Who are the Naked Fanatics?

The Naked Fanatics are a casual but mature multi-gaming clan that has been around for several years. We are also a tight-knit but welcoming community, the members of which live across the globe. We have members in the British Isles, Scandinavia, Holland, Belgium, the United States, Lithuania, Greece, Australia, and probably some more places.

Games we play include (but are not limited to) :

Battlefield - Bad Company 2

Left 4 Dead (2 mainly, but 1 is also played sometimes)

The Total War series also holds a special place in our hearts, since that's where our roots are.

Currently, we have about 9 or 10 people who can play Operation Arrowhead, and right now we are trying to raise that number to allow for more diversity in our missions. (and because in ArmA2, it really is the more, the merrier!)

(Edited 18 September 2010: There are now just under 30 people who own ArmA, and especially our Sunday games are getting bigger; almost enough to fill our 16-slots server)

So what do I get if I join?

You will gain a group of laid-back people to play with. We are planning to purchase a server to run Operation Arrowhead on, especially since we expect our playercount to swell. We own a Ventrilo server and a discussion forum. A website is being planned, but we are not particularly prioritising this. Most importantly, you will be able to play in a relaxed and enjoyable environment while not losing sight of serious conduct during missions.

We have two people currently making missions for Operation Arrowhead, so there will be an endless supply of missions. We do take requests! (but not from just anyone!)

Is this stuff all free?!

As hard as it is to believe, yes! However, we do require that you are mature (keep in mind that age does not play a part here; maturity is something that goes beyond age) and fit in well with the group (which really should not be too hard considering we are all really, really nice! ;) ).

Of course, owning Operation Arrowhead is pretty much required, otherwise playing it will get rather difficult. ArmA2 is a bonus but not required. We will most likely be focussing on Arrowhead anyway. Two other software-related requirements are Ventrilo and Steam. Steam because it is our main method of communication outside of the game, and Ventrilo because it just makes our lives that much easier every now and then.

This is all that is required to join us in game. Becoming a full Nudist is an entirely different matter altogether, but let us not get ahead of ourselves. ;)

So... When do I get promoted? What ranks are there?

Never, and none. We do not have fixed roles. Instead, we trust that people who pick certain roles will know how to fulfill them, and we expect those who know these roles, to teach them to others as well. This ensures that everyone becomes skilled all-round (if he or she so wishes to be) and more importantly, everyone gets a go at everything. After all, we want people to have fun, and we want to have fun ourselves, and not being pushed into roles you don't like is an important part of that.

Some points to take into account:

-We endorse a relaxed, laid-back and enjoyable gaming environment

-We would like to execute our missions with a certain level of seriousness, so not too much faffing about

-We probably keep our game un-modded, so ACE2 is not required (the only exception is when there is a 100% consensus that a mod be included)

-We do not play competitively, but for enjoyment only

-We prefer COOP, but we do not rule out the possibility of TvT

-Anyone can play with us; you do not have to be a member (but if we really like you, we will beg and beg until you become one)

-No one is worth more than someone else. There are no ranks outside of the game, and anyone can have a go at leading the/a squad

But the biggest news is that of the Bald Eagles: our very first in-house squad. This unit operates within the Naked Fanatics clan, and will be focussing solely on ArmA. The group will accept members and non-members of the Naked Fanatics alike; our doors are open to everyone. You can find more information about the Bald Eagles here. This means that you can become a memnber of the Bald Eagles before (or without ever) becoming a member of the Naked Fanatics.

Update 12/7/2010 (or 7/12/2010 for US people ;) )

We now have our own server. It is 16-slots right now (as more people join up, new slots will be purchased to make room for them) and based in London. Americans and an Australian have played on it with no lag problems.

To find the server, simply filter for =NF= (the server is called =NF= The Naked Fanatics) and it'll show up. If you want to connect by IP, here it is:

The server is not passworded yet. We might close it down after a while, or decide to put on a password in the weekend and leave it open on weekdays. We will update it here if anything changes.

The server has not got many missions so far, but we're working hard to remedy that.

It was passworded because it was getting distracting to re-brief the random new people coming in during missions, sometimes leading to unnecessary delay and/or deaths. (which of course is something to be avoided! :p )

The amount of missions is increasing gradually. Some custom BETA missions have been uploaded, as well as live fire training missions for armoured support and heli insertions. Expect more missions, both made by ourselves and missions taken from Armaholic.

Hello again!

It has been a while since we last updated this thread, and as a result we have quite some news to share!

First off, I am happy to welcome quite a few new regulars to our server and forums. Our server is now more populated on a regular basis, making for larger and generally more fun games. It enables us to play larger missons and actually fill up a good number of slots.

However, we still have plenty of open slots left on the server and anyone's welcome to fill them up! (in fact, if the server will ever max out on a regular basis, we will increase the amount of server slots to meet the increasing demand. We actually hope that we will have to do this at some point!)

Our server

It has been a while since I updated anything here, and I would like to take this chance to do so!

