pwnstar23 10 Posted June 8, 2010 (edited) Whenever i try to play online it breaks my internet so i can't even surf the net or get anything online. Sometimes it happends right when I click on the multiplayer button sometimes it happends after I play for a while. My phone also goes through the same modem as my internet and even my phone doesn't get a dial tone. After a while 10-30 mins my internet reconnects by itself and the cycle repeats. I've tried with and without betas. I'm redownloading/installing arma 2 now from steam, anyone hear of this kinda thing happening? Seems pretty strange issue, I can play online with other games no problem at all. I have good internet speeds 15mb/2mb . volkov956 0 Posted June 8, 2010 aye mine also can literllay congest my net I had to get rid of my router and run through direct my DHCP/DNS Server I have here which has fixed most of those issues
Defunkt 429 Posted June 8, 2010 Yeah I have this at the moment, in part I'm sure because my router has gone a bit flakey in general and has been disconnecting of its own accord progressively more and more often but ArmA is guaranteed to make it happen. I too have been running a UTP cable directly to my cable modem when I want to ArmA.
=wfl= sgt bilko 10 Posted June 8, 2010 It might be the DOS prevention system in your router that kicks in. It reacts on "flooding" from same IP. Seen this in other games too. There's usually a setting in you roiuter so that you can disable it (for intance disable temporarily while you play ArmA2 online).
Leon86 13 Posted June 8, 2010 Most modem-routers isp's supply arent that good, the modem part is fine but the router part cant handle many connections at the same time. This is most noticable when using something like bittorrent. If you want to make sure the problem is the router download utorrent (don't worry you can download legal torrents as well :P) and look in the options to see maximum allowed connections. Put it on 1000 and look how fast your internet gets unbearably slow. A quick way to fix this is to reset te modem (just pull the plug and put it back in agian). If you have only 1 pc in the house you may be able to disable the router part and connect the pc directly to the internet. This is called bridge mode, look for instructions how to do this for your modem. If you'd like to keep a router in the system (also a bit more secure) you could look at dedicated routers. I see a lot of good reviews of the TP-Link TL-WR1043ND. It's pretty cheap (50 eu) and a very good router. For this to work you also need to put your modem in bridge-mode, only now the TP-link will get the direct internet connection and it will act as the router. pwnstar23 10 Posted June 9, 2010 after reinstalling arma 2 its still doing crashing my internt/phone. I have my tried with my pc connected to a router then the modem, and directly to the modem both make it crash. I have the dlink gaming router Does anyone know if setting it up to forward a port or something could fix this problem, maybe something else?
Przemek_kondor 10 Posted June 9, 2010 I also thought it was preventing DOS on my router but I disabled it and the problem is still there (but maybe my modem has such function). There is bug ticket for this on dev-heaven (I'm happy it's not only my problem): http://dev-heaven.net/issues/10461
