[SP] Mabuta pack, CWR² v.1.6 demo

On the strange naming. "Mabuta" is an old Soviet Army (and now Russian) jargon for non-flying, non-jumping, and non-sailing personnel. i.e. troops that are not considered as elite - infantry, tankers, artillery, air defense, pipeline troops - you've got the idea. Often used as a kind of derogatory term by airborne or navy folks. In any war, however, it is mabuta who does most of the job on the battlefield. Humble and reliable workhorse of the Soviet Army.

[SP] Mabuta pack, CWR² v.1.6 demo

Greetings, comrades, the pack is designed to provide a gamer a set of relatively short, 20-30 minutes, scenarios full of intense action. The idea was to put a player into the shoes of a rank-and-file soldier taking part in a typical combined-arms operation IAW real-life tactics and doctrinal procedures. And to show this action in the pretext of a hypothetic major war in Europe that could break out in the 1980s. Heavy emphasis has been upon maintaining the original "Operation Flashpoint" atmosphere and mission design style. Spiced with a little extra realism.

    German Assault Addons - Army

to chrisb: probably this was a kind of wishful thinking of mine frankly speaking, haven't been satisfied by any of the A2's AI mods, but seems you have much more experience with the A3 to judge on the subject

    German Assault Addons - Army

Hmm, A3, however, contains some pretty nice features an A2 user can only dream of, like adequate AI suppression, enhanced AI maneuvering to name a few. Combined with such an authentic content as Retro Germans the A3 would definitely become a nice stuff. If you ever converted the entire Pack to A3 I might end up fired, divorced, constantly stinky and unshaven, and happily spending every available hour in-game )

    German Assault Addons - Army

Standing in full solidarity with you guys! The A3 is way too futuristic and unrealistic to take real pleasure while gaming, several years into release and development and the A3 is still way behind the A2 in the content authenticity and gameplay atmosphere. New armor is magnificent! The Marceille's trademark quality is already felt with the naked eye. With Pattons and Duster retro Germans would contain absolutely every item that could be needed to implement virtually any type of combined arms scenario from armored recce to breaching and meeting engagements. Thank you, Marceille77, for keeping this splendid pack actual and fresh!

    German Assault Addons - Army

Greetings, Marseille77, there is some detailed feedback info gathered while playing/editing with the Early Bundeswehr - in case you are interested, sent via PM. Still playing these retro guys/machines - exciting stuff!

SP Mission pack CWR2 "The last war"

Took a number of test-runs with the new CWR's hotfix, no issues found so far, seems the pack is playable with the latest CWR update.

    Requesting ideas for missions

A bit more: http://www.koreanwar-educator.org/memoirs/index.htm#MemoirsFullIndex https://www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/report/call/call_90-6_toc.htm http://www.redtanks.bos.ru/squad_2.htm (would require google translate or something) http://armor.kiev.ua/Battle/WWII/tactik/ (translate req too) even intel reports could be converted to/give a basis for ArmA scenarios: http://lonesentry.com/combatlessons/index.html http://www.lonesentry.com/articles/ttt07/german-habits.html http://www.lonesentry.com/articles/ttt/jap-offensive-tactics-doctrine.html You could simply adjust units/equipment to the appropriate era. The tactics itself haven't changed substantially since WWII in fact: tanks became stronger but they are essentially the same tanks, just heavier. Anti-tank rifles and Anti-tank guns are replaced by RPGs and ATGMs. Machineguns work exactly the same way as 70-100 years ago. Semi-auto rifles became full autos. All engagement distances are more or less the same. Half-tracked carriers became APCs and later IFVs. Sniper rifles are still sniper rifles. Squads got fully equipped with automatic weapons but were reduced from 12-15 men to 6-9 so fire/maneuver possibilities are more or less the same.

Something like this, maybe: https://history.army.mil/books/korea/30-2/30-2_CON.HTM Just replace Koreans/Chinese with the ChDKZ for example, ZiS-3 guns with SPG-9, M26s with M1s e.t.c. - you've got the idea :)

And if you are looking for something that could stimulate the imagination towards ArmA editing you might check out some historical stuff depicting the small unit level ops. Some veteran's memoirs for example. The ones who had been engaged as enlisted/NCOs/junior officers. Memoirs of a general-major won't make any use for the ArmA scale, of course :) I'm pretty sure your nation's military men have plenty of thrilling personal stories. Real ones, not Tom Clansy's trash. Things like US Infantry Magazine, Armor Magazine, Aviation Digest could do as well.

    Requesting ideas for missions

My respects, fellows Encountering the same feeling from time to time ) Well, due to the ArmA engine's features any choice will anyway be limited to squad-platoon level ops. Understrengthed company - maximum. And within a small unit's scope you don't have too much basic options: - assault an enemy squad-to-platoon-sized position; - defend a position against a platoon-company-sized enemy force; - meeting engagement against an enemy force of the similar strength (continuing the attack if the enemy found to be weaker or shifting to hasty defence if the enemy is stronger); - patrolling/scouting; - ambushing an enemy force of comparable strength; - raiding a small outpost (i.e. hit-and-run op); - well, maybe some kind of sneak-in op for a sort of terrorists/freedom fighters. Or specops. Anything a small unit will be doing in combat will be a sort of the above. Or a combination, like seizing an enemy objective, then defending the seized ground from a counterattack (counterattacks), then fighting withdrawal if overwhelmed, or continuing the attack if reinforced. The only real diversity for this engine is using plentiful units/fractions/addons and terrains. Implementing, for example, the same seize & hold scenario in the wooded hills in Chernarus and in the centre of Zagrabad should produce different in-game impressions. And even using the same ground but used in the different direction may also add something new for the gameplay, like advancing through Chernogorsk parallel to the coast versus pushing into the same town from inland.

SP Mission pack CWR2 "The last war"

Hi, since there are no any ideas on the #04's issue for the time being, I plan to move on with completing fixes to other pack's missions. I will get back to it closer to a point when we're ready to release an update. With a fresh eye and an unbent brain I'll probably be abler to come up with something. Found the #07's donekey issue, BTW. For some mysterious reason, I put two ending triggers and the one with missing donekey command had a shorter timeout thus rendering the correct one useless. Fixed.

SP Mission pack CWR2 "The last war"

Four more testruns of the #04 landing. Still had the group leader departing the LZ each time. Stress-tested with heavy CPU load by setting all possible video settings to maximum and launching two heavy virtual machines in the background. Nope. The performance drop doesn't affect this thing. Tried time acceleration twice and immediately got 3 group members running somewhere into the hills westwards of the LZ and failing to "return into formation". Helicopter crashed. Albeit these were gunships, not assault Kamovs. Did you use time acceleration on any test runs?

Understood on #07, will recheck. Thank you. Yeah, donekeys are set in GameLogics' waypoints throughout the pack in the same manner.
