Campaign ideas...

Recommended Posts

I would like to make a campaign but I cannot come up with a solid enough line of events. Post a scenario and if you want, the island for it to be on.

Oh yes, i have that all the time. I get the greatest idea for a campaign EVER, and then my mind goes blank after the third mission;) Its annoying. Lets start a support group:rolleyes: This is why i only have released single missions for now:rolleyes:

Unfortunately i dont have anything for you, other than you can get inspiration for a campaign by watching shows like "The Unit", "Generation Kill", "Over there" etc..

How i get my ideas: I get some ideas for single missions from shows and movies like these, then i modify the story to fit Chernarus, and to the desired faction, then i change some more when i make the missions. And voila, i have a good mission, which doesnt resemble the original idea at all:p

A small campaign based loosely on the movie from the 80's that I think was called "Navy Seals" would be awesome. The movie starred Charlie Sheen and wasn't perfect but the military part would make for some good missions imo.

Hm, maybe a storyline like in "Tears Of The Sun"? Navy SEALs deep in enemy territory, outnumbered and running from the enemy. That would be a good start, i guess.

Please make it from a grunts perspective, there are just two many missions/campagins set from a Spec ops point of veiw!

I was thinking of making a combo with some grunts on the frontlines and some spec ops behind enemy lines.

I'm trying to do some missions myself, but I'm looking more in books and stuff to make historical events,by normal soldiers, of the new kinds of war (Iraq, Afghanistan, Falklands, etc.), and add things that make the battle more intense that it already was. Im making some scripts to call in other things that I havent seen on the game and which I thought it would be cool based on call of duty kill streaks, (don't get me wrong, Im not trying to make run and gun missions), like calling a Spec Ops fire team that will come across a given place and start searching and destroying everything on their way, their skill levels will be adjusted a to a higher level of most of the troops on you side. This is one of the ideas I have and am trying currently trying to develop.

I like that idea, are you thinking on historical events or fiction?

Have any of you made any mission with a storyline?

I am going to try and make some kind of fictional campaign maybe with some USMC US Army joint ops missions.

How about something based mostly off of air combat? There's a ton of SF mission and "shot down behind enemy lines stuff". But never a lot of real, dogfighting awesomeness. Top gun style. I can picture the cutscenes now XD.

yeah Air combat would be cool, but no map so far (even the offical ones) are big enough. It takes less then 3 mins to cross Chenrus in a jet. so making a campagin based on it would be awesome just hard to do.

Personally I think that a well-made campaign based off of the movie "Behind Enemy Lines" would be really cool. Wouldn't be made quickly, but it would sure be worth it!

Yeah, it would be nice. I think it would be good if there where infantry, armor and everything else, and your mission consisted on you beign the air support, from CAS to escort and all other duties whatever aircraft you decide to use for the mission.

The new expansion, Arrow Head, has a map of 170 km x 170 km, that's bigger than where I live! It should be big enough for a good areial jet based campaign. For now I think that a helicopter based campaign could be done in Chernarus due to size of the map and speed of the choppers.

I would fly around the island a bit.

Usually i find a location and go "Well, a mission like that would be awesome on this location".

Then i start and other ideas pop into my mind which i try to integrate within the mission and soon enough it's outgrown me and i'm losing control and the big picture :p

I just place onMapSingleClick "player setPos _pos"; this allowDamage false; in a player squad leader's init line. That way you can actually walk around the map while still having infinitely high travel speed (teleport by clicking the map) to find a place that you actually like and want to make a mission in. Of course when it comes to an actual campaign it gets more complicated.

Well, i started several campaign attemps (3 by now) but i didn't finish one of them.

The first one was supposed to be a MP campaign for me and my friends to play. But due to my lack of knowlegde at this point i canceled after a few missions.

The second one was planned as SP only. You play as part of a special forces team during an invasion of Chernarus. Slowly, you discover the real, top-secret reason of the US Invasion in Chernarus. During the campaign you influence the story at certain events. E.g. killing a "bad guy" or arrest him. Or secure a briefcase instead of destroying it and so on. The campaign has more than 4 different endings and various missions you might get or don't - depending on your behaviour in previous missions. To complete the campaign i only have to create 4 ending cutscenes but i just don't have time or i'm not in the mood.

My third project was supposed to be much shorter and takes place in a post-apocalyptic warplace where you find yourself at a chopper crash site without any memory of who you are or how you got there. But you are obviously american. A hunter found you and took you to a camp of survivors where you build up a team and help the survivors. Later, you run into your former superiour officer and can gather back some information about your past. That's where the real storyline starts. I already got some pretty cool missions with 1st person custscenes, very nice atmosphere and BIS' conversation system. My favourite mission is a call-of-duty-style sniper mission where you follow your captain and take out enemies with his assist. The mission's basically scripted but it's fun every time again!

One last tip though: Keep it short! I made the mistake to create a too huge storyline and i had to make so many missions that it wasn't fun anymore and i dropped the project. The third campaign is supposed to have maximal 7 missions; my first one had more then 20 and the second campaign has about 15 with custscenes. Have fun!

@IndeedPete, there was actually a post-apocalyptic mod that just came out, would work for your idea.

well, i think i am going to start my first mission today. will make a small sniper mission in Utes just to start. It will include the ACE mod to add realism to it. It will be at night and you will have to wait for a certain person to appear to take him out, then escape and if you escape without being traced you win. The thing is that I know how to handle the order of the events. Like, first you have to go here, then wait, then this thing will appear and last if you do this you win if not you lose. Get what I am saying?

Good point, but it would still definitely be do-able! I'm surprised it's never really been done, given the large amount of air-power supplied with vanilla arma.

@ryguy: Yes, i know but i'd have to change the whole campaign script and i'd have to rework all missions i've already made. ;)

Does anyone still remember the movie "Clear and Present Danger" (German title: das Kartell) with Harrison Ford? It is based on the book with same title from Tom Clancy (German title: Der Schattenkrieg). In this movie, a special forces unit is operating in the jungle of Columbia with the task to destroy the infrastructure of drug syndicate. Look this movie (or better read the book; more details) and you have a very good story for a campaigne.

These type missions don't work well with ARMA2 - Inside buildings, CQC, that is more of the R6/RS days....(though hopefully GRound BRanch willl come out next year and be the first true , tactical FPS to replace R6/RS)...

I think ARMA is better suited for outside (obviously) long range engagements. Or small unit sniper / Recon type operations (from an Infantry perspective).

I'm starting to think ARMA doesn't do anything "great" enough. As a tactical CQC shooter if falls way short......and on the other side, for a larger scale operations involving Mech as well as Infantry sims such as CMSF do a much better and realistic job.... (what AMRA does allow for is modding...which is much better than anyone else).

I would like to see a campaign about peacekeepers or maybe casual casual grunts (maybe something like Generation Kill?). Most interesting would be a campaign based on Afghanistan. Nothing like SpecOp Elite Troop stealth stuff, but more like patrols, defending, reconing and stuff. It would be cool 8D I actually tried to create one, but I couldn't finish because the lack of my skills 8)
