Aculaud 0 Posted April 24, 2002 Ok, why do we all play OFP? Because we enjoy it, it rules! Its the perfect blend of realism and glorified combat. We play it because its the closest a lot of us will get to real war without actually being there. And its a good way to express our urges to fight in a war without the risk of dying. So bear with me here. Consider the notion of actually being in OFP, or a situation like it. Your ideal situation in battle, just for the sole purpose of enjoying it. What would it be? Would you be a tank commander? would you be the machine gunner in an infantry detachment? would you be a Navy SEAL? what? My choice would most likely be a sniper in the Rangers, U.S.M.C., or delta force. Something like that. In some ways i think it would be a blast to experience something like that. World War 3, behind enemy lines, taking shots as they come to me, hiding out in resistance bunkers for sleep and shelter. My ideal kit would go like this: Primary arm - M40 A3 Secondary arm - HK G36C Side arm - FN Five-Seven -As much ammo as i could comfortably carry -Light body armor -A ghillie suit capable of accepting different materials -Claymores And of course food and water as needed
Pukko 0 Posted April 24, 2002 Air Force Since I'm so lazy, its the only thing I really know about, and I'm quite safe with our mobile service capabilities + several layers of protection. And of course I'm part of the most lethal weapon around EDIT: I saw you asked what one would enjoy the most - but since I'm probably not very keen on directly killing, thinking about the pathetic reasons wars are fought for, I will keep my choise ANOTHER EDIT: I dont think the 'killing' in OFP is fun at all, my dedication for OFP is rather about the atmosphere of the world and the unique 'unlimited' possibilities. I'm still after 12 months of playing fashinated by the virtual world in it self

KingBeast 0 Posted April 24, 2002 Paratrooper for sure Not only do you get to jump out of planes, you also go straight into the thick of things, most likely spear heading any major assault. Of course not that being the first ones to go in and die is glamorous at all, but if i had to go into a major conflict then I would rather go in kicking and screaming and taking down as many of the opposing force as possible than lurking around in the Rear Echelons swapping stories about how badly or how well the war was going. As for ideal weapons? Who cares. Anything that works would be fit to use. Besides its not like your going to get much choice in the matter
Akira 0 Posted April 24, 2002 I picked Naval but then accidently hit the Null Vote button so there should be one vote for navy. Always had a fascination with the Navy and the sea...so thats for me. Preferably on a DDG/FFG....not on A CVN...screw that...
LordZach 0 Posted April 24, 2002 flyin hogs. beautiful planes...
KingBeast 0 Posted April 24, 2002 I must admit the navy is slightly appealing to me, though only because of my nations proud naval history
Canukausiuka 1 Posted April 24, 2002 I'd want to be piloting a helicopter, preferrably a combat / close air support one, but even a chinook would be better than running/driving around on the ground. Flying a plane like the A-10 wouldn't be bad, either (except I prefer choppers). But either way, I wouldn't want to get much closer to the action than my monitor can take me! ChickenHawk 0 Posted April 24, 2002 Helos are the wtg. Navy= it only takes 1 missle and yer gone. Infantry=cannon fodder, stuff to shoot at when your bored. Amour= ok, but your a nice big target and tanks are well known for burning.. Spec Ops=No backup if u get bagged. Fleet Air Arm= Fly out over the enemy with bad azz weapons shoot them 2 sh&t. Then retreat at 200mph back to your aircraft carrier which is nicely protected by every other ship in the fleet. I only envy the harriers because they can retreat at 800mph. The only other thing I would consider would be a sniper. Work alone, well hidden etc. Or a machine gunner in a well protected & dug in bunker.
KingBeast 0 Posted April 24, 2002 Aircraft carriers may be nicely defended, but they are also the biggest targets and most important targets to an enemy force. The first thing they want to sink is an aircraft carrier
PHY_Hawkeye 0 Posted April 24, 2002 Flying HELOs. I'd love to be a CSAR pilot. I'll hopefully be joining the RAF as a chopper pilot. I prefer choppers over fixed wing aircraft because they are more versatile, although you are generally going to be closer to the action in a chopper.
Assault (CAN) 1 Posted April 24, 2002 Armoured Pros - Surrounded by 60 tons (+or-) of armour with a big f*ck off gun to protect you. Cons - You are a big attractive target, why do you think tanks are called bullet magnets? Navy Pros - No hand to hand fighting involved. No huge physical labour involved. Cons - You are sitting in the middle of a bomb, rocket, and cannon magnet. It sucks if you sink or catch fire. Air Arm (this includes choppers and planes) Pros - You get to fly, you have alot of high tech weapons at your disposal. Cons - So do the SAM and AAA batteries. You are now a flying bullet, rocket, and missle magnet. Artillery Pros - you do your fighting in the rear areas with a big f*ck off gun. Cons - Whats the fun in that? Infantry (this includes snipers, para, spec ops, and regular forces) Pros - you are a small target. there are more like you all around, giving the enemy more targets and less to shoot at. you can move freely and are not confined to space, (tanks cant duck down and dodge fire like people can). you get your own personal weapons and grenades You are the backbone of ANY fighting force. Cons - enemy gas attacks, land mines, artillery, tanks, navy, air force, snipers, spec ops, paratroopers and opposing infantry are all out to get you. Isn't that grand? Grey Fox 0 Posted April 25, 2002 As a 11B weapon specilist in a USSF A-Team with 11 other highly trained specialists. I would HAHO jump into enemy terrirotory with a 130lb ruck containing whatever and fly with my MC-4 guidable parachute 25miles into enemy territory.I would then train any resistance forces and then hit and run convoys and kill high ranking officers, and destroy high value equipment, ruining their ability for command and control. Then the "conventional" army would take over from there as I am extracted by the 160th SOAR and have a beer as I get leave in the states. Sure as hell beats being the regular bullet stoppers. Wreck-It 0 Posted April 25, 2002 Spec ops. You spend a lot of time training, so there is more chance of success. Alsoi more intel ressources are allocated for Special ops then for normal warfare, since most missions are more sensitive. An airplane is a flying cofin, a boat is a disaster about to happen and a tank is a very obvious and fragile target from the air. I guess my prefered assignement would be the MASH camp. (Even if you did'nt mention it in the poll) I would start wearing a dress and a wig
ESSSYFAX 0 Posted April 25, 2002 Armoured Gunner on an APC-302 or Technician in a cave thats capable of withstanding a nuclear blast. ... Probably the later.
Aculaud 0 Posted April 25, 2002 Yeah, some parts of me would just fully dig being a sniper in a major war. Behind enemy lines, layin' low, taking the shots of opportunity, etc. I really get a kick out of that whole sabotage by assassination, bringing the enemy down from the inside sort of thing. Wreck-It 0 Posted April 25, 2002 Not me. I like food. I love food. can't be more than a mile away from the snack bar or cafeteria. Behind ennemy lines, for days on only a coupkle of rations, with the same underwear cutting through your skin, soars and damp clothing... I think i'll stick to the MASH, and wear a dress. Since the SF CMF is secondary, (kinda like getting another degree) all SF soldiers have a primary MOS. So you can be an 11B and an 18B. etc... When I go back to go through SFQC I would have three MOS's 11B, 96B, and 18?. All though I am particularly fond of SF, I would say that the beating heart of every army is the infantry. Queen of battle. All other units exist to support the grunt.
Aculaud 0 Posted April 25, 2002 This is certainly true. If theres one thing i learned from real time strategy games, its that theres nothing a whole shit-load of general infantry cant handle. I just really admire the support role.