Some propaganda

Of course, this whole post, nay this whole thread is propaganda. But it's going to be a bit more visible in this bit.

-The Naked Fanatics are, as previously stated, a fun-loving multi-gaming group that formed over four years ago. Lately, some of us have started focusing on ArmA and we have grown considerably since then. This is mainly due to ur easy-going, relaxed attitude when it comes to other players. When in our server, you will find yourself urged to follow orders and generally play smart, but you will not be shouted at if you make a mistake. We try and enforce proper comms, but we do NOT insist on 'sir' or saluting. We don't even have fixed ranks; everyone is an equal. Of course, when in missions we need to have leadership, but leadership positions are open to ANYONE, including new members or even random players as long as they exhibit the qualities required. -The Bald Eagles are a subgroup of the Naked Fanatics and accepts NF members as well as new members into its ranks. Our primary focus is ArmA and the realism that comes with it, without losing the relaxed attitude of our parent group the Naked Fanatics. Our joining requirements are pretty easy-going (more so than those of the Naked Fanatics) and you can find yourself to be a member within as little as three weeks! This period is mainly a familiarisation period to get acquainted to all the members; no training is required. We believe that people will learn the appropriate skills through action and practise, and we are never too busy to help people figure out something or to teach people how to do things. Members and Growth

We have been getting a good influx of new members. Many of them come from either the Youtube videos or from finding us by chance in game... and they stick around. We have been having full servers with an increasing regularity, especially when we are running Insurgency.

For this reason, we increased our server slots to 24 (instead of 16), to offer room to more people and make for even more awesome missions!

Missions

Several of our members have begun learning to use to editor and as a result we have been getting some lovely varied missions on the server, for Chernarus and Takistan alike. This means that we can offer a more varied mission assortment than ever, and this will only increase as our new mission makers improve on their skill and start pumping out more missions!

Regular Events

As it stands, we have two weekly events that we all try and attend (to varying success). These are Cherno Friday and the Sunday Event. On Cherno Friday, we usually play missions based on one of the original two islands for ArmA2, mainly enjoy the trees, grassy fields and sea breeze. On the Sunday Event, we usually pick one of our many custom made missions and play them with as many people as possible, and in an organised manner.

We are also planning a new regular event. This would be a monthly Pro-Event, during which we would most likely lock the server and endeavor to make everything as realistic as possible, including firing drills, formations, communication, ROE and so on. This would take our regular conduct a notch up.

Bald Eagles

Since the last update, the Bald Eagles have grown tremendously, and we now have over twice the amount of members with which we started! I am glad to welcome Viking, Skipper, OAAN, EDcase, Rik and Daftmedic to the original group of Thorin, Bloodbane, Porkyjack, O'Brien, Gibbon and myself!

We also set up more comprehensive joining requirements (which are not difficult to attain, I might add) and instituted a polling system by which applicants can become members. Becoming a Bald Eagle is your first step to becoming a Naked Fanatic if you wish to... but you're more than welcome to remain a Bald Eagle and receive all the benefits!

The past few weeks have shown that the Bald Eagles offer what I intended it to offer: sportsmanship, a friendly atmosphere, leadership when needed, professionalism in game and generally a hell of a lot of fun!

Team AgentOrange

Our server would not have been half as full without these guys and I think because of that they need particular mention. Since the starting days of our server on Operation Arrowhead, they have been coming into our server (after finding it by chance, which seems to be an excellent recruiting method, come to think of it) and populating it even when we were not online ourselves. The fact that they uphold nearly identical values to ours only makes this more fortunate! We hope to be able to welcome you into our server for a long time to come, and I also hope that our communities will be able to complement eachother even more! :)

In this mission, a British force needs to secure a C130 crash site in Garmsar and find the UAV it was carrying. If the UAV is not aboard the aircraft wreckage, search for it in the surrounding area.

Friday Game

This game will be taking place on Chernarus, on a mission that will be toned down from its original form because it was just TOO HARD. However, don't make a mistake in thinking it will be easy now. Sign up for Friday, starting time still to be decided! The game is likely to start later in the evening due to people having work to worry about. This is the first time the Cherno-Friday is being organised from a signup thread, so don't be late!

Sunday Game

The weekly Sunday Event has been going strong for almost 5 months now, and its player counts have been rising steadily, as has the general level of play encountered on the Sunday Event. One need only watch the videos from old and new sunday events to see the difference. This week, we will be playing a new sort of mission that fully utilises the advantages of ACRE, a radio simulation addon for ArmA. be sure to sign up before all the good spots are taken! The game will start on Sunday at 15:00 GMT (16:00 CET). Be sure to be early so games won't have to be restarted and if there are technical issues, they can be resolved before it begins.

We have been using ACRE for a while now on our operations and the addon really adds a lot of immersion. In each of the signup threads will be several links to ACRE-related threads and sites, and group members will always be willing to help you install the addon if you are having problems.
