No More OA Demo?

Recommended Posts

A few days ago the main Arma 2 OA site said a demo is "Coming Soon", but now there is nothing of the sort. So is it not coming out now? Sorry if this has already been covered.

it's just an expansion, there isn't really a need for a demo. ArmA 2 was super-revolutionary compared to armed assault, OA added in some incredible features, but nothing I would want to download a few gb demo just to try. (by then I would of already bought the game)

and then you have to think about the devs, is it worth their time to make a demo?

so , I don't think it's coming out.

^ Well that's what I feared, but does anyone know of anything official?

The last official word on the demo was that there would be one, just no statement on when it would be released. I think all they said was, "we'll try to get the demo out as close to the OA release as possible".

Hi and welcome!

Try the ArmA II demo. It's basically the same just with a different scenario and settings. So you can make up your mind if BIS games are something you might like.

kind reagrds

^ I have, along with the all the old OF games along with ArmA 1 (Resistance is one of my all time Fav's). I just want it to get fully patched before a spend $50.

This kind of thing never gets "fully patched". Just buy the expansion and enjoy what it's there (and there's plenty). The patchs will make it better but even broken you could decide to buy the product to support the ongoing work that BIS has been doing since OPF. You are not just buying a game here, you are financing a project. You just need to enter into an Arma state of mind to see it, that's all .

No, its not the same. THe base build of the OA its WAY better then the A2 demo. They should release the demo to "clean" the image of the game been buggy or have poor performace.

Agreed. For me, OA craps on ARMA 2 from great heights. ;p

I agree.

With digital download people will be browsing for mid range games for ages and if the game has a crappy demo 3 years or so down the line it will hurt sales, I think.

Heck, I just re-bought Thief 3 a week ago and that game is mega old.

Not that Thief 3 had a demo I tried, but the point is I bought a really old game and so will people probably do with "strange" games like Arma 2 in the future.

I don't want to argue about such a trivial thing. It's true that OA is a further developement based on ARMA II, with lot's of new stuff and improvements. Don't get me wrong I love this series, rarely playing anything else. And in case you guys didn't notice also OA has bugs and some people are facing poor perfomance. You guys read sometimes the trouble shooting threads? WTF. Take a look at the CIT and you'll see even OA is not perfect yet. BIS will improve the game with further patches as they always do, but there are still issues that BIS couldn't fix since CWC. AI driving skills for e.g.. I could go on and list some other serious issues, which are still there, but I won't, because I'm confident that BIS will try to fix these things.

It is going to be hard for BIS to get rid of the image to release buggy games.

And these bugs are also related to their ambitious undertaking of developing their games and most probably they will never be perfect, but I can live with that, the same as all the other community members.

Just my 2 cents.

kind regards

OA is deffinetly worth it content wise.

theres still some core problems

*LOD handling/memory management

*AI

*performance inconsistancies

Its a very playable and enjoyable game though if you got a modern rig, you dont have to max it out to make it look beautiful I play on medium/high with a good res and its amazing looking.

When buying a BIS product you're also funding a project, the next engine build and the future of the genre.

OA is only 39 dollars on amazon where I got it from, the campaign is excellent, AI is somewhat better, graphics are really nice, all the new features work very nicely (doesnt seem like they were half developed like in Arma 2), voice overs are good, music is excellent, Editor is even better, I can go on forever.

Find someone to play coop missions in the editor with and you will have a million dollar experience everytime!
