    [WIP] Iwagi, Japan

Updated the southern islands a bit. However, my sat is a little screwy elsewhere because I moved a layer in Gimp, so there's concrete in a lot of places where there should be grass. XD No worries, I'll just have it fixed on next update.

    [WIP] Iwagi, Japan

I should probably mention that I havent been getting as much done lately due to an issue with my right hand. Getting old sucks yo. I got a lot of work done to the little crag rock island thingy to the south west. I'll probably work on the south eastern island next. I'm thinking of replacing the large airfield with some houses and crops since it doesnt really make any practical sense as is. Over 1000 subscribers though. Cheers!
  3. Lookin good. Man I remember when you first started posting these, talking about it on skype, and its been a year and a half wow. Time flying for you? XD Having original assets like these is going to make for one hell of a terrain, looking forward to seeing it. I keep finding myself wanting to do the same thing, but being as I'd be learning from scratch I'd probably be working on it for a couple years and never get back around to actually using the assets myself. This is inspiring though, keep it up!

    Camp Pendleton Terrain

Shared this link with him but I'll drop it here too for anyone that comes across it. http://pmc.editing.wiki/doku.php?id=arma3:terrain:ultimate-terrain-tutorial That is the most up to date and complete tutorial out there put together by Snake Man. He's invested a sh!tton of time into it the last few months.

    [WIP] Iwagi, Japan

Fixed up my sat and surface maps around Iwagi City and southern tip. http://imgur.com/a/hqQSr Look a little better Aussie? =D
  6. Or just make a separate fire escape model like BI did. Though that'd be a bit more work than a ladder. *puts foot in mouth*

    [WIP] Iwagi, Japan

Yeah I got rid of those models, there were too many issues with them and they clashed. I'm using Em buildings now which are a bit better for combat imo. As for sat and mask, I'm constantly reworking it. I got a lot of the hilltop finished up, but working around everything in the city is quite the chore, it'll take a bit of work. I would have *loved* to have kept it more Japanese but it just wasn't really possible with what I had to work with. One of my goals was to keep the filesize small. I don't have next to no experience with doing models and didn't want to spend another 2 years on this small terrain anyways. That's why I was contemplating changing the name of it, but alas, it's pretty set in stone at this point. And yeah I don't think I saw any Christian churches on any of those islands IRL =P That's how I started it, but it just wasn't working. I wanted to get more creative and instead it was just turning into something that didn't make any sense, and too much repetition. I really needed some small houses, but of course that doesn't really work well in Arma due to player model clipping etc. Nice screenshots btw! PS: I'm going to be removing a lot of trees, they look nice but not very good for gameplay and RIP fps. Frames *are* a little rough in the maintown, there's a lot of objects. Let me know how it runs for you.

    [WIP] Iwagi, Japan

I've released iwagi on Steam workshop. I removed MattAust Arma 3 Custom Buildings and PLP's mods and only requires Em Buildings now(and Apex of course). http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=859358014&searchtext=iwagi I did some retexturing of the ol' Arma 2 apartment buildings. They're kinda buggy right now, I'm going to see if I can use CUP's models(I think they're still working on them actually). But the PBO is included with Iwagi.

Yeah thats kinda the direction I was leaning toward. =P

    [WIP] Iwagi, Japan

Well originally I wanted to make it more Japanese, but there arent any models out there that fulfilled my needs. Also, I wanted to keep it to BI's stuff as much as possible(Im probably going to remove mattausts buildings and plp's fences and barriers). Also Iwagi has become a fictional island, Ive changed too much for it to resemble much of the real island. Not using Altis/Stratis objects would have limited my palette a lot. Not rude, I encourage any suggestions or criticism. ;)

    [WIP] Iwagi, Japan

Wow didnt even see this for some reason. I have places all over where water would run if, you know, water could run in Arma. But the one I was talking about is more like a manmade stream and i havent finished it yet. It just runs around the ball fields in the north east.

    slope behaviour

I've found that's not entirely accurate. Some objects like sidewalks will work in this way, while others like piers will not. Most fences and walls are built to slope to the ground, which doesn't happen in Xcam, and you can't just twist it to sit horizontal because it's still skewed(I know there's a setVectorUp class you can use for objects but I'm not sure how to do that with terrain objects). I've learned all this the hard way as well, had to go back and fix a TON of fences etc. I've learned what objects react in what way and place things in Xcam accordingly. Go into TB and throw down different objects you plan to use on a hill side and see how they react. Then once you have an idea of what objects you can place in xcam you can develop a workflow accordingly. Unless uh... BI decides to fix their tool at some point... achem, not going to bother crossing my fingers on that one heh.

    [WIP] Iwagi, Japan

Got a lot of the hilltop done, fixed sat and mask in a lot of places. However, I'm still trying to get clutter to work properly.
  14. Since no one has mentioned it here, Mikero's pro/subscriber tools now include Apex dummy files as well as a list to use with Xcam. His tools also include Lappihaun's buldozer script for roads etc.
  15. BTW Kiory is also working on a monument to Bushie. He should be on later. https://www.twitch.tv/kiory123

    [WIP] Iwagi, Japan

Got the additional islands all shaped out, threw down the road shapes, and placed a bridge from Kosagi+Airstrip to Iwagi. Maybe I'll do some polygon fills tomorrow/today... later.

    [WIP] Iwagi, Japan

Plopped hilltop objects into TB and the fences are all screwed up, go figure. So I took a break from that and added some smaller islands. =3 In the south west I added a rock stack with a lighthouse. South east I took the Japanese island named Kosagi and added a runway I got from Maui, Hawaii. Adjusted a road leading to the airport. Planning on running a bridge to this island from Iwagi. North east I added Kokatsu island, containing a ton of industrial thingies. Merged it with the east coast of Iwagi and shooped it up a bit, adding a football field and stream. http://imgur.com/TGz8w2T

That airport terminal though. Was that all Poolpunk? Very nice to see high quality work coming from the community. =]

    [WIP] Iwagi, Japan

So I have a build version you can load up if you want to check it out so far. This mostly just has the main town filled out. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwrK9GSBuJ2JaHBhS3NIVUZHeDQ/view?usp=sharing I've been working on the hilltop military and residential areas for the last week or so. Tonight I placed a f@#kton of fences in Xcam. You can see some screenshots of my progress in my imgur album. http://imgur.com/a/hqQSr Note: Some things look screwy because I have to take it back into TB and readjust them, like roads, moving trees, etc. I'm going to turn some of the roads on the hilltop to dirt.

    [WIP] Iwagi, Japan

I've been going back and forth with the idea of renaming my terrain since it's pretty different from the IRL island. Besides the buildings and vegetation, I've chopped the top of the mountain off, altered a lot of roads, etc. However, it does still resemble the real place in some ways. On the first post, I've added a pole. If you guys have an opinion, please share.
  21. Convert to RGB and limit your pallet to only the colors you're using. When you run colors into one another you're introducing more colors that are not defined in your config.

    [WIP] Iwagi, Japan

I think I might have all buildings in main town finished and most of the fences, walls, sidewalks, and got about half of the electrical poles/lines down. And a church and cemetery. I think I'm going to start fixing my sat and mask now.

Core A3 + Apex + "Arma 3 Buildings" by MattAust, also using some of PoolPunk's barriers etc.
