This really gets to me?!

Recommended Posts

Hi, all!

This is the story:

I´m a 35 year old father of 2 kids. On my "sparetime" i like to play MP games.

I want to like arma2 soo much, but maybe it is not the game for me.

Right now i am playing bfbc2 online, it is a really fun game. But sometimes

i want something more of a sim. But in the MP this game got loads of servers,

and only one good bezerk(wich is what i prefer)server and its the DAO server.

I don´t enjoy coop or cti. Is this game for me I ask you then?

What do you think? What do most people play, anyway?

I really want to like it, and i really want the expansion comming up...

But i dont have the time to dig in to deep gameplays, so what do you say?

Do you have to have much time to play this badass?

this is one of the few games where I actually enjoy playing the single player aspect of the game,

other than playing some Single player missions, I look for a good coop mission...is it worth it..if you find it fun, then its worth it imo

Yes, the SP side of this game is pretty damn different to other games. In fact, I mainly play this game in SP now, as the MP has wielded too many disappointments for me. Not because of the game itself, but because of the server admins and/or players.

If you're willing to give the SP a chance then you might find this is exactly the game for you. If not, and you don't want to be playing coop/CTI, then... Well, I would say it isn't for you, but you really can't tell unless you try it. There are some non-competitive PvP groups out there like Charlie Foxtrot and ArmA Theatre of War, and there are also competitive ones like the ArmA PvP League. But to tell you the truth, PvP is no where near as popular as coop is in Arma 2 amongst the masses. Which is indeed a shame, but that's how it is with BIS' games.

Well, we have public PvP matches with 15-20 people (weekends more) every day. There are also multiple weekly PvP AAS nights on different days in Europe (BCA, armed-assault.de, etc.). :-) Arma2.ru has a dedicated AAS server 24/7 which is also populated every day. Just have a look here: http://forums.advanceandsecure.com/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=15

Is this really so hard to find, and if yes, why ?

So "Advance and Secure" is really made for you! You can read about it here in the BI-Forums as well. First you should download the "AAS-Advance and Secure Addon Package V1.1" to ensure that you´re compatible with all AAS-Servers out there. Just type "AAS" into your ArmA2-Server-Browser for a complete list if AAS-Servers or click here for server details.

guys, sparetime wasn't a bell ringer for you?

monz-reality,

If you want to play ArmA2 multiplayer in your sparetime, i'm sorry, but the game isn't for you CURRENTLY. Many people on here are letting BIS know that there is something wrong with the multiplayer/mod system in arma2. Multiplayer numbers are at an all time low due to the incredible complexity and poor tools available to organize mutltiplayer games in ArmA2. I own the game and I have spent a lot of time learning the ins and outs of developing missions and game modes in arma2. But i've discovered a big problem, the complexity of addon compatibility and poor system to organize team work oriented pvp and coops, has made ArmA2 multiplayer broken.

I suggest you keep ArmA2, and become one of the many who are voicing this opinion. Even if you do find time to join a clan/tournament/group, you will eventually not have the time for it as all lives are chaotic and changing, so its good to voice this now before the possibility of not being able to join a clan group arises.

Strange - I am playing this in my spare time. I must do something wrong. Maybe its the one-click AAS installer with no need to chase mod updates on a daily basis? Or the server I play on that does not rely on pre-arranged matches so I can just hop on after work? Wondering...

Indeed, horse, water, drink etc. Take no notice of tacticalnuggets here, he strikes me as the type to conclude that all of life's inconveniences are the result of somebody else not doing enough for him.

I'm not going to argue with your flaming. If you want to get a long and detailed negative response out of me, your not going to get it. Nor will I tolerate anymore off-topic flaming if you continue (i will attempt to get a moderator).

Some people have time to hunt down mods in general (i'm not just talking about AAS, one of the best PVP packs available), but as far as I can tell, this person really doesn't have that kind of time. I'm just trying to help the community by voicing my opinion to BIS, and asking others to as well. There is no harm in that. As for the amount of players on mp, there really isn't that many, as I check almost everyday and the numbers are horrible (if there is any pvp servers going at the current time).

So, given the OP hasn't told us where he lives thus limiting how specific an answer can be given, what is it exactly about qwertz's link that doesn't fulfil the OP's needs in full? One click install, P-v-P every evening, all boxes ticked. If he doesn't have time to make good use of that then perhaps this game isn't for him but does every game have to be dumbed down to the point where it will take no time or effort at all on the part of the participants? Don't we have more than enough games that have been simplified to that degree already?

Well, I think what he ment by sparetime was anytime he had free time, which many people dont have free time everynight. If it works out well for him then my conclusion was invalid. Otherwise, he should hop on the bandwagon to let BIS know that multiplayer needs to be better functioning. I dont agree with the overall game being simplified, I just think the multiplayer functionality needs to be simplified and built upon(adding built in chats and such before you get on a server). If you can find a negative reason for that then we will be disagreeing forever. My objective is to dramaticaly boost the number of people that play multiplayer on ArmA2. PvP is the most effected due to it being completely human player based. Thank you for not continuing to flame me.

I can only, like others here, recommend digging more for "Hold" servers running AAS mode. Unfortunately the number of AAS servers dwindled over the course of the months, shame as the mode as more potential, imho, than Berzerk as played currently

I have a demanding job next to being a father and it would have never occurred to me to waste my time on public servers with all that kiddy shit going on there. You just need 1 or 2 friends playing Arma; then you host a game on your own PC and off you go. Many hours of fun guaranteed.

And yeah, you can't have 8 hours of sleep each day :) That you signed when you got a job + family + Arma II. So nighttime is playtime.

1) Have fun playing PvP (hint: thats the topic) with 1 or 2 friends.

2) Why are you choosing to play on servers with kiddy shit going on. Choose one without kiddy shit.

3) Have you ever played on a well administered PvP server ?

The PvP numbers are also suffering from interference from the real world also.

Arma 2 is a 30+ and up crowd game so you have a problem with having enough people being available to play a decent round.

Most of us are doing other things like working, paying rent, morgages, shoes for the kids...tec. Throw in time-zones and things, distances to the server [pings] and it's

tricky.

Edit: Also. Arma 2 allows you to vote for an admin so you can at lease kick any doofuses causing trouble.

Armacalypse has at least 15-20 minimum virtually every night and Qwertz is there to admin things.

I haven't seen anybody have to be booted in all the time I've played there.
