How do you setup a dedicated server via steam install? (Operation Arrowhead)

Recommended Posts

Is running the main exe with -server parameters the only way to run Operation Arrowhead? Or is there a dedicated server exe out there that I can't find?

Or will using the _runA2CO.cmd and changing the path to make it run as a mod on Arma2 a better route?

Dedi on steam is not yet released.

Someone mentioned it will be released this week....

That release will also get rid of the "_runA2CO.cm" need.

So just wait until Steam has an update and then check again.

Hi guys!

I've been around a while so I know my Armastuff, but, thanks to a surprise win on a recent tournament I've become an OA Steam Newbie

... think I've come to grips with the whole Steam fuss now - time to set up my little personal team dedi... no ArmA2OAserver.exe!!

Is this the case? Steam requires a specialised server.exe?? and it hasn't been released as yet???

Sorry for the dumb question from someone who should know better, but this whole Steam thing is a bit new and I confuse easily when I leave my Zone :)

Actually, the dedicated server binaries had been released a while back (7/2/10)... I was just given the wrong information.

ftp://downloads.bistudio.com/arma2.com/update/beta/ARMA2_OA_Build_71900.zip (From http://www.arma2.com/beta-patch.php)

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS:

-----------------------------------------

- ANY ORIGINAL VERSION OF ARMA 2 from 1.03 (including Steam version)

- DirectX 9 March 2009 is required

HOW TO INSTALL AND RUN THE BETA PATCH

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Run the patch exe to apply the patch setup automatically (you may be prompted to choose your exact version in some occasions).

* It will install all beta content to a mod folder "Beta", including the beta exe (that has to be run properly with working directory set to the main game installation, see below for more information)

* To launch Arma2 beta patch you need to go to the main game directory and click on shortcut "Launch Arma2 Beta Patch"

* You can configure your Arma 2 with Beta Patch including other mods etc., just make make sure that:

in your ArmA Shortcut start-up Target line;

- You are running the Arma2.exe from your "beta" folder.

- You have "beta" in your modfolder as in -mod=beta

example: "C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2\beta\arma2.exe" -mod=beta

- Make sure the shortcut's "Start In" section refers to main "Arma 2 " main working folder and NOT "Arma 2/beta"

example: "C:\Program Files\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2"

You can always run your Arma 2 final version in the main Arma 2 folder if you use default application shortcuts, start menu or run the regular arma2.exe without the beta mod folder.

TL;DR

1.) Unzip, and run exe within download.

2.) Installer will place the dedi server exe's @ ...\steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\beta

3.) Create Shortcut to desktop for arma2oaserver.exe

4.) Goto the Shortcut's Properties and change "start in" line from the beta folder

(...\steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\beta)

To the main directory of arma 2 : OA

(...\steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead)

5.) Configure your server as necessary

6.) Run your server

Go to Steam, Library, and check under "Tools". The ArmA 2 Dedicated Server should be in the list there to install.

I should be reading more closely goddammit! Sorry for the dumb question guys! I beg forgiveness based on Steam Confusion... us old guys are sceptical of changes in our cages...

@Caddrel...

Cheers mate! Never noticed that menu option... the server.exe isn't actually listed there, but at least I know where it was supposed to be now!

Sorted manually so alls well, etc.....
