I press the screen stays white. In one instance I could hear that I had actually respawned and was able to move around, but the screen was still white. The only solution I could come up with was simply reloading my save. But that doesn't seem like an ideal solution because that would essentially mean I'd never die during a whole play through. Is this a known issue or has anyone heard of this before?

Can we expect the SP game save function to be rolled out in these initial phases or is this something planned in the later stages instead?

    DSS: The Mod

I just registered here to congratulate you on the initial release! A couple of days ago I started a thread on Reddit asking if anyone could suggest a good post-apocolyptic mod and BAM! DSS gets released! I can't wait to dive in so thank you. Sorry if this is a stupid question - so I apologize in advance - but I'm wondering for SP if I need to do anything like dragging and dropping mission files or whatever to get the full offline SP experience? The initial post is a little confusing about what to do (and what to expect) for the single player mission (or missions?). I have both DSS Workshop mods plus all of the other requirements (aside from the online-only ini-DB mod) and wasn't sure if I just load up the game and launch the mod or if it required any additional action on my end? Also, does this mod have a saving option? Anyway, congrats! I'm excited to give this a go later.
