Recent Updates

The 16AA is growing and evolving, as we speak. Leadership (HQ) changes and LOTS of new faces and LOTS of old faces. We’ve had an influx of new recruits, and we’ve had an influx of former 16AA members, and Reservists re-join active service.

1 Flight to field helicopters with 2 man crews, as a minimum and additionally are heading up the Mortar-support section.

The infantry sections have been busy also, gaining recruits and both sections, in 1 Platoon, are now up to full strength and in fact have a couple of supernumerary positions as well. With the extra boots on the ground, training and missions are seeing a full 2 sections being fielded.

And with all the new recruits, the training of 1 Platoon has taken a whole new meaning, and under the direction of Pte Timmis and the Training Wing, recruits and Pte’s are undergoing a complete series of training scenario’s and exercises. Of course the NCO’s are also being put through their paces during training.

Due to the surge in capability, our HQ has also been expanded. Former Platoon Sgt Hutson, has been promoted to Captain, and is now the Commanding Officer of A Company. 2LT Hewitt continues in his role as OC, 1 Platoon, A Company, reporting to CPT Hutson.

As mentioned previously, with the implementation of Arma 2 Combined Operations, our RLC staff have been busy building missions and updating the 16AA mission pack. Also a new gaming server and TS server have been brought on line to support all the activities of the 16AA.

Our Addon-Sync repository has also been brought online, making it easier for everyone to keep up to date with the server version of our mods (for more details see our website).

The 16AA is always recruiting and encourages potential members to join us on our Team Speak server and have a chat with the guys.

Introduction:

Another quick update, each week we're running two company wide sessions (on Wednesday and Sunday evenings, starting at 1900Z (GMT)) - I've included a bit of information about that below... in addition to that, we also have a few vacancies open at the moment.

Wednesday Training :

The first of the sessions is a training day where we pick out one area and, with the real life experience of a number of our members, train up in certain areas (more on that below).

Over the last few weeks we've been concentrating on training up section attacks (for the infantry lads) and then having a few training games using the BAF BFAs (Blank Fire Attachments) as training sessions against each other in "PVP vs Exercises". We have, in the past, gone through comms, navigation, FIBUA (Fighting in Built Up Areas) and a load of other training items.

The next part we're looking at is FIBUA in more depth in sections, assaulting locations, movement and securing buildings.

1 Flight also do training throughout the week, with a set aside session on Monday evenings as a group.

Sunday Operations and Exercises :

The Sunday session is normally an operation or exercise, whereby we deploy at one of our pre-made camps on a range of maps then insert into an area with the use of 1 Flight.

The missions are very varied, but built for realistic game play, both with the number of enemy units and also the taskings. Below is an example of the OPORD that is issued before a mission - the orders are then cascaded through the sections for individual orders.

Example OPORD :

Summary :

This was our opening mission of a small Campaign we've embarked on in Takistan entitled "Outreach".

The below follows the format for each of our Sunday Operations.

It starts with a WARNO (Warning Order) to alert everyone that something will be happening.

Followed by any intelligence or further information we have for it.

Lastly, a full OPORD (Operation Order) issued to the Platoon, which is then discemenated and follow-up OPORDs are issued by the Section Commanders to their Sections detailing their taskings.

After the Op, the AARs (After Action Reports) are written up.

The WARNO:

The Intel/Additional Information

Gentlemen,

Our efforts here in Takistan have not gone unnoticed by the local populace. Only by securing the hearts and minds of the people of Takistan will we be able to drive out the extremists and accomplish our mission. As you have seen all too often, our enemy is adept at using the terrain to their advantage, many of them having fought in these same hills their entire lives. We also see how they are prone to engage briefly, and then ditch their weapons and quickly assimilate back into the local population. A complaint that we receive time and time again from local Takistanis is that we “only kick the beehive, then leave†- that we only serve to anger the extremists, who take out their anger on the locals after we have retreated to Oscar. A recent flood of reliable intelligence has provided us with an opportunity to expand our footprint in the region, in hopes of cutting off the intricate web of supply, weapon, and personnel movement for our enemy.

You should all be familiar by now with the city of Feruz Abad, the most populous city in the region, and its surrounding area. It was your AO last week during Operation:Oberon which took you to the southwestern outskirts of the city. About 30 days ago, the Takiban Extremists moved a permanent presence into Feruz Abad. Masked death squads have since terrorized the streets, imposing their thousand year old ideology at gun and knifepoint. Until now, they have mainly kept to their known strongholds down the western valley in Shukurkulay and Chaman, staging attacks and stockpiling arms and supplies where they thought they would be out of reach of the new problem in the region – us. But highly successful Predator Drone strikes, as well as some daring Special Forces sabotage missions by the Americans seem to have shaken the enemy from its roost.

