SIX Projects - Updater Suite, Portal, Config Browser, etc.

Recommended Posts

Hi there. Really like the new six updater. Great improvements.

Just one question... is there a webinterface already? For remote use? Like the -bind parameter on ruby ? Cant find anything about it in the docu.

Thanks in advance.

Keep up the good work!

Currently, for remote management it is recommended to either run Six Updater 2 over remote desktop (or alternative).

Or to run the old Six Updater over web-interface.

Once Six Updater 2 is getting feature complete (~2.3), I will look into either revamping the web-interface or perhaps making it available from within Six Updater 2 (Silverlight perhaps).

Currently im working hard on getting zSync support ready for 2.1.

zSync is like rSync but runs over http - which simplifies hosting official or custom/private mod repositories, and opens the way for communities/clans/servers to setup their own, with the mods and versions to their choosing.

I'm also adding options to define servers and apps (ts3 etc), which mods are required, which are optional, and which are available on the custom repository.

http://dev-heaven.net/issues/17006

Additionally im planning to expand on that with missions support, as well as setup an official six updater missions repository.

Zsync support is nearly finished, including missions support.

So users will be able to download missions to their choosing, and/or download missions for a specific server.

Application support like TeamSpeak etc will be implemented next days.

I've got two reports of Six Updater still crashing for users, but with a total lack of details I cannot solve the issue - is anyone else experiencing crashes?

If so please provide the log files asap so I can attend to it.

Crash reports were solved by installing the latest available setup (2.0 final).

Zsync support has gone into testing and results are looking good, some more love ('n docu) next days and it will be ready for public usage.

Custom application support is coming along nicely as well; Teamspeak3 and Mumble are currently supported.

If a server has a configuration url set (for zSync and apps), and either teamspeak or mumble is configured, the updater can launch the apps on startgame/join arma server actions (or manually), and join the correct teamspeak/mumble server for this clan/community/server.

If there are any other apps people feel should be supported, please let me know.

Hi.

There is something wrong with my Six-updater. Gui version gives me this error:

NoMethodError: undefined method `new' for nil:NilClass

My six-updater-gui.log

http://www.sendspace.com/file/p7s7ab

There was no problems with old versions.

Thanks for the report + details. The issue is solved in App update 28. Please restart the app and all should be well.

Cheers, i'll fix the warning, 1.08 == 1.8 in this case :D

If you have CO, why not pick the CO profile btw? :)

I've solved the warning as of App update 31; http://dev-heaven.net/issues/17454

You don't need to download 2.1dev if you had installed 2.0 stable before, and have been able to successfully auto-self-update.

I'm happy to announce the first community custom zSync repository was sucessfully setup yesterday - they run specific mod versions, sometimes up2date with latest on Six Updater, sometimes somewhat behind.

Now with zSync support they're able to achieve this all from within Six Updater.

The zSync mirror manager has improved a lot the past days, and it now not only supports manually uploading or uploading over rSync, but also supports uploading by FTP!

Setup details available at; http://six.dev-heaven.net/wagn/Six_Updater+zSync_Setup

Next days more simplifications, usability improvements and GUI features will be worked on.

What's the deal with zSync and rSync? What's so special about it?

See Rsync and Zsync homepages.

The biggest reason to use rSync and zSync is:

Upon updating files, you only ever download changed blocks! Where-as casual file transfer applications require you to completely download the updated file, even for the smallest (1 byte) change.

It's a huge bandwidth and time saver for both; Downloading User, as well as the Hoster.

What's the difference between zSync and rSync?

The major difference is that rSync requires a specific server setup with the rSync daemon.

zSync only requires a simple http/https web-server.

With zSync, anyone is now able to setup a repository with mods, missions and other nice-ness, versions/editions to their choosing.

Lot's of the zSync stuff has been streamlined past days.

http://six.dev-heaven.net/wagn/Six_Updater+zSync_Setup

Users now don't even need your config_url if your server has the config_url set in the server-name ;-)

The first 3rd party custom zSync repository was setup by Nice-Team.eu; http://updater.dev-heaven.net/queryservers/show/58871

They run mostly mods off their custom zSync repository - updating them when it suits them.

Second 3rd party repository was setup yesterday with succes!

They run most mods off the Six Updater network, and have some specific / custom mods on their own zSync repo.

http://updater.dev-heaven.net/queryservers/show/15779

http://updater.dev-heaven.net/queryservers/show/54196

Third 3rd party custom zSync repository also setup with success - my home community - 6thsense.eu.

Only runs mods form the updater network currently.

http://updater.dev-heaven.net/queryservers/show/76057

And lastly, ACE's nightly-build test server; http://updater.dev-heaven.net/queryservers/show/72244

Only runs the ACE Mods, from custom zSync repository containing nightly build dev-updates.

Forgive me for asking, but doesn't the following apply for this thread?

As soon as content is released even if Alpha state, the thread should then be moved to A&M:Complete (PM a moderator with the link).

Keep up the good work.

Thanks Abs ;-)

Personally I feel the thread's a bit of a grey area, because it's not a Mod..

I wouldn't mind a better location if a Moderator feels it is better suited elsewhere :P

First "Community" feature has been added, currently existing out of a list of the most prominent community sites (news, wikis, hosting etc), to visit by click.

http://i1111.photobucket.com/albums/h468/sickboy6th/Six%20Updater%202/Six%20Updater%2021/six-updaterfirst-community-features.png

If any sites are missing - let me know!

An often overlooked feature is the 'Info' button on each record, in several of the datagrids.

E.g the info button on the server datagrid will bring you to the server's website - if it was set in zSync configuration - or found in the server's name.

E.g the info button on the mods datagrid will bring you to the six updater server portal, where additional information about the mod can be found like readme, changelog, or even download the bikeys.

The official Six Updater rSync mirror network has been expanded by another mirror by a kind donator from AlphaSquad.net; Robalo AS.

Enjoy!

The first official zSync mirror is up. It is an extension to the existing Six Updater rSync network.

It is especially useful for users who's firewall/antivirus/router type or configuration doesn't allow rSync to function properly.

zSync (running over http) has a much greater chance of success in those situations.

Currently, to use it, one has to disable all rSync mirrors, and only leave the http zSync mirror enabled.

However this will be properly handled soon - transparant to the user.
