Support from BI for MP is extremely poor!

Recommended Posts

OK, if I have your attention then I'd like to say that support from BI is absolutely the most lacking I have seen in a long time. People are posting legitimate MP problems here and they're not getting addressed. I've posted a serious legitimate problem here and I wait for weeks and still get no or almost useless information.

To BI, you guys need to fix the problem with the STEAM download! I've come to the conclusion after reading up on other threads that the problem with people setting up a private server in the MP setup and others not being able to connect is that there's something significantly different between the STEAM and boxed version. I have other players that can connect to my setup if they have the boxed version but one guy with the STEAM version that can't and vice versa.

I've been a big fan since the original OFP days and played ARMA without having this issue. It's really sad because it's such a great sim and I would really like to invite other people to join me but they just get frustrated and quit. The available public servers run all kinds of mods that make it difficult to find one that's compatible so playing peer to peer is the only option for some of us. You're losing potential future customers by all the difficulties we're coming up against!

They are a small company and they do what they can. They actually provide WAY better support than any company out there. Their staff is really personal and actually takes the time to carry conversations (I'm sure everybody here has talked to Dwarden or even played with him before).

I try to tell people to buy the games from Sprocket instead so you get it directly from BIS and you know there won't be as many issues... but some people just love Steam that much.

Don't get me wrong, Steam is a great tool, but for a game like ArmA 2... I wouldn't bother with it.

Instead of making a bad accusation such as your current one, hang around for a while and ask people for help in a normal tone of voice. Nobody wants to help an overreacting person!

I wouldn't take what he said in a bad way. It is true that BIS has great support compared to most companies, but its support for multiplayer has been very poor up until now (they are fixing stuff now). Most of the features and fixes have been for other parts of the game. The game excels in single player and the editor, but multiplayer is definitely poorly supported. There is nothing wrong with acknowledging this.

OK, number one, there's nothing wrong with my tone. If you went back and looked at my original thread you would have seen that it was posted in the end of May. It took almost three weeks for someone to respond but it's not relevant since it pertains to dedicated servers. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=99748

The next time I posted on this problem was in another thread which was summarily ignored. Again, because it mainly pertains to dedicated servers but I was hoping that someone would pick up on it and give me a solution. http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=99590

Second, I've been extremely patient and respectful of other people on this forum. I've never directly criticized anyone or said anything that could be construed as disrespectful and my complaint here is not without merit.

I'm a pretty patient person but this is ridiculous. I've waited almost 2 months and still have the same problem and no one seems to know the answer! I play with a group of about 8 people and we've all been huge fans of OFP and ARMA but ARMAII is driving people nuts. I personally convinced about 5 people to buy it for the box price which was about $45 US and that $225 and now no one wants to play it because of all the problems. So close to $400 for all of us and we lost people right and left due to this issue.

This is the official BI support forum correct? I mean that BI people are supposed to be reading the threads and responding to the forum correct? Well they don't or at least not enough. The lame excuse that they are a small company and that you may have had great support from them is not any excuse in my opinion. I'm frustrated and you're not, that's grand. I'm also not alone. I've been reading the forums enough for MP support and I continually see people with similar problems and lack of response.

My point is that BI needs to get off their butts and address this issue is what I've been trying to point out. Not everyone likes to run on dedicated servers so this is a serious problem and if they're going to have a contract to let Steam provided a down-loadable version of the game, then they damn well better make sure that it works just the same as the one that comes out of the box!

QFT!

Blaming BIS for not providing support for their titles is just wrong! They may not fix your specific problem overnight but they do listen and their support is long term, no doubt!

Sorry to hear you are having problems but I think you are expecting to much from this forum. Expecting the developers to keep up with the constant flood of posts and sort out and answer valid issues between all the crap and BS is a bit much.

I personally see this more as "user to user" help forum with the dev's eventually answering a hard question or two when/if they bump into them. I suggest that you use their support e-mail address instead (or maybe use CIT2 that Cossack is pointing to).

BTW: This is the same for other games/sims forums I'm on, expecting any developer to keep up with everything happening in a popular forum is not realistic IMO.

Hope you guys get your issue sorted...

/KC

well let me put it this way

you had no logging and thus your issue was 'lacking' any usable data to be able help you

the second post was resolved as users were simply missing game files

also, i suggest You look on the amount of BI staff reading this forum, answer threads and activelly taking part in discussions (even not related to just issue fixing)

before claiming otherwise

also one more thing, that noone post at Your thread didn't mean noone read it ...

(go by simple answer when there is something to answer to)

so if the problem is too generic too vague then awaiting fast switch resolving help is quite strange

so please take read here: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?t=102991

the more detailed or precise your issue report is the faster it might be resolved

Gee, I finally get a response from someone from BI, what a surprise!

If someone had told me I need to post more information back on May 30th I would have done so. So because I didn't have enough information it was just ignored instead of someone telling me what you just stated. MAYBE, someone should have pointed me there to begin with!

If you haven't already you should of created a ticket instead of complaining.

Great, another hoop to have to jump through. What fun!

Why don't you fuckin blow me!

why don't you enjoy the ban your probably going to get.

Nobody wants a new person in the community that has no manners and no input... just complaints and rudeness.

Good luck in your future affairs!

I think that's the point reached where it's pointless to keep the thread going on.