Twelve days ago, the extremists flexed their new muscle in Feruz Abad, breaching the walls of the UN Consulate Office with explosives, killing the lightly armed and unaware security detail along with five other staffers. Several UN officials were not present at the Consulate, but were instead meeting with local government officials from the province at the Governor's Compound, which was attacked with a barrage of rocket propelled grenades and stormed by 20-30 militants. The Governor and his family were able to flee to safety, but the extremists have claimed to have taken one UN Official (Jon Hodges, of the United States) and two local officials (names unknown as of yet) captive. The bodies of the others in attendance at the meeting were found in a shallow grave just outside of the city.

So as it stands now, both Feruz Abad and the long abandoned copper mine to its north east are heavily defended by an enemy who holds the entire population in its grip. The local government was hamstrung at its best, but is now completely defunct. The enemy's unchecked presence there has widened their flow of arms and men, and now poses a more direct threat to our mission. It is time that we jump into the Real Estate game ourselves.

As you made your push northward last Sunday during Operation:Oberon, B-Company met light resistance as they made their way into the village of Sahke from the south. Upon arrival, they were greeted by war-weary village elders, and quickly swept and secured the village. BCompany assigned their second platoon to fortify a Platoon House in the town, and have maintained their presence there since Sunday. They have been on high alert since their arrival, and take fire from the outskirts of town several times a day. Any attempts to push out towards Feruz Abad, however, have been met with fierce resistance, leading us to believe that the enemy has eyes in or around Sahke. Most of the locals from Sahke have returned to their homes, and the village is, at least for now, functional.

We plan to use the small foothold we have carved at Sahke as a launchpad to retake Feruz Abad, all of its surrounding area, and restore it to the people, giving them a reason to police it themselves eventually, effectively suppressing the extremists – accomplishing our mission.

Specific Intel

The Takiban spotter that was injured and captured during Operation Oberon has decided that answering our questions was, well, in his best interests.

He has confirmed the presence of a highly skilled Takiban sniper in the region, who goes by the name of WAHID, or “Oneâ€, allegedly the number of rounds he spends on each infidel. WAHID shot and killed two soldiers from Acompany, at two different locations, on our last Operation, and nearly did the same to CPL.Riordan in Acoy, knocking him out with a shot through the side of the neck at a third location. WAHID has been the first contact for most of 2nd Platoon's patrols out of Sahke, pinning them down in the awkward landscape while Takiban units try to flank or ambush retreat routes. Finding and stopping WAHID will be a priority.

Our prisoner has also confirmed the presence, but not the location, of the MANPAAD (man portable anti-air defense) thought to have shot down a 1FLIGHT helicopter during Op Oberon. Our air superiority is essential for our mission to succeed in the region. This, and all, anti-air weapons must be located and destroyed as soon as possible to open up 1FLIGHT's playbook again.

Finally, we have confirmation that a top Takiban militant leader, Amjad Abdul-Aliyy, is in the region of Feruz Abad, organizing the attacks out of the city, the copper mine, and the valleys. This man has the blood of thousands of innocent civilians, and far too many coalition troops, on his hands. They call him “The Bearded Dragon†- its time we bring him back for the LT's collection. He is a logistical genius, so eliminating him could drastically turn the tide of the battle.

With Feruz Abad secure, and its people confident, we can hand it over to the Takistani Army to police and protect the rebuilding of the government and the province. We will be Clearing & Holding areas outside of our Camp's wire for the first time since our deployment to the Takistan theater. Our tactics will switch from offensive to defensive, and surely some freakish combinations of the two. Trust in your training, your orders, and the men on your left and right – get the job done.

Hello All,

I am the Commander of 1 Flight the Airwing unit in our clan; the 16AA and am also a real life helicopter pilot.

This is me:

Saint-avatar.jpg

The reason why I mention this is to illustrate the kind of experience you're in for should you join the 16AA as a potential helicopter pilot.

We have proper training around specific roles and pilots are required to earn their Half Wings, Full Wings and other speciality roles as well. This is emulated on real life and training is very similar although dumbed down for the game.

We are in the process of recruiting helicopter pilots and only have vacancies for another 3 or 4 at this time!

We are a MILSIM unit and as such endeavour to make the game as realistic as possible but at the same time having fun.

We're a mature group with an average age of between 27 and 39 but do have some older and younger members as well.

I believe as helicopter pilot you may very well enjoy the 16AA since many of our other members have experienced the thrill of flying helicopters emulating on real life operations.

We have a healthy mix of members from USA, Canada, England and many European states right down to me in South Africa.

First and foremost we are a great bunch of friends, with members making an effort to visit each other when travelling abroad and some have even sent pc hardware parts to others to "help them out", as well a T shirts for the clan.

There's nothing more I can add to that right now so if you're looking for a flyboy's job, this is the place to be!

Please feel free to check us out and perhaps meet us for a chat in TS if you like to discuss your future as a helicopter pilot in the 16AA.

All the best.
